Hi all, Ok so hope v4 vs current brakes shimano m420.

Not going to lie main reason of thinking about these other than anything else is looks, I am a tart.
Question 1
I assume they will be much better than my current setup? In terms of performance.
Question 2
If I refer to them in terms of car brakes, are the hope brakes like track car brakes I.E need warming up for best performance? Or do they work well straight off?
Question 3
Are they noisy?
Question 4
What’s to dislike about them

Morning,
the whole warming up issue is related to the brake pad material, not the mechanical brake. So that’s just pad choice.

The Tech 4 has more power than the 3, in fact more power than anything I have ever used, but the lever feel is taking some getting used to. I am using their ebike purples for now and they have a very light squeak on initial pull but quieten down almost immediately.

And they look awesome, which matters….

Some pics from my bedding in route, she’s not a tarmac tart, she lives in the lakes and Scotland most weekends, but I happen to live by the sea so can slip out for hardware testing before the thieving scum come out at sundown… lol

We’ve now installed three sets of Hope Tech 4 V4’s on customers bikes. I personally think they are fantastic brakes.

I’ve owned or ridden pretty much all of the top brands (XTR, Code RSC’s, TRP’s, Saints and my last setup was Shigura’s XTR/MT7) and now currently own arguably the strongest brakes you can get, Trickstuff Maxima’s.

I tell customers that with the Tech 4’s you’re getting 90-95% of the performance of the Maxima’s but at almost half the cost.

Bleeding the correctly to maximum performance is important though.

Thanks guys, they do look the nuts for sure. Brake lever feel is something I think I need to try first.

Im getting some annoying squeal off the front(ive only the front fitted currently) and thats in the dry.
It squeals annoyingly and initially when you apply a bit of brake, but pull harder to stop the squeal disappears.
Not sure if its an alignment issue or a pad choice issue - im using stock red, might try purple and see how they go.

Power - Even with wondering if alignment is correct, I've yet to need to squeeze hard enough, in fact Im a little bit afraid to.
I've seen reviews on other forums where some have trickstuff brakes and are putting them on par with those.

There has been some leaking issues, but Hope will sort that if you return them to them, and i think thats maybe an early batch and its probably been sorted. It's unlike Hope to let such issues stand for long, so while they're not vocal on the leak problem, i guess the powers that be have been busy little squirrels identifying whats the prob and sorting it forthwith.

I mean. BORING black shimano, yawn. Go get something thats nicely ano'd

I own Trickstuff and have ridden Hope Tech 4 V4’s. As much as I like the Hope’s and I’m going to put some on my other bikes, they are not on the level of the Maxima’s.

I’d say that they are 90% of the Trickstuff’s though, which is still fantastic.

What rotors are you using with them?

Mine had the same light application squeal and after further inspection i found that i was engaging the right side of the calliper ever so slightly before the left. Re-centering of the caliper solved that and also the squeak. :)

As an aside, I had opportunity to test my Tech 4 back to back with my mates Tech3 on some nice steep 30%+ tech stuff yesterday and that's where these come into their own now that I am used to them. My mates Tech 3 V4 needed so much more finger pressure to maintain the same safe pace that I had tired hands at the bottom of a 2.5 minute run.

I wouldnt go back now, no chance :)

Hi.
I have 2 ebikes both equipped with Tech 4 V4.

First one has Fox 38 Grip2 fork, 220 mm hope vented rotor, no issues on front brake also using different pads.

Second bike has RS ZEB fork, 220 mm hope vented rotor, and I have strong vibrations on brake using different pads.
I also changed 220 mm rotor with a different brand, resulting in same issues.

Brakes are bleeded and alligned.

Any suggestions? Shall I have to reduce front diameter from 220 to 200 or 203?
Best pad combination?

Thanks.
