2019 Harness short prevention

I've had the dreaded red lights come on a couple of times, both times not that long after carefully (i.e. with low hose pressure) washing the bike - no recurrence recently, but am not entirely confident I won't ever have to pedal it unassisted a very long way one day, and I have a dirty bike now too.
My mate who hoses his S-Works down after every ride had a total power failure when it was only a week old, and so had the take it back 250 km to the LBS who replaced all the cables one by one until it worked again - it turned out to be the speed sensor cable that was the culprit, and I suspect water ingress is the prime suspect in this case as well.

Prevention is better than cure. Proven electrical rules on cable radius create high resistance at choke points leading to short, heat and possible damage to canbus lead transfer. The sensor wires within the harness are also affected.
No electrical engineer would fit a cable that kinks like that.

Correct its not very good practice with longevity in mind.

Well the despite the kink, crack and "gunk" on the power lead, a swap changed nothing. So I don't think it's just the kink in the lead to blame on the faults. I don't really see the point in this unless it's proven to fix/prevent something.
Reject the bike for a new one or refund.
That makes sense to me as I use my bike daily, 7 days a week and it impacts on my income being bike-less.

How do I stand though because only the frame and motor are standard, I bought it mail order from other end of country, with a local dealer 10 miles away.

Also, isn't there a worldwide shortage of stock?

When I look at the below picture, I don't understand why the exit from the part plugged in is not on the other side (left in picture) then the cable would be half the length and be straight without kink. Or is that too obvious,

Absolutely agree, my guess is its just the same cable from the 2018 bikes

There are apparently some software updates to be done as well but no details on what this fixes/changes. Should know more later this week what the prognosis is and I will report back.

The bike shop phoned me today. Apparently the problem is that the plug that goes into the motor is cracked (which I think I have just seen reported by someone on another thread today) This has allowed moisture/water in and the bike does not switch on as it detects a short and protects itself. I got the distinct impression this was not the first time they have encountered this issue. A new wiring harness is required and will be requested from Specialised. Apparently the plug in question has been modified. Lots of other post have suggested the cable is the problem, and I know Specialised have said they have not had a problem with the cable in regards to kinking - maybe this plug is the issue?

Seems like Specilized need to have a lot of hands to keep everything in hand at the moment :cool:

Unfortunately there are matters that specialized and trail watts cannot discuss. Everything is being worked on to improve the bikes and rider enjoyment.

So have you reached an agreement with Specilaized that fitting the trail watts stem does not void the warranty? I know with previous similar systems they have always been caveat emptor with regards to the factory warranty.

Trail Watts and Specialized cannot discuss any matters publicly to protect both parties ?

Surely if someone wants to fit one then they need to know though? Specilized have been pretty clear on here before that they consider fitting such systems as voiding the warranty.

This isn't having a go at your product, as I am all for them and cant wait till something similar for the Shimano is available, but your post imply you are working with Spoecilized on the systems, but they have always been clear that modifying the bike in an way is a no no as afar as they are concerned.

Exactly why I cannot state anything. Any manufacturer has to protect their product from damage or bad publicity. Trail Watts has gone to great lengths to ensure both parties are protected and possible damage eliminated. Hence why all the electrical protections and tested connections in Trail Watts system have been on my own personal bike for years of development.
I do not want to damage someone’s bike, I want them to ride the bike more and with safety.

That's good to know, because it's probably what mine needs.

Yes my cable had a crack in it. The replacement one looked identical though.

Specialized were quick to get in touch and arrange a new cable, which I fit myself. But since that didn't fix it it's all gone quiet. They're not getting to me and the shop not returning my calls.
