Hi

New to the forum so hello all.

I have a PowerFly 5 and looking to upgrade the existing Purion display to a Bosch KIOX. I can see a retrofit kit is available but was wondering if anyone has tried to fit themselves or if it really does require a dealer to install it.

Kiox: the sportily compact on-board computer for eBikes

Any comments and advice would be great.

Thanks in advance

No dealer required but you may need to drop the motor to route the cable.

I swapped out the Intuvia display on my 2017 Powerfly for a Purion and I spent ages trying to route the cable without dropping the motor. Eventually I gave in and dropped the motor and it was a doddle after that.

Thanks for the info. How hard is it to drop the motor? Are specialist tools required for that? I’m happy to pay a dealer to do the work but struggling to find one that is open in my area with everything that is going on hence contemplating doing it myself.

It's easy but does require a few specialist tools; a crank puller and a sprocket nut tool.

I’ve been looking into this also. Will be easy enough on my Rail, just some T40’s to drop the motor, unsure about it on a powerfly, though. What year/gem motor is yours?
As much as I’ve read it’s plug and play.

What are the advantages of fitting the Kiox? I've looked into it but it seems damn expensive and I'm not sure what I'd gain.

Answer nothing.
Its cheaper to get a Garmin head unit, does lots more and you can take it off when you sell the bike.

A bike shop near me at Durham called The E Bike Store look to have loads of Bosch related items on their website. May be worth a quick Google ?

Very good, but it's not in stock. It must be newly released as when I looked a couple of months ago, it was not available to retrofit. Good news though.

Its a 2019 so Gen 3 I believe. I think the 2020 range have the Gen 4 motor. The KIOX retrofit is supported back to Gen 2 apparently

Its a number of things for me:-
  1. Mode display. You only know what mode you are in on the Purion when you goto change it whereas its permanently displayed on the KIOX
  2. Cadence and other information. Very limited on Purion
  3. Bike vs rider effort display looks interesting
  4. Bluetooth connectivity
  5. Small and removeable
  6. USB port
I have a Garmin watch and with the correct sensor could capture cadence as well however I just like the packaging of the KIOX

I've had a good trawl through Google and struggling to find stock anywhere apart from ebay. My nearest Bosch specialist is showing availability but they don't have actually any nor do they know the distributor in the UK will get more. For the sake of £40-£50 I think I am going to get it fitted by a dealer as I don't have the tools and I assume my warranty will remain intact if they do the work.

I've registered my interest on this german site and they are showing stock should arrive in May

Just wondering if there is a supply chain delay due to Covid-19 and Bosch are waiting on a shipment. I'm guessing they are made in China but could be wrong.

They’re just 10 minutes down the road from me, I’ve never actually been in before though. I may have a look over there when Boris says we can go out again.

Excellent. Look forward to hearing how you find the install.

So fitted the Kiox on my Rail 7 today and also decided to fit the MT7 brakes I had for sale. Might as swell as I had to drop the motor!
Overall it was an easy couple of hours work. The motor is 6 bolts and is out. Very easy. Taken longer to mess with the battery mounts than actually doing the whole job lol.
Pretty pleased with the change. The Kiox seems allot better than the Purion in my opinion. But the main reason to change is the Lock security option.

Yep straight on. No updates nothing. Connected to the app on my phone and all works as it should
Great to hear. Thanks for the pictures and info. Feel a lockdown treat coming on...

Nice work, any trick to getting the battery mount lined back up properly?

What kind of installation instructions does the kit come with?
