• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Derestricting bosch smart system

Vpn is not needed. All is done via Teamviewer. Every update will delete the option to change speed so make the update before you ask start this process. Somebody wrote here that update under US ip address it also works but don't take this risk. That Polish guy have probably holidays, did you send him message ?
Could I ask what the risk would be with using a US ip and vpn.

Also is there any risk or push back with using "Teamviewer"

You give access to your computer to someone ,so the risk is big. Honestly i will not do it if i will have some data in computer. So empty computer is the best and reinstall win again. However I looked what he did and besides instal bosh program and vpn driver was all clear.

Hopefully there is a way to accomplish it without a program that gives full access to the operating system of a personal computer.

Creat a isolated virtual machine in windows 11 hyper-v, install teamveiwer and vpn driver, job done!

Excellent job at lateral thinking! If only it didn't require the Pro version and Windows 11 instead of 10. I have been needing to get a VM going so this will be good motivation to find a free version for Win 10 home.

I'm wondering how did you connect your laptop to the Bosch unit since the latter doesn't have a USB port?

Every bosch bike/motor must have usb for diag or not?
I have only LED remote, no display, so no warnings about speed or limits :)

If you don't have Win 11 or Pro versions of 10 that enable Hyper-V, there are plenty of other Hyper Visor containers out there that are free and allow you to do the same thing on Windows 10 Home. Google Oracle Virtualbox for example.

the warning message disapear itself after a timer ?
Not sure, I was never that patient. It has an OK button and I always press it for it to go away. Just like when the battery goes below 30%, that also gives a warning with OK button.

I think people that want to de restrict are a very small percentage of Boschs market so probably won't affect their sales at all.
probably more than 50% of people who are outside the warranty anyway would like to, but most people don't want to risk limp mode.
I bet theres people who wish they bought shimano after seeing friends unlock their speed with a mobile phone app :/

Hello, folks!
I've just managed to upload the US firmware with the help of "the guy from P"
All went smoothly. Basically he uploaded the firmware of a US-CA-NZ Cube bike into my European Canyon bike.
As a result, the speed limit has changed from 25 km/h to 32 km/h which is awesome and is enough for the most trails.
Will test drive it on a weekend.

Yes, mentioning the man's name is completely unnecessary.

I'm waiting for someone with a lot of posts and an old forum registration date to give their opinion.

Most users who say they have used is services, only have a couple of messages in this specific thread.

Actually, the man openly advertises his service on the P's analogue of Ebay or Craigslist

we have to be more silent about this guy ... discretion ...
hopefully laws change quick enough. I use my bike a lot for just regular riding 15mph cut out is just ridiculous on 20mph urban roads.
On a normal hybrid or gravel bike I can sprint to 25mph easy, holding 20mph and not feeling like a burden is a god send in traffic.
I'm sure to use my bike a lot more once it' gets done.
I used to do tons of 40-50mile leisure rides all the time on my EMTB when I first got it and hopefully I'll do that again whilst saving significant amounts of time.

I mostly ride enduro and 32 km/h is immediately noticeable, the ride is much smoother, it's more natural, a big difference and I'm finally satisfied :)

Of course, you hit the limit early on the road, the engine has power, but for my riding there is no need to go faster

mine should be done later on today.
Interestingly the guy never asked Which Bosch Motor and Gen I have.
Hasn;'t asked which kinda magnet sensor the bike has.
or asked what orientation the motor was in.

I thought I read the motors firmware are kinda "custom" to the bike and the motor knows what angle it's installed at?

ChatGPT backs me up

Bosch Performance Line CX Gen4 (Smart System) drive units have an internal acceleration sensor, so the system is aware of orientation/tilt. However, the motor doesn’t self-learn the frame’s mounting angle. The installation orientation is a setup parameter that a Bosch dealer codes in with the Diagnostic Tool when the bike is built or if the motor is rotated in the frame. If that parameter is wrong, assistance behavior (torque sensing, walk assist / hill-hold feel) can be off.

I hope my bike won't feel weird after, I think I read he put the cube firmware on someones trek back. (mines whyte)
but anyway looking on google images almost all cube bikes seem to have the motor at a level angle.

When the P-guy connects to the bike and launches the Bosch Diagnostic Tool 3 he sees the exact model of the bike and motor. That means there's no chance the Bosch software would've allowed to install the "wrong" firmware.

don't worry, they'll connect it via the official bosch diagnostics and see everything there

mines done :D
He didn't seem to look at any parameters.
It's all in polish, but looked like he deleted the original config almost instantly, then put another on from a different manufacturer, set it to 32km/h and left.
Shows as 19mph in flow app.
The guy thought something was wrong so reconnected, I googled and 32km/h is 19.8mph so the app probably just rounds down.

I can't test it yet but can't wait :)

After a couple proper rides, I found my bike actually cuts out at 30km/h. I think it might be because I have a 28" trekking bike and his file is probably for a 29" MTB, so when I put my proper wheel circumference in the config to show the speed correctly, it only goes 30. I'm still happy with the result though.

Hi, how did it work? do you have the download link for the programs that needs to be installed on your computer to do this?

You need t contact the person who can do it obviously and send them 180euro via bank transfer.
You need a computer or laptop.
you need a usb C cable to connect the bike to the computer (mini led remote has a USB C on the bottom, or the display thing that goes in the top tube screws out and has a USB C on it when you pull it out.
You only need to install
you don't need to register or anything just stay as guest.
and you need to enable vpn in teamviewer
He gains full control of your PC but you can see the mouse moving around, see what he's doing and if you want end the connection, he doesn't do anything he shouldnt by the looks of it.
He does install another thing as well as the bosch, but it's just for remotely sharing a usb stick
The guy does the rest, He doesn't remove the diagnostics tool, but if you change it to English without a bosch dealer ID there's not much you can do.

it does show tons of info about your bike that you otherwise can't see though. like the report a dealer would see.

Since you only have 1 post, it's unlikely anyone will tell you how to contact the guy, but on your own it's possible to find them.
Your bike in the flow app will now say it's another manufacture, unless your bike is from the one he uses..

If you do it you can never update the firmware via a phone or it will go back to EU peon speeds.
that's the only downside, maybe he would update for a lower fee or something if you already have it done anyway I didn't ask.

BTW your warranty likely goes bye bye even if it is a bosch dealer doing it. he's obviously not supposed to do it.
I wouldn't try to claim a warranty on the motor or he likely gets in trouble. cos the bike diagnostic shows the last shop to service the bike. (hes an actual shop)
my plan if I ever have any problems is to get a motor via the bearing man or someone else like that for 700quid or whatever and fit it myself.

My motor is 2 years old anyway so outside of warranty even if it's only done 1400miles.never had any issues the whole time.
I had to take the cranks off the other day to change the chainring, and the bearing seals on the crank/driveshaft whatever you wanna call it, they were barely dirty from the outside so I guess mines good for a long time and no water or dirt has got inside whilst riding. :)

My NZ 32kph limit cuts out around 30.8-31.5kmh so I wouldn't worry about it. Mine is not derestricted either.

all speeds cut out early so it;s never assisting over the limit.
can set to kph ? or stuck with mph ?
it's my localization settings I guess, my country does mph not km/h ;)
I seem to be the only person whos had it done with him that has mph readout, cos as said he thought he set it wrong when I said it shows 19mph

wonder if 1 kph more than 32 is possible with tuning another setting ? wheel diameter ?
I think you need the pedelec motor, there's probably no 45km/h firmware for the CX etc and AFAIK wheel diameter only calibrates the displayed speed to be more accurate, it doesn't make the bike slower or faster.

someone told me speedi work fine without being detected on gen 4 smart system if you really want 45km/h
it's one of those mechanical things that moves the magnet so the bike thinks it's going half speed.
half the price of the US firmware, but IDK how reliable it really is.
I thought they all got detected eventually, but this guy swore by it and said he had it a year.
You need the magnet to be on the rotor though, some are on the wheel

Will it be possible to update the motor, using VPN and FlowApp?

Software
180€
can use flow app normally
update via VPN?
32km/h

Chip/box
250ish €
Can't use flow app nor update
Around 45km/h max, I see riders setting much bellow 40. Arounf 35ish...

It seems nice, and already asked how much will it cost, if by misfortune, the bike goes back to 25km/h limit. Does anyone knows if he request a further 180euros?

I won't update it anymore, there's no reason. One user wrote here that it worked using a VPN.It will definitely cost something, hard to say how much

I would just like to clarify that in my opinion there is no other solution on the market that is 100% error-free. I have been collecting information about all the chips on the market for several months and there are always problems after some time. So for me this is the best choice.

If you want to drive very fast 35+kh/m the risk of limp mode is even greater. 3x limp mode = you have to have it unlocked from the bosch dealer.
