Replaced top cage bearing as a few ball bearings were cracked. Removed the brake callipers so I could take forks out and clean properly.

Cleaned everything and made sure top and lower cage bearings were all greased properly.

Now I’m getting a judder then braking. I can see the lower forks vibrating.

Tightening or loosening the headset makes no difference.

I tried realigning the callipers and also fitted new brake pads.

The only thing I can think of is the new top cage bearing looks a slightly different profile to the old one. Not sure that would make a difference. I’ll try another replacement which looks more similar and see.

Also the top cap does not appear to be perfectly central. Maybe there is something slightly odd about the new cage bearing. Hopefully I’ll solve the problem eventually.

Yorkshire Bike Mechanic working on Cube headset bearings explains about bearing sizes and their different chamfer angles etc.. Not saying this is your problem but it may point you in the right direction?

Hope you get it sorted soon.
