Opps, credit to the GF for the beach pic.Good day out by the looks of it.Great turnout today up at Kielder ..7 riders for a bit of a mix-up of parts of the Lonesome Pine / Deadwater & Osprey trails ..well I say seven but that number soon dropped down to six as we somehow managed to lose Colin very early in the ride with absolutely no idea how it happened..we spent a good while re-tracing our tracks but to no avail we never did see him again ( however it transpires that he got ahead of us when we did the section of Deadwater ).
It goes without saying that we are all sorry to have missed you Colin .

New rack day! Sold the Toyota Tacoma in favor of something a little more economical and had to get a bike rack for it. North Shore Bike Racks are one of the most reliable methods of transport and with a few mods, you can use a U-Bolt lock with it to make it pretty secure.
The Pipe is used to hold the U Bolt locks up off of the ground and in a difficult location to stop lock cutters from getting at the lock. Nothing trumps an angle grinder unfortunately
Or getting rear ended.

As for the rack and rear shunt ..its just reinforced why mine goes inside the car ..but that is one weird looking carrier ..I've not seen anything like that in the UK where bikes are carried vertically ..

Haha, these pedestrians from the old country have no idea what it's like to have to go off road to get to a trail head head to park your "car". I am SURE they would ride the extra 10km up the FSR as their street cars would get caught up in the water bars and their racks would shake off their bikes too!Forget about those naysayers. The Taco was great but just too big for me to drive around in the city and such a waste for one person for 90% of the time. The Crosstrek is perfect but the 18 year old boy in me wants to put in a lift kit and KO2s!

Three Cross Treks park at our trail head on a regular basis. They all have the lift-kit mod. And they travel in packs
.Your rack is a must have on some of our access. We use the Thule foldable rack for most trips to Whistler or Kelowna.(folds up like a suitcase), but it’s not suitable for some of our gravel roads. We have access to other racks for that.

Topsy-Turvy Ride today. Lots of trees fallen and blocking the trails causing more exercise than I had been looking for today. After months of rain it was surprising that trails are not deep mud.

My home is on the southern edge of Europe's largest man-made forest ..250sq miles..and whisper it but I've a key to open all the forest road barriers ..of which all are gravel.
My transport of choice is an Audi A6 Allroad 3.0l V6 Quattro S-tronic .( 272PS)

With our Torridon trip getting ever closer..and with the prospect of four consecutive rides in mountainous terrain ..I thought I'd better get this lardy arse used to more than the current one ride weekly ..so headed out of the door for the second ride of the weekend in the area of Kielder Forest closest to me ..Pundershaw / Allerybank & Roughside..I had intended spending time clearing sections with fallen trees ( at least enough branches to gain passage ) ..but that fell by the wayside after the first section when I lost my folding saw out of my backpack..totally gutted

With our trip to Torridon fast approaching I’d thought I’d get my shandy ass into gear for some apree’ trail riding practice……….font care about camp fire niceties
Rode with wife up Chalkpit Lane today (north of Chichester), a tough ride into the face of a northeasterly gale on Chimet in the Eastern Solent.
A pic of the Eastern Solent taken from the Trundle which is at the top of Chalkpit Lane. Can see the Isle of Wight to the right.
On the way back with the wind behind us (oh bliss!
) the South Downs chalk sponge is discharging water into the fast flowing river Lavant.
But not the only thing being discharged into the Lavant which finally ends up in the Eastern Solent.
