Hi All,
I just thought I'd share this photo of my 2018 Focus Jam 2, if anyone's interested in seeing an old bike given a new lease of life!!
For the last couple of months it's been dismantled into what seemed like hundreds of bits whilst I repainted the frame, cleaned, lubed and re greased everything.
I bought this bike brand new in November 2018, and it's now done over 9000 miles.
Over that time there's been many, many parts worn out and replaced, but the motor and battery are still working fine.
It's also been converted from its original 27.5 Plus spec to MX which vastly improved it.
Just a month or so after I bought the bike myself and a mate (who also has a Jam 2) clubbed together and bought the Shimano PC Interface unit so that we could retune the bikes.
Retuning wasn't a simple process back then!!
We both wanted more range and were happy to some effort in.
The tuning is:
Eco 20% Assist / 35Nm Torque - this is enough to negate the weight of the bike, and feels like riding a normal bike on a good day!
Trail 60% Assist / 35Nm Torque - I find this sufficient for most trail riding.
Boost 100% Assist /70Nm Torque - this gets me up the steeper stuff.
When this tune was first performed the range figures were:
Eco 44 miles / Trail 33 miles / Boost 22 miles.

Now after 9000 miles and hundreds of charges the range is:
Eco 39 miles / Trail 29 miles / Boost 19 miles.
Not much drop in the battery really over almost eight years use now.

I'm pretty sure that the 'down speccing' of the power settings has played a major role in extending the life of the bike.

I've ridden it many times at Coed Y Brenin, Afan, Black Mountains etc.
I live on the Isle of Wight and this set up gets me around all the local trails just fine.
But by more modern standards this is a pretty under powered EMTB !!

Yesterday, after rebuilding it I did an 18 mile ride with 1500 ft climbing with 24 miles range remaining, just using the internal 378WH battery.
I've also got a Trailwatts 252Wh Range Extender, so all day rides are a possibility around the island.

I hope that you have many more years of fun with your Jam2. (y)

I had a Jam2, my first emtb. It was the 9.6 NINE, carbon frame, 29er. What a brilliant bike! I loved almost everything about it (I got arse buzz off that big rear wheel, I've had MX's ever since). I bought my Jam2 only a few months after you, in Jan'19.

I also got a great price for it when I sold it during the pandemic. For some reason, an architect from London wanted it as a commuter bike! I told him it had grippy tyres, but he was already sold as soon as he saw it. So I stopped selling and let him do the talking. He even bought the Tec pack without much discussion. :) I could have sold him the 29x2.6 Maxxix Rekons while I was at it, but I didn't want to put him off. :)

It really was a good looking bike.

Hi Steve, Yes I hope I get many more years out of it😀
It’s a great bike and suits my needs very well.

Focus Jam2 for the e-bike days, but my Devinci Troy Carbon on human powered days!
Great to hear you got such a good price for yours 😀
