Forgot the Matt Jones card I guess....good race and coverage thanks to the racers and RedBull TV. Really sends home the grade b coverage and UCI shenanigans that has affected DH since their exit?

ISWYM, large parts of it are very bike parky but it's definitely killed more riders than the Welsh edition.

I cant help thinking it wasnt as "hard" as the Welsh one?
Its entertaining but not on the same level i thought?

Fast as fook though, I think i enjoyed the build up posts more than the event?
The fact that only 1 female rode it tells you how tough it is, they ride WCs week in week out without a problem, but only one completed (or tried on the race) the actual event.
That tells me it's pretty damn tough.

The Wales hardline course is mostly the 'big' features that make it impossible to most humans, the 'track' bits i'd say a larger chunk of MTB riders could ride. But the bigger stuff, not so much.

Is that not because the smaller lighter riders would struggle to keep momentum to clear the massive gaps do you think?

Mmm i don't think so in truth, i think both events are just bloody tough and despite it looking a bit parky, it's still a long long way to hit 70' gaps. I'd say it's as much the not braking into things that'll be reducing their speed as much as it's their weight. Riders like Jackson is only about the same weight as Valli i'd say, so it's more than just pure weight playing a factor.

No one's flipping that course in the race. :ROFLMAO:

Matt Jones did, he came so close to binning it on his race run tho by coming up pretty short, he did so well over the weekend and deserves a pat on the back. He flipped it at least 3 times during the event and really stepped his performance up from last year.
Good on him I reckon for giving the fans a treat and he became a bit of a crowd favorite.
As did Gracie, her whip over the last jump in the final was insane and she really nailed all of the huge features, she did much better than quite a few of the guys.

Two of the female contestants managed to clear the entire course over the practices/qualifying and it was well documented as a real struggle.
Gracey (the eventual winner of the women's section) had a few goes at that last massive creek gap jump. She was approaching at 70kmh and they said she wasn't going fast enough.
Finally at 75kmh they said she'd clear it...and she did.
Erice got across as well, but as has been well documented and discussed is now in hospital with a broken neck, back and wrist and some internal injuries. It's sad watching her trying to take a few steps in hospital...but at least she can still walk!
The rest of the women's field tried and made conscious decisions not to pursue death for entertainment's sake.

Then came Matt Jones with his backflips and Jackson Goldstone with his insane "on the edge" speed.
I really feel for Ronan Dunne, too. He would have been there, or thereabouts in the final, but for that brutal crash into the rock. They are reporting that he came away with no serious injuries, but he hit that rock HARD.

Does anyone know how many of the riders this year had major crashes that put them out of the comp?
I can think of three off the top of my head, but was wondering if there are any stats/info on it.

From PB

Other facts:
• 26% of riders who rode in practice ended the week with a trip to the hospital.
Only 62% of riders who started practice competed in finals. Healing vibes to everyone who finished the week injured.

Watched this last night, if this doesn't get you fired up for the upcoming WC DH season then nothing will.

In my 12 years of watching Downhill I honestly believe that Amaury is the best rider I've ever seen. That wet run in Les Gets was just INSANE!

Although not technically WC racing but Crankworx summer series is on today/tomorrow in my home city for the first time.

BK's preview to the "redemption" DH course. This thing is steep and gnarly. Super dusty conditions that are pretty much year round down here in Christchurch. I already know there will be some huge crashes this weekend

Qualy
1. Lachlan Stevens McNab
2. Tuhoto Ariki Pene
3. Sam Blenkinsop

The RedBull link was really wonky so I watched the Spanish feed on YT that wasn't and more or less synced to it to get Rob's commentary until that flaked out totally then watched it soundless. Was hoping at least the last competitors would give some fight but alas.....still not thinking that I missed out much by not pursuing a career in Urban MTB. I have ridden down, and up, several sets of stairs however and they can be fun.
