Please note: the LIKE tick I gave is for the cute little hedgehog, and not for the revolting picture of the saddle!

Yeah looking good from the bottom..not a flake in sight ..😉
We ended up carrying off and on the rest of the day. We also had to go under and over trees. The "flakes" melted last week as we got a few inches in the high country. No one hits these trails yet as its too much work but I dont mind. The remote lakes are full and no people.

Got to the top and all the fun flowy Blues that we wanted to ride were closed for a race! Only several miles of Blacks and Double Blacks to get back down. A bit more adventure than we wanted and my legs are killing me this morning.

(not me but the same trail)

There are only about one million hedgehogs left in the UK, when there used to be many millions. When I was a young lad, I lived in a big grimy industrial city in the north of England, and even I used to see them walking about from garden to garden, sometimes in the street. Even today, in the UK they are seen cute little things that keep the slugs off your plants. Beatrix Potter helped with the cuteness angle of course.

I was in New Zealand in April this year and the coach driver told us that there are about 16 million of them and they are seen as vicious predators that prey freely on the native wildlife that has no defence against them. In NZ, hedgehogs have no natural enemies except man and they are killed on sight. New Zealand's Department of Conservation's target is for their elimination by 2050. YIKES! Big Ahhhhh for Mrs Tiggy-winkle! **

** Google Gemini: Mrs Tiggy-winkle is the titular hedgehog washerwoman created by Beatrix Potter in her 1905 children's book, The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle.

This is boring .. had a creak on the Vitus .. tried the usual loosen/tighten/move/lube everything .. eventually decided my trusty nukeproof pedals weren't so trusty ..

After upgrading the bike to Amflow spec (well, 38t chainring because the m510 is turd at high cadence) .. followed @Astro66 and went for matching hideous pedals - which I quite like - so must be a mid life crisis or something .. they were also cheap but good reviews on amazon and actually look nicely made and came with spares/allen key ..

Up with the larks this morning and at the trail head for 8.30 having travelled 30 miles south for one of my favourite rides ( anywhere) before it got too hot ..and as such just

Im not one for a great deal of sunshine on my bod ..and while it was hot enough for me there was also a lovely breeze to keep things on the right side of comfortable ..
*trying to post pics is just getting worse ..those three in the middle of the txt were supposed to follow on from the one at the bottom ..took numerous attempts over the course of 20 minutes with the added bonus of a duplication ffs .....grrrr

Would kill for that. It's been 30+ here all week. So hot that I haven't wanted to step outside, much less go for a ride. 🥵

30°C 🥶

Hahaha... be careful what you wish for. I remember you saying not so long ago... along the lines of about how the sun had just came out after a shit Winter. You do get a humid heat over there so it feels harder/warmer than we get but we live 9 months of the year in 30-45°C... believe me you do get acclimatised (soft) very quickly when it comes to the heat living here.

Enjoy the sun while it lasts 😎

Taps aff!

Incidentally, I first heard that expression from James Smith, guitarist in the excellent & much underrated Norn Iron band Exmagician & before that, the excellent & much underrated band Cashier #9.

Taps aff!
Its a common Norn Irish saying when the temp gets over 14°C 🤣

T shirt riding weather that.

T-shirt, shorts and kneepads, how we live 9 months of the year. I'm in long pants (trowsers) and light jacket at the moment. Got myself a MT500 jacket the last trip home but its for bad weather. Always take advantage of trips to the mother country to stock up on bad weather gear

I'm guessing your humidity is high ? Been 42 to 45 all week here and been out at least twice everyday on the bike.

Humidity is about 20 so your sweat is evaporating efficiently and whilst you're on the move it's actually quite pleasant.

When you stop your body turns into a human waterfall and isn't pleasant for anyone near.

Only about 30 today so far but far higher humidity and it doesn't feel particularly nice.
