Bosch Gen4 gets more power, is faster than Turbo Levo in drag race

I could say that these tuning & tweaking limitations have been very well known at the time you have made an agreement to go for Bosch closed E-bike ecosystem.

It's a bit hard to follow what you really need. You need more power, the TOUR is nice but EMTB is not. EMTB is bad because pressure but SPORT is good because pressure. Would it be easier to just not update your bike?

What do you actually need for your 23kg trekking/mountain bike?

* In the case of the Performance Line CX, eMTB mode can replace Sport mode. It can be activated/ deactivated by the bicycle manufacturer and the specialist dealer.

I have updated my bike to the latest 85nm update, but it’s thrown out my SPORT mode, and forced me to use EMTB mode instead, that’s my whole issue, why are BOSCH telling me what mode to use after an update, and if I want to tweak any power settings I am required to buy a 500 pounds computer of theirs and alsothrn pay a further £8.99 in their online shop to do so.
Why can’t we have both SPORT and EMTB mode, why is their a sacrifice?

Here’s a thing.
Something very different in battery management software.
After first full charge since update, the range is indicating way lower in all modes than it did.
ECO down from upper 90’s down to 65.
EMTB down from upper 40’s down to 35
Maybe it is just a more accurate representation, or maybe it is lower?
This may be a concern on my normal riding in ECO and TOUR.
Something to monitor over the next few rides
Mine did the same, but after a couple of rides it’s like it’s “learnt” what power your using and now reads about the same as before. I guess it’s something to do with having it flashed with the new software.

Word of warning make sure your dealer loads the correct software version, I have been running about today with less power. Sport mode and no emtb only 300% support and 60nm.

Back to the dealers to get the correct version fitted, bugger

Hi everyone,
reading through the thread and feedback the correct Bosch Gen 4 latest upgrade does both the battery software and the motor software and after upgrade the details should read (on Kiox)

Motor Software: 1.1.0.0 (mine currently v 1.0.3.0)
Battery Software: 1.10.0.0 (mine currently v 1.9.1.0)

Is that correct?

Yep correct, just had mine done today and got a printout checklist.
Purion will also display same, power off and press pwr up, down and power on buttons together and display will cycle through firmware numbers.

Mine has 3.40, no idea what it means, maybe the difference between a UK spec and NZ 32kph spec? Wheel circ is saying 2211mm.

Getting my new cube stereo 160. TM today update has been done gonna put speed box 3 straight on bike that's gonna make it fun to ride ?

And mine is 3.04
I think it will be the gear ratios your bike is fitted with.
Probably so that the Bosch software detects any mechanical tampering to defeat the speed restrictor.
If it is, it begs the question, do you need to have it re-calibrated if you change the cassette or chain ring size?
Could well be right, mine is sram 34t with 11t highest giving 3.09, 34t with 10t is 3.40. Maybe the shop just enters gearing and made a mistake of using a 10-50t cassette?
If it was for calibrating it would only matter in highest gear though. My speedo is 2kph low compared to gps which is more likely a wheel circumference error.
Our 32kph limit is perfect for trails anyway so not worried about it ? the motor is good pre update, quick test in street with update it seems like its going to be a weapon of a motor on the Rail ?

Just had mine updated today, transmission ratio is 3.45 max, 0.9 min.

Yes, I guess this is just the transmission ratio of the cassette to crank as some others wrote.... I was afraid it had something to do with engine torque/power

for those of you that have had the upgrade done, any idea how to consistently get boost feature to work? i thought it was meant to be a quick stamp on the pedal to drive you over techy stuff where you didn't want to risk a pedal strike. works sometimes, but not others?

Whilst it will no doubt assist the timing of pedal strokes, I am not sure if that translates into a stamp on the pedal feature that, in itself would reduce the risk of pedal strikes.

If there is one though, hell I could do with finding it...

Extended Boost is described here, 17 mins in.

I can’t get the update. I’m talking to the shop as they sold it and described it as having the new motor. Bit annoyed.

But also don’t really care that much, as I now use Eco and Trail for almost everything and Turbo for the mental singletrack “let’s try not to crash” sessions.

Hi all, I just got the power upgrade, and the display reads 1.1.0.0, the thing is, I've lost EMTB setting, and it's now SPORT, anyone else had this happen? It's raining here, so I can't road test... previous firmware was 1.0.3.0...I'm confused

Hi, wondering what your firmware version is, I've just had mine 'updated' to 1.1.0.0., from 1.0.3.0 but now I've lost EMTB and gained SPORT...

Hello
there are several new software versions, I think 6 different versions. They just picked one version I guess I was hesitating with.
there are versions 75 Nm, 85 Nm, with Emtb and without Emtb. When without Emtb, it’s replaced with Sport.
your dealer could have asked you what you want....... imho.

Thanks for your reply, yeah I'm bummed they didn't ask, it's a 950 km round trip back to see them! grrr

Looking at the bosch firmware website, there is only one listed firmware version for each motor. The latest for the gen 4 is 1.1.0.0. Which I had flashed and emtb option is still there. I would go to a local bike shop and get them to look at it, cheaper than a massive round trip. Then ask your original retailer to reimburse you.

the following video..... in French explains the different versions...

Best of all, it sounds like it is backward compatible with 2020 model year motors too. 13% more free torque.

Does anyone know the software version for this latest update? My Trek Rail is currently running 1.0.3.0.
1.1.0.0

Could anyone give me any pointers of a shop to get this download done on my bike around the Notts/derby/Leicester borders. Looking at the bosch dealer web site base is a bit limited and a few shops are not around anymore. Not to fussed about traveling as I will put the bike in the van, more concerned about a shop that knows there stuff (y)

Big Bear Bikes in Pickering did mine.
100 miles from Nottingham, but you could combine with a run round Dalby. (y)
Was hoping for a bit closer mate lol. I will log the info though (y)

Hi Everyone, I had my 2020 Jam 2 Bosch Gen 4 software updated to 1.1.0.0 correct version I believe. I have notice today on my first ride that in Turbo mode around 14-15kmh (apprx. 9mph) the torque from the motor drops or flatlines, which feels like the motor has cut out but it hasn't. I never felt this on the previous version. I was riding uphill moguls, on the up side could feel the pull then on the downhill side when hitting the 15kmh it would feel like it cut out but the motor wasn't going.

Has anyone else had the same experience? Could the new update for Performance Speed have been loaded as they are the same version 1.1.0.0? Any other ideas?

When I got my update done, they uploaded the wrong version, it didn't have EMTB mode, and was still 75Nm. Took it back, and there are about 6 versions of 1.1.0.0 The second time I went back, I insisted on watching them tick the right box for update (no facility to print it out). The update is seriously noticeable, heaps more pull at 85Nm. your issue sounds a bit odd...
