Bafang M560RS, first impressions, HW

Overall nice device, good job on the engineering. Not sure if I want to spend that money for the ability to adjust my LVC though...

Yes, nothing to do. Just some custom firmware.

LVC went on my nerves and that power limiting even more. ;)

In february discount 15% to all devices. And sale for K1 Flash (7 motor version) to 110 Eur. Last 10 devices.

Hi @Dado , so do you still have M560 RS ? How do you like it after some time in comparison with M560 ? Let's not talk about noise now. Somehow I feel M600 lacks some power I would need sometime and also the torque sensor is not the best there so debating switch back to M560. Will be more noisy I know but maybe I will get use to it. Still I'm interested how RS performs because I've seen on aliexpress prices are quite crazy for that one. Over 1000USD.

Maybe you have not catched, there is now perfect silent M560. Just get the latest revision with firmware label v1.6

Forget about RS, it is still beta version and only 500W version. I think production version of RS will be also silent.
But if you want I can sell you my RS, is with 0km.

Thanks, I didn’t know they haven’t progressed with RS version. In that case I would better avoid the test version.

But this new revision of M560 sounds interesting. Did you have a chance to open it ? It is really that silent ? Not sure if peek gears would make it silent alone. Maybe some other design changes but I doubt about it. Maybe I would give it a try, how much it was ? But then I need to sell 3 motors I have in my possession M510, M600 and M560 older revision :)
 
It is some peek gear. And yes, only first gear from rotor axle is needed to have in "plastic". As here are highest rpms and most of noise comes from here. Just you are the guy, who wants to contradict everything. ;)

I have 2 on the way, will open one. And we can bet, internal gearing will be the same apart first gear. If rotor teeth stayed the same (and also next gear) will be possible to easily make quiet also older motors just with swap of gear. If bafang would want to sell it, as I had really hard times to get spare one way gear and motor was on a market for over a year.

If Bafang was listening to warranties, would be also good to strengthen one way bearing. Lot of people break them, also myself.

Will be pushing that new motor, looking forward if gear would stand that torque.

I did hear that high pitch humming noise at high rpms. Like M510. Maybe is also on old ones, just hidden in mechanical noise.

Now a problem, will be hard to get rid of older m560 motors. Of course nobody would want them as this new silent motor spread. And I see m560 is becoming popular (thanks to DJI mania). What a good strategy, lot of m560 owners would want to switch now.

What do I contradict ? The most noise is from the steel rotor wheel (the one with magnet) not from the gear themselves. This one spins highest RMMs creating this high frequency noise and not the gear wheels. I I doubt they would make rotor with plastics. It would not withstand the load...

So not sure what I contradict. Once you get your motors just open it up to see if they really did some structural changes because just changing this peak gear wheel alone will not make the motor silent. It can reduce it though but then the question how long it will last.

This is the peak gear in Bafang motors but pretty sure you know it. The problem is rotor in my opinion.

So let's see if they really changed something but how they made this motor quiet. I have nylon gear in M600 and it's more silent yes, but not quiet. But this one have different gears spinning slower so this most contributes to silence. The sound is also different from M560. It's not that high and more like EVs. I'm fine with that.

If it's only nylon gear then well, changing it would be sufficient and you need to buy new motor. But I don't believe this would make motor silent. Even M510 is not silent :)

What you wanna bet if there will be difference only in first gear?

No man, you should think about yourself and your reactions in first place. Obviously you don't have an idea what is Dunning-Kruger effect since you even don't know how to write it down correctly.

You still say something about quiet Bafang motors. I've never seen a quiet bafang motor. You told even M510 is quiet if I remember. So I've bought it and no, it's not. Slightly more silent than M560 doesn't make it a silent motor. I think our perception of noise is dramatically different. Never mind.

If your statement "perfect silent M560" is truth and we can sell all of our M560 old motors then it's not only about one stupid peak gear replacement. No way this alone can make from old loud M560 a perfect silent motor! Bosch motors are at least 2 - 3x more silent than this, I've told you already. You know what a perfect silent motor is ? Nothing, because such motor does not exist as you would need to defy the laws of physics.

My M510 is quite compared to the other motors in my riding group, Bosch, Shimano, Avinox.
It’s strange that yours is not.

It's difficult to get real world test data but from what I can find, the 'RS' versions appear to be lower noise. In the comments of vid below owner states M560RS is quieter than Bosch Gen 5 which is saying something. BTW that's a 22kg beast of a bike.

Not sure what M560RS they have. But I doubt will be with PEEK gear. That sound on uphil is familiar to me. ;)

Interesting, it has been a long time since I worked in Mech Spec Purpose Machine design but looking at plastics properties , PEEK is indeed very high performance. Another is Torlon, even stronger but doesn't like moisture and less chemical resistance. I recently watched an Avinox M1 teardown video - it's an engineering masterpiece. I'm not sure Bafang can do this, I'd like to be proven wrong.
 
Yes, DJI is piece if art. 2.5kg - unbelievable.
It has 3 nylons (or some material) as planets. So not to be affraid about stripping it.

I think Bafang will also add planetary gear reduction soon or later. ;)
 
Did measure FETs switching speed of this RS controller, has 16kHz. Just if somebody is interested in this parameter. I guess all the Bafang CAN controllers has also 16kHz.

I'm not up on variable speed drives (controllers) for E motors but in the broad scheme of switching, 16kHz is pretty slow. As an example audio D class amps are running MosFETs at a few hundred kHz to MHz and now some are utilising GanFETs - but driving an E bike motors stator coils is a very different beast. Will have to do some study....
 
Is just normal for ebike controllers.
 
Question for those use M560RS. Do you notified a battery power loose on downhill without crank arms turn, but with one mode activated ?

One interesting finding. Have tried to flash 750W firmware v1.6 into M560RS.

Torque sensor is giving torque signal. But to my surprise throttle and also speed sensor does not work. :( So looks like RS would stick with 500W.

Hi,

We already discussed same thoughts in M510 thread, in end I ordered CEF69 with M560RS 750W. Lets see what will come and what HW\SF I got. Maybe new version of motor?

About 560RS motor discounted i got answer :

Dont know why only 500W. Was available only in this single firmware.

I have tried to flash 750W v1.6, but wasnt working speed sensor. And to my surprise also throttle was not working.

It sounds like a small disaster.

What is the way of getting a bit more power out of m510 motor?
- 1 cell up + BBR
- some special firmware ?
- Max current limit change ?

We will see. I guess as new DJI showed up they must revise planes. And also Bosch and others. ;)

-1 cell up
-Firmware is some 22A, but not good.
-Shunt mode
-Register change (like Faketaxi)
- or try put M560 controller
