Forbidden Druid - Avinox Powered

No it isn’t.
Has anyone figured out how to reduce the drag in these idlers? My V1 Dreadnought had very little drag. The CorE has a ton of drag when torqued properly. I have mainly ignored due to the fact the motor deals with it. But would be nice to reduce if possible.

We have done it.. have to remove bearing, dremel the bearing seat because its too tight and reinsert bearing

Interesting, I checked the one on the loaner I have had for a while & can confirm it’s really stiff also. I could compared it to the one on my Sight when the bearing was absolutely f*cked. It doesn’t look like the greatest of designs, definitely not as good as the Norco in its implementation.

For those running a coil:

What spring rate, sag , rider weight are you finding best? Obviously shock dependent to some extent. Looks like the vorsprung has me at 550lb, 31%, 86kg rider weight

I run SDU with 490lb springdex, 63kg rider weight, around 20-25% sag on the druid core. I prefer the firmer setup for big hits and jumps, and the HP with the sensitivity of a coil makes it feel super plush and HBO turned to the lowest setting makes it feel bottomless on big hits. I think 475-480lb is my sweatspot.

625 spring rate on Vivid coil. 94kg rider.

I’m on a 575lb spring on an EXT Storia and weigh around 87Kg. This gives me around 33% sag and so far feels good. I need to get the shock re-tuned as it came from a different bike though.

I did have a email exchange with Forbidden tech support for advice, which was interesting. They were basically saying they design the bike around a softer setup (32-35% sag) with faster rebound And tune compression based on your riding style.

Did they explicitly suggest that was for coil (not air)? Can someone tell me what riding style and trails are good for 35% sag on a coil?

No wonder ppl complain this bike has a "low BB" or that pedal strikes would be an issue with 165mm cranks. You want to be riding in the first 2/3rds of the suspension most of the time, at 35% sag you've already starting at the midstroke just being on the bike, seems like no room to enjoy best part of a coil shock.

Did you ride with the stock Vivid at all?

What Storia you got, V4?

At least on the air shock 32-35% felt under sprung to me.

87kg is close to me. Good to hear that I am in the right range!

I was only talking to them about the coil at the time so they didn’t explicitly say that recommendation was only for coil. I do find the EXT is far more supportive and therefore I’ve been happy with over 30% and no pedal strikes.

Our general tuning advice is more sag vs less, we recommend 32-35% for the E-Druid, so that's even a fair bit softer than your 30% goal.

Generally speaking, more sag, faster rebounds, and open-ish LSC are what we find play best with our platform. You can help control pedal strike with a faster rebound and increased HSC to help keep the suspension more active and taller in the beginning stroke. With the leverage curve (progressive with a rising leverage rate) being as it is, running a stiffer spring for more sag doesn't help with real-world sag as much as it might on other platforms. The initial stroke is relatively soft on purpose, which means that increasing the spring rate will only raise the rolling sag by a mm or two at best, as you still hit the "sag sweetspot" at about the same shock stroke.

Good to know, I was gonna aim for thr same sag but may try going back closer to what they recommend on it as it'll have more midstroke support

When I was fitting my EXT I had a 575Lb spring and based on my experience with the Vivid, I assumed I would need a 600-625Lb as looking at the EXT spring calculator I needed to be in that range for 28-29% sag. Talking to my lbs, they suggested trying the lighter spring as the Storia is more supporting in the mid stroke. Glad I listened as the 575Lb gives me the right sag to align with Forbidden's recommendation and it is far more supportive than the Vivid.

I just need to get the shock tuned to suit the bike now.

I'm heading to the South Island (NZ) from Auckland in a couple of weeks and decided to travel with my bike and ship the battery to a friend's place. The other option was to ship the whole bike in a box, but I didn't like the idea of having it potentially sitting around somewhere no where near me....

Motor and battery were really easy to get out. I used my bike stand as a mini-motor hoist to safely get to all the plugs.

Bike: With motor (incl. cranks and pedals) and battery removed and inside an Evoc bike bag, it weighs in at 24.4kg. Air NZ limit is 23kg, but they usually let you get away with ~25kg without an extra cost (can have up to 30kg with some extra $$)
Motor etc.: that'll travel in my luggage
Battery: I found a plastic plan carrier tube that is a really good size and made some foam rings / end padding out of old packing foam I kept (benefits of a garage!). This should be cheap to ship via truck/ferry between islands.

Hopefully it all works out!
