Ardrock intro 2023 towards the end of stage 3. I didn't look good at the end - sooo much rain and mud!

...and yet we were in the area on the Wednesday before in near perfect conditions ( even had a little play on some sections 🤫)...but noting the weather that weekend I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for you all..

I was going to ride yesterday but there was just a tad too much precip..and while I'm not bothered at all if it rains when I'm out there ..I hate starting off with it already raining ..so took another day off today and headed up to Kielder my local "trail centre" ..spent my time on the last section of the red "twist & shout" x2..then did the Osprey Trail ..which is a blue trail and in my opinion ( biased )..the best trail centre blue I've ridden ...spoilt only by the fact that the budget ran out before it could be completed ..but the link up forest road section isn't too bad and a new vista has opened up after recent felling ..where you can now view Kielder Castle from above ..
I rode the last section of this trail x3 times by taking the forest road from where it meets the Lakeside Way and climbing back up to the maintenance access track at the top ..a bit naughty 😜
Anyway a few pics ..and the first one of a couple of lads who I met at Twist & Shout ..over from Cumbria ..
They seemed interested in maybe joining the forum ... View attachment 121770
The view of Kielder Castle from near to the Osprey Chick section ..( still closed ) Zoom in

Why have I taken a picture of these trees ? ..well when this trail was first built there was a clear view across the valley to the Lonesome Pine Trail..just shows how time flies .. View attachment 121774
Fams Bridge & the stream below View attachment 121776
This section of trail just flows so well..from this point down ( Squirrel Nut Pines) to the Lakeside Way ..
If it had a few " features " it would be a " red " ..but so skinny is the singletrack that it would probably spoil things ..give it a try if you are in the area ..you won't be disappointed.. View attachment 121777 View attachment 121778

Sunrise and moonset on this morning’s ride.

It’s been hotter than Satan’s taint here for the past couple of months. 40°C and up. We’re breaking long-standing records for consecutive days at 100°F or more.

You know it’s brutally hot when:
A. I’m actually bitching about the heat, and
B. I’ll get my ass up at 0500 to ride at 0600.

It can be a drag in those temps. I lived in a desert town in Central Australia when we had more than 28 consecutive days over 40ºC and nearly every other day over the course of 3 months was over 38ºC, many days amongst those were up around peaks of 44ºC. We mainly did night riding during the summer months but even then it would still be 32ºC.

Ooof. Damn, at least it cools down to 28°C or so at night here. It’s been absolutely miserable, tbh. And our monsoon rains have basically been a no-show. I keep wondering when in the hell I moved to Phoenix, AZ and didn’t notice?
