There is only one and perfectly working solution for the avinox motors that protects the chain, the chain ring and the bearings:

You have to buy a special spider that comes with the chain guard.
The ring is made of fiber-reinforced plastic instead of aluminum on purpose.
If you hit a rock with an all aluminum construction the force would go direclty into the bearings and other parts.
The fiber-reinforced plastic ring dampens the peak load significantly.
And if the rings breaks, it has protected the components and has done his job.
The plastic ring is a wear part, is sold separately as a spare part and is cheap.
And the plastic ring has less friction and slides over rocks while aluminum will slow you down, so less chance for going otb.
