New to this, anything wrong with inserting the battery at home, sticking it on the rack and driving to the trails, versus inserting it at the trailhead?

The 2 Bike rack is rated for ebikes.

Some say keep batteries warm either in the house or car as much as possible would also protect it god forbid a car rams you in the back in an accident

lt would make the bike lighter to get on and off the carrier!!

Also you'd probably catch any bike thief who tried to ride off on the bike before
you installed the battery

I don't have a choice on the Rise, it's integral and non-removable. The Meridas we have are all battery-less on the carrier with the batteries in the car. Partially to keep them warm and partially to make it less valuable if stolen...

I almost never remove the battery from the bike. Keeping the battery in place keeps water and crap off the contacts and out of the lock mechanism. If you remove the battery you'll need to have some sort of protection from the elements.

Also if there is a LiPo fire I want it outside the car not inside with me.
