Forbidden DreadNought E

That's nothing out of the norm. Any carbon full power enduro ebike weighs right around there. Add 3-4lbs if aluminum.

That has not been my experience or observation with an Enduro build; just a couple of exceptions with the 750-800wh battery, namely the Wild & the Crestie. Most with Enduro builds and 800wh batteries seem a bit closer to 24 kgs/ 53#s.

Guess we live in different worlds then.

Just finished a good maiden voyage of my Dreadnought E. I have a few observations...

1) Faaaast over terrain. Truly rolls like a DH bike...very plush and planted (Tier 2 build...new Fox Factory 38).

2) The Avinox M2S motor EATS battery in Auto assist...but, I ran it in Eco since I wanted the workout...the battery had lots of range. I rode a sporty 6 mile loop and the battery depleted from 83% start to 70%.

3) The bike flies better than my Gen 2 S-Works Turbo Levo (2020 model), even though it's a bit heavier. It feels more balanced, and easier to control while airborne (my Levo seems very front-heavy once off the ground).

4) If you get your pre-load and compression settings correct...it can feel as poppy as other bikes...but absorbs the big hits better.

5) The Dread E definitely rides smaller than you'd think...no problems with tight trail spaces or maneuverability. I think much is blown out of proportion with respect to ride reviews.

Self disclosure: I have never ridden a high-pivot bike before, and my DH bike isn't a high pivot either...so these are first observations with no comparative experience prior.

I hope this info isn't boring or unhelpful...I'm very glad I made the decision to purchase this bike over other Avinox new bikes.

Be interesting in seeing what the M2S is like detuned. My M1 eats the battery as well when it was set with factory settings but detuned it is miles better

Out of interest, how tall are you and what size bike did you get....I'm getting excited even though now hoping it don't land too soon. Had an oopsy a week ago, in a sling, probably 8-10 weeks if all good, otherwise an op coming up (find out Friday when I visit the shoulder surgeon...fark...why me!).

I was going through the druid and dreadnought spec sheets last night and was surprised that you need to get t1 or t2 builds for the m2s motor (over $10k) and only the t1 builds come with the fast charger (over $12k). the fast charger would then cost around $400 if you can even find one. this is pretty disappointing and will turn many away that don't have high budgets

Agree with this. I bought a fast charger from italy for my druid, just use it for park days recharging but shame it didnt come with the bike.

Was anyone able to get a 600wh battery from the dealer on their bike? Or are all the bikes coming with the 800?

My LBS had the option but didn't exercise it as an option as they haven't had anyone want one... even the previous Druide's apparantly were all Core... no demand by all accounts.

I wish they had put zebs or 38s on the druids like last years build, the price difference between T2 Druid and Dread is nothing but you get well beefer parts on the dress and yeah it’s meant for different things but in the uk you don’t need 180mm travel Ebike’s.

I think this was done to keep the dreads sales up, as most of the purchases from mk1 where CorE. The druid has now basically become the Lite version which was the least popular.

Mine landed yesterday at the LBS.

Would love to hear more people’s ride impressions as more of these get out. I have a Druid core and am waiting to get my hands on a dready but am wondering just how different they are.

I have both. They are very different beasts. The Druid is a very capable bike, and in the builds they did (Zebs / Vivid) it’s probably enough bike for nearly all situations, although it kind of didn’t make sense in the space it sat, with the bikes it had.

Having now ridden the Dreadnought a bit, it makes sense they have now ‘specced down’ the Druid to a smaller fork & lighter air shock, as there would be a bit of a blurred line if you were comparing them sat next to each other.

The Druid is a fast bike, I hopped on it & was immediately up to speed, and went faster on it than every other bike I had ridden, it just wanted to keep going. It had been a while since I had been on a bike that felt so well balanced.

Then I got on the Dreadnought, went out for a shakedown ride & ended up going faster again - I’ve never ridden a bike that has encouraged me to go into things as fast as this does & it doesn’t feel like it’s on the limit. It just makes you want to pull for nasty gaps & test your bottle by not braking into sections. It really is a machine.

However, it’s a big bike & a lot of travel. I think a bit like the launch Q&A with Forbidden, you need to ask yourself if you really have the terrain or desire to ride it that way, and even still I’d say the Druid may still be the better choice overall if you just had the one bike…

Thank you for that write up! I had my Druid spec’d with a zeb and vivid coil. It’s definitely a beast and can handle everything I’ve thrown at it. With that said, I’ve also felt like it would be better spec’d in a lighter configuration. Ideally with a 600wh battery and the lighter suspension components.

I live and ride in so cal and mainly ride aliso. The core can ride it but I do find myself looking for more suspension at times which has led me to wanting the dready.

Thanks for this hobnob! like yourself i got on druid and it was just spot on for me. I love how the dread looks in the red but the type of trails it would excell on i visit maybe once a month. Awesome you got both, main question is are you keeping both?

Yep will be keeping the Druid as my other half mostly rides that & I just steal it as & when I feel like it.

Can anyone comment about the installed ridewrap? I am considering getting the ridewrap to cover the whole frame but I am unsure if I want to remove the already installed ridewrap parts oder get just the supplementary kit. Thanks!

I was wondering this also but from the pics I could see, looks like it was only really on chain/seat stays to avoid heel rub? I’ve ordered the invisiframe kit for when mine EVENTUALLY arrives.

I'm picking up the bike on saturday, and have a ride wrap full coverage kit in hand, I'll let you know how it goes.

I got my eDN a few days ago. mine has a big piece on the downtube, on seatstay and chainstay "arch" (where stuff in the tire knobs would rub), outside of chainstays (heel rub). I think that's it?

I put the "RideWrap Covered Dual Suspension eMTB Frame Protection Kit" on - top of top tube, front/sides of head tube (maybe unnecessary lol), back of the motor housing (crap gets flung there on my eDruid - tricky to custom-cut but doable with tracing), back of seat tube, and on the seat stays so the fender straps can attach and not rub their way thru the frame. the pieces required minor cutting w/ scissors.

bike feels great, I am hoping to have my first real ride tmrw. have only puttered around on pavement while setting it up.

What size? can you get a weigh in? Want to know if the pinkbike post is accurate.

just weighed it and got 54.6lb. it's an S2.

things different from stock:
- pedals
- Schwalbe Gravity casing tires
- carbon bar
- non stock alu stem
- RevGrips
- 220mm front rotor
- rear fender
- bottle cage
- Granite Stash instead of star nut (tho without the tool in it at weigh-time. holding space until I put the Rimpact TMD in)

steerer is also uncut from the box length.

Did a rough calculation - seems like the numbers provided from PB article is pretty close.

I'm trying to target a 48 lbs T4 S3 600wh bike.

nice, good luck w the build! 48lbs would be nice. I'm likely to diverge in the other direction and make the eDread heavier with a dual crown 😅

just curious - what locations are you finding your weight savings in?
