Levo Gen 2 2020 Turbo Levo Owners Thread

So a few days ago I heard my 2020 Levo Comp making a ticking/clicking sound at slow speeds, now when I wind the crank backwards it feels rough and sounds like a bit of a grinding noise - assume that winding it backwards should be smooth and silent? Visit to the LBS is imminent I think.....

It’s not legal in many parts and in the park under consideration here ( in WA ) but I think calling 911 is way overblown. The problem is irrational hate from other mountain bikers who are threatened by e-bikes for some strange reason. We see a bit of that from some horse riders, but it also reminds me of the early days when skiers hated snowboarders. I don’t know why many American riders are so close minded.

Heres the thread -
How to report mopeds & motorcycles at Duthie?- Mtbr.com

The hate shown there won’t be solved rationally - the haters think of them as mopeds and refuse to see the advantages of pedal assist. But I agree with your suggestions on influencing state and local decision makers and the business angle is a good idea.

I was sorely tempted to comment on this guy's post, but refrained. I have never really run into any negativity on the trails and have often stopped and chatted with riders who make a good natured "cheater bike" comment. I like to point out that their youth and fitness looks like cheating to me! I always ask them if they want to take it for a quick spin and they often accept and enjoy it. I started riding in the late eighties when I was about 30 years old.... I ride the same loop today, in the same time I rode it then, but now I need an ebike...

I thought I should post my SECOND 2020 Levo... when Specialized marked down and rebated the Sworks, in my size, and in my color... and my dealer closed the gap, I couldn't resist. I love my 2020 Comp but it is on the block!

I had this grinding noise when winding backwards. I took off the cranks, cleaned bottom bracket area with a dry cloth, wound crank backwards and dead smooth with no noise so satisfied it's not something horrible, but dust or grit on the interface between the crank and the motor housing. Cleaned up face of crank, greased splines and assembled. Sorted.

On Saturday I did a longer trip, 223 km, didn't charge or change the battery. Even after 200 km I had still about 28 %, but my bottom said strongly enough.

the elevation shows me that these must be relatively flat roads? Also, I'm guessing you aren't as fat as me! I rode 17 miles yesterday, with 1,713 feet of EG and had 40% left.

You're right, mostly flat roads. I am 90 kg and 59 years old so I wanted to try what I am able still to do.
But I put FastTrak tyres, on roads are very usable. On mountains I'll put the Butcher back.

Hated the howl from Code RSC brakes when wet (seems like always wet here) or on long descents. Changed only the rotors to Shimano and the howl quits very quickly in the wet and never hear it on long descents. Fade slightly less on long steep descents as well. That's a really dramatic upgrade that others might consider. I got expensive XTR ones but wouldn't be surprised if SLX worked as well.

Except the original I have my own presets and I'm changing them during ride.

BTW, I did printscreen every 50 km. It's seen from beginning I rode mainly without engine. Some parts I rode more than 25 km/h so without again. After 200 km I was really tired so I've set the Turbo or Trail for last 23 km around home. If not it would be possible to do in sum over 250 km, but not the same day.

You might be interested in this post I made:

100 mile range from a Turbo Levo with 500w battery! Normal bike SIM settings. - EMTB Forums

It focused on maximising range, but these settings can be used fix the assistance at a defined wattage assistance which you might find useful for road or XC rides. Each 10% segment of Peak Power is approximately 56watts (100% = 560watts). Here support mode is 100% so power delivery is constantly and safe to max. You will in theory get 40% more range from your 700w battery.

@Levo Laland: thanks, it looks interestingly, will try it next ride and will see. I have no problem to ride just on myself for a long time but on the flat, on some bigger hills I am very glad I have the engine.
Usually I calculate 1% for about 2,5 km of medium difficult route. On mountains, in forest on pedestrian trails doing over 2000 m of EG my 700 Wh battery is OK just for about 70 - 90 km.

Went for my first real ride today with my 2020 comp. I was surprised how noisy the motor is, even in eco mode. Is this to be expected? Lbs says it’s normal Even though he hasn’t heard it since shop is closed for covid. I had test ridden the 2018 which was quiet in eco then progressively louder in each mode And expected similar on the 2020. I was under the impression eco would be quieter than trall. In fact turbo is just slightly louder than eco. I’m hearing a whining sound all the time.

Bike is all set up nice though and looks beautiful — got some compliments on the trail.View attachment 28616
Nice setup! Can you tell us the manufacturer/ model number of your front fender? Thx!

Can I ask how different the S Works feels to the Comp. Ride lighter, feel much better?

Same thing on mine. 2020 base model Levo. Did you try picking the bike up and hand pedalling till the 15mph cut off with the motor in turbo? That seems to have solved it on mine for now but for a 12 day old bike thats done 150miles i'm not holding out much hope it will last any real length of time.

I've been paying more attention and I feel I'm really able to go through rough stuff much faster and with more confidence... as you can guess it is hard to quantify. Oh it IS a little easier to load onto my Kuat rack!

Temperature related creaking - Since I picked up the bike in November, I have heard plastic creaking sounds from the motor area about half the time I have ridden it. Over time I noticed its totally temperature dependent, below 75-80 degrees it creaks when pedaled in any gear or power mode. Above that temp, the creaking stops. Sometimes as i begin riding it creaks and then as the motor warms up, it stops. Let it cool down, and more creaking. I'm not super concerned because any plasic creaking noises that stop when the temperature is a little higher could not be that serious in the first place. I'm just wondering if anyone else expereinced this and is there a particular place that could be greased up to prevent the creaking?

Had same problem with my new bike. Took it in. Bike shop said there’s a little thing Inside that is known to cause it that he lubricated and the noise is gone. Mine was really loud in the beginning then became softer and now with the lbs work it’s gone. it could be a “seating in” thing.

My lbs asked me if i wanted them to order me a new motor as soon as i showed them a video of the noise. I said yes, but i want to drive this one into oblivion first. A bit of pre-emptive action i thought was best to keep me on the trails. Forks failed too (got sticky and stiff at bottom of travel), so waiting for them to sort that out at the mo. The two year warranty seems a little short right now but in all honesty, i love it so much, i'll stomach a few nightmares to get my jollies. I just hope it's not too many, too often.

Hi all, I'm baaaaaaack :)

And I can finally count myself a true Levo owner, not just a confirmed reservation holder. Even though I never got the S-works frame as planned due to current situation and specialized not being able to deliver that apparently, I did end up with a complete expert instead, which I put all the bling bling on.

Here's a few pics from when I built it for now both with trail wheels and commute wheels. Further pic's will come... I promise ?
