Could we have a sub forum for hand wringing Americans to cry over their state juntas banning fun so us European libs under no such threat can enjoy bombing around unfettered on our 10,000 watt bikes without their shit spamming the joint to death?

Well - Queensland in australia are basically banning everything* over 25kmph from july 1st.Could we have a sub forum for hand wringing Americans to cry over their state juntas banning fun so us European libs under no such threat can enjoy bombing around unfettered on our 10,000 watt bikes without their shit spamming the joint to death?
That's been the law in NSW since the day dot. Enforcement has always been the issue.Well - Queensland in australia are basically banning everything* over 25kmph from july 1st.
Massive fines including sieze and crush.
Expected to roll out to more states.
The S-Works Levo should be banned according to your logic as it has been updated to 850W !?!Ok, so DJI Avinox system is not classified as an e-bike in CA, but as a motorcycle? How does this affect DJI, shops selling DJI bikes, etc? Seems like they are now in a different legal class than ebike? Is it the 'nominal' motor power loophole? That is how all the non-legal ebikes get sold at retail, the makers always say 'nominal' power is 750 watts, but the motor is capable of like 3000 or 5000 watts. That's like, every other ebike sold in CA. The nominal thing should probably be rescinded. It's either 750 or less, or it's not.
Same as in the UK where the issue is also enforcement. That's been the law in NSW since the day dot. Enforcement has always been the issue.
Yes, not too many EMTB's in this lot thankfully!Same as in the UK where the issue is also enforcement.
Think enforcement is increasing in some parts of the UK. Recently read about some non-compliant eBikes being confiscated on the spot by the police and crushed.

There have been news reports of police cracking down in many city centres and confiscating illegal bikes. Seems to be aimed at Deliveroo type riders who blast through pedestrian areas rather than the eMTB crowd. I some how can't see them deploying into the local woodsYes, not too many EMTB's in this lot thankfully!

Undeniable win when HIPAA protects Americans’ personal health information. You can’t be even asked for proof of a disability. At least that’s my layman’s understanding of the law.I ride in a State Preserve next to my house. It has about 15 miles of single track. Up until a few weeks ago “no peddle assist” bikes were allowed (although it was never enforced). Now they just put up signs saying E-Bikes are allowed providing you have a disability that requires it. That is basically throwing in the towel. Everybody has a disability of some kind

Yeah that’s wrong.Undeniable win when HIPAA protects Americans’ personal health information. You can’t be even asked for proof of a disability. At least that’s my layman’s understanding of the law.
My wife and daughter are in the medical field so I understand HIPAA more than I care to. This is why I feel the authorities are basically throwing in the towel because they know they can’t go down that road. It’s a multiuser trail (hikers/horses/MTB and now EMTB) Everyone that rides these trails knows most of the hikers hate us, so this rule change basically allows the authorities to wash their hand of it which is fine with me. They made a rule that can’t be enforcedUndeniable win when HIPAA protects Americans’ personal health information. You can’t be even asked for proof of a disability. I’m not sure it is wrong but I’m open to being educated on this if you can.Yeah that’s wrong.
Well…I would definitely qualify. I could hang the handicap-tag next to the air-freshener and my support dog permit.Maybe you need to get a Handi-tag for your EMTB now.
As you can see from the post below from today. Going down your anti-tampering path. There are many Motors where tampering is considered easy. So you are going to get every EMTB outlawed in the UK.not all emtbs are compliant...
I have a 2023 Orbea Rise M10 with ep801, decided to de tune the motor now that it’s out of warranty. I heard a lot of good reviews about **** so went with that. The process was very easy with the Shimano pce-2 device.
the Rise is RS tuned to 60Nm - the 'detuning' is probably going to the standard Shimano EP801 torque @ 85nmAs you can see from the post below from today. Going down your anti-tampering path. There are many Motors where tampering is considered easy. So you are going to get every EMTB outlawed in the UK.
You are not helping. You need to let this go.

I starred out ***** the tool he used. It's the exact same tool for tampering. The screen to change the torque, has the region control as well.the Rise is RS tuned to 60Nm - the 'detuning' is probably going to the standard Shimano EP801 torque @ 85nm
Eh? Swayed how & by whom? With UK riding access laws so easily swayed.
I''m no expert on Shimano motors but delimiting Bosch Smart System motors is certainly not easy. The chip de-restrictors are expensive and not 100% effective and if you can find anyone to change the firmware to a USA version it still has a max of only 32 kmh, also either method will certainly void any warranty on a new bike!I know many people with Bosch and Shimano motors - the very first thing absolutely every single one of them did was take it to the other shop up the road that allowed the 'chipping' to remove the limiter!
I don't know. It's the raft of UK riders on this forum saying they are trying to protect access rights from, "The Waking Authorities", by starting threads like this one. It seems a UK based theory. We certainly aren't seeing any mention of EMTB issues here in Australia. Only E-Moto.Eh? Swayed how & by whom?
Oh I see. So it's a confident assertion that upon scrutiny turns out to be you citing a guy living in Italy & referring to developments in Italy, extrapolated to the UK without any evidence at all, save for a bunch of randoms on an internet forum & run up to an entire raft of policy. Some might call that overreach. I'd probably choose a different adjective.I don't know. If you check the person I quoted. They have said this.Hmmm.
After 20 mins at full power, the Bosch CX5 continues to deliver over 600 watts. The Shimano EP801, over 450 watts. The Avinox M1 over 800 watts.Just concerned that knee jerk legislation is going to react to high powered motors - my bike is limited from 85 to 60Nm but it still draws 339W in turbo - exceeding 250W - don't want to be told I can only ride with permission on private land or other stupidness like licensing.
I'm sure they did & you're just the piano player. Unfortunately, the tune you ended up playing bears no relation to what was composed or indeed objective reality. It would be easier all round if you just for once attempted to overcome your programming & accept that His majesty's government is not in fact reviewing countryside trail accessibility just because some guy said so on here & it gave your own biases one hell of a cuddle. I'm not much of a fan of out & out bullshit, doubling down on it, even less so.If you check the person I quoted. They have said this.

Sure. Sometimes in risk management, you present a solution to a risk that has almost zero probability of happening, just to cover off anyone going down that path.Unfortunately, the tune you ended up playing bears no relation to what was composed or indeed objective reality.
I think this is actually correct, because Cali law quotes maximum motor power, not rated motor power. You are supposed to manually set peak power to 750watts to comply. Specialized has the same issue.According the Google AI Amflow bikes are illegal in California and some other states as they have a power of more than 750W.
