So, I have a '21 Heckler MX and have grown accustomed to the normal EP8 rattle but noticed another noise, kind of like an intermittent clunk that I was having trouble figuring out. I thought it was a cable or something, made sure they were not lose inside the frame with some tape, still have the noise.
Took out the battery, started poking around and saw that where the battery connects to the mount (SHIMANO STEPS Integrated Down Tube Battery Mount With Key Unit Mount | SHIMANO BIKE-EU), the screws were loose so I tightened them up. Unfortunately, this didn't stop the noise.
Took off the motor/DT protector and noticed in the empty cavity under the battery mount, that one of the plugs was sitting just off the inside of the frame and when I touched the wire for it, it made the clunking noise I had been hearing. Grabbed some packing foam I had laying around and wedged a piece between the plug and the frame. No more noise (other than the EP8 rattle lol)!!
The plug sits right here:
