I'm really intrigued by this. I sort of wandered whether they might go left field with Maxon or something along those lines.

I can't imagine their manufacturing technique is conducive to creating a downtube with a battery in it, but maybe I'm wrong.

If you look at c/duro they are owned by a company that actually purely makes these carbon tubes like Atherton use.

They make them in all sorts of shapes, and have a proto e bike with the battery in the down tube that is also glued/lugged to CNC alloy housings

Motor choice, battery platform, suspension choice, HP/non-HP, fabrication choice, even transmission choice, all up in the air. Downduro, Enduro, All Mountain, all up in the air. Hopefully the wait will be worth it. I'm liking their gearbox bike and hope they extrapolate on that.

That would be cool, but Maxon really needs to their sh1t together on the battery, controller, and software front. Batteries are not swappable and have freaking dongles on them. Other than that Maxon would be great.

Yeah, would say Bosch. A key point they make it how tough dyfi area is and they want reliability. So Bosch is a safe bet.

The DJI has proven to be a very reliable unit. Where I feel it's lacking just a tiny bit in other areas, that very well might be corrected in March-April with the M2 release.

Maxon should just use someone else's already well developed battery, the HP 580w would be pretty ideal for that power level and they also have a RE.

It's far from reliable. The amount of speed sensors going with weeks or months wait for a new one. Dji are even telling people to replace the whole motor because of.a faulty sensor. They suffer from water ingress. It's a first Gen motor, they will get better. But it's far from the top of the post for reliability.
I think the m2 was meant to launch at eurobike 2026? That's not till June. So likely August/September for release.

Maxxon would be cool. But unproven. I don't think Atherton bikes can gamble on this. They will just go with a proven quantity, so likely Bosch.

I'm intrigued. If they can offer their custom geometry in an e bike and manage to bring their ride and finish quality across, then it can be something special.

I think so. They nearly released one 3 years ago with a Shimano motor. Then didn't when all the shimanos started failing. They have just been waiting for a reliable partner with good battery tech. I reckon geo etc has been sorted for a long time

I wasn't aware that the Avinox's had reliability issues. We don't see them here but also it's dry so that probably improves reliability. That said, I've never been more convinced that the Bosch is a better motor overall.

Man, 22 sizes on their trail bikes, all with the same chainstay length! I just don't get it.

they need to increase the usable size first and foremost, their 400wh battery only has 336wh usable. that's way lower than any other system on the market atm:

3 bikes with a maxon that use some kind of a lugged system
That Dedicated is exactly that I was envisioning, since I assume Atherton sticks with printed lugs and carbon tubing motif. except with Atherton's downhill suspension on their gearbox bike. Then, only slim battery solutions make sense like the Maxon and Avinox. Then again, Maxon need to get their act together with a slim 600+WH battery (earlier rumors have hinted otherwise about their 600wh battery not being slim, which would doom them).

I built this last weekend.

Well, Atherton built the frame, not me. I did the rest though. I can honestly say the whole purchase process has been amazing, their attention to detail, replies to emails, updates, everything about it, just amazing. I can't see any way an Ebike of theirs would be anything less than fantastic. I'm a massive fan now.

Lol

I'm guessing you work on a shop dealing with all these faulty Avinox systems then?

The updated systems are coming at Sea Otter Classic, in April.

Errr.... no.

Looks like they have 3 chainstay sizes available, from 430-440 on the AM150, which was the one I considered a few years back. Pretty sure it was 1 or 2 back then, but either way too short for my tastes.

For a custom frame, I think that's much too limited when you are talking reaches from 415- 535.

Anyways, I'm exicting to see what they bring to the table for their e-bike.

A simple look on just this forum gives a lot of examples of the above and some very unhappy people. It's a lot more common thn some make out. The after sales in them abbissmal. Week to months on parts.
