• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Avinox motor speed limiter removal via VPN

I’m still really struggling with trying to get the speed to actually change on my M2S motor.

I can get the display to show the speed limits as if it was in the US and the region in the firmware page shows the same thing.
Also if I try HK this also shows in the region on the firmware page. However it physically won’t go past 15.5mph.

The steps I try.
- Erase all settings from bike (security doesn’t seem to remove itself? - passcode etc)
- unpair bike from app
- forget Bluetooth connection
- Switch off Wifi
- Switch VPN on to US or HK
- Switch off location settings
- Open app, register new account
- Pair bike with new account
But it still won’t change - Any ideas what I’m doing wrong?

It would be interesting to know who is doing this with the M2S motor and what firmwares they have - I’m wondering if it’s something specific.

Keep wifi turned on but disable your mobile data connection along with your location setting. Make sure the vpn is running before you attempt anything.

Once derestricted you should be fine until you change the bikes firmware. For this you need to approve any update inside the ride app, at least thats the way it works so far. The ride app might update itself but the derestriction/location settings are stored and managed inside the bike controller, not inside the ride app. Until now, pairing the app with the bike didn't change drestriction behaviour for me. Anyway over time you can't avoid pairing ride app and bike controller from time to time to manage battery settings to keep capacity at optimum.
Thanks for that. I'll turn off automatic updates for the app so that I have to approve them first (and am therefore ready to manage it all). I'm assuming we will be good to run on old firmware for a while if we don't want new features. It will become important if that firmware update is to correct an issue or problem that has been identified.

I guess it will be a case of keeping an eye on all the forums to see if Avinox find a way to block all the work arounds in a particular firmware update. I'm assuming they will, although I'm not sure why they go to all that effort. As long as there are some "general hurdles" to jump to derestrict, we are not the target audience for all the problems that are occuring in and around cities with the e-moto's.

Will wait and see how it all plays out.

Thanks Beezeek, after many failed attempts, this worked for me. The only thing I had to do at the end was erase all data from bike. Then it de-
restricts.
I've not got my bike yet, it has landed and is with the LBS getting prepped... hopefully picked up this week while the weather is fine and I can get out on dry trails! I assume erasing the data from the bike is easily done off the touch screen then?

I’m not sure I didn’t need to erase all bike data, I just unpaired it from the app and my phone.
