Pic of the Day

You might not think that this pic has anything to do with mountain biking, but the freekin sun is no where to be seen and with 50kph gusts and a real feel of -4000 degrees C (that's what my frozen brain thermometer says it is anyway). After the gym and climbing I'm preparing my core for the ride back. Don't worry I plan to rehydrate with a nice cold beer before I set off back into the wind and rain.

I've also decided to not drink alcohol for the last 40 days, but fear it might be a decision made too late.

Let's declare it international not a mountain bike pic of the day, and no, we don't want to see @Just gan solely in his thigh length rubber boots. (If any one does, pm him, I'm sure he'll oblige)

Having spent the last 30 mins ( at least ) writing & posting pics only for the whole lot to disappear ..fkit ..I cant be arsed to start again ..
But I had a great ride 😊
Then when you decide you don't want to post something it won't go away. That prick Greg has got a lot to answer for. I spent hours a couple days ago setting up OsmAnd app with the help of AI more bother than it was worth.

It's amazing how many sexual warnings are posted on beer cans these days.

Don't have sex with fat drunk chicks or weird looking drunk blokes with dodgy poney tails.

Don't have sex in a car , well yeah, you'll spill your beer !

Make sure you're sexual partner is at least 18 years old.

If only Epstein's mates had drunk Guinness.

Stunning day here in Derbyshire, even if a bit too breezy (like a bloody gale if riding into it). My wrist still isn't 100% (carpal) but the Ergon GA3's are definitely an improvement over the Deathgrips for wrist comfort. Anyway had a ride up to Spout and the Alport Stone (above Belper and Ambergate) and on that side of the hill zero breeze. Spotted an old coaching milestone with Ashborn (Ashbourne) one side and Darby (Derby) on t'other (I love those old milestones). Great views from up there, even the gorse bushes looked pretty, until you brush past them, bastard's.

One reason I love these pics of English countryside is that they show that there were vibrant essentially decentralised cultures pre-dating both the Roman and (particularly) Norman invasions which both tried to centralise power. That tug-of-war between decentralised and centralised power exists to this day.

interesting how they just basically lost the name and became Celts - rather than just disappearing off the face of the Earth like the old history books said...

Gorse Flowers smell of coconut oil this time of year.

There's a lot of gorse in the South Downs near Charlton where we sometimes ride and there are sometimes huge numbers of butterflies on and around the gorse which we thought were Red Admirals but they're not, they're actually Painted Ladies. When they're small/young they sit on the warm rock chippings sun bathing then rise up in a dense cloud as you cycle by and through them.

Gorse is good for stopping robbers.

I used to cycle on Canford Heath decades ago, there was one downhill where I OTB'd (on more than one occasion) and found myself stranded on top of a sea of Gorse a long way from the trail. Not a pleasant situation to be in - it stings for days after...

They burn good. We always lit them at Easter in 60s . Fire engine didn't come out in those days just let them burn out.

Is that how you found out they smell of coconut?🤣

What's with the lack of bike pictures...

Following on from our.sex training whilst drinking theme, you can see the French generally don't care who you shag, with only dodgy drunk pony tail fat bloke/drunk woman warning.

Yet another reason why HS2 (high speed rail line) is costing so much . Not the best photo, but this a bridge that goes over the new railway. The width of the bridge is the distance between the two concrete walls , approx 20 metres. Although wide enough to carry a major road, all this bridge will carry is a bridleway (a right of way for walkers, cyclists, and horses… no vehicles allowed) so the heaviest load this bridge will ever take is a horse and it’s rider. A metal footbridge would have done the same job at a fraction of the cost. The second picture is a 1600 ton bridge that they slid over the canal to take the new railway . And yes, that’s my bike….i cleaned it😇

Another great day in Derbyshire (again not in the Peak District). Didn't take many pics but found some great bridleways and an old sundial at Carsington church that says reedified 1648 (so English Civil War, Oliver Cromwell and Roundheads era.....and Vincent Price as the Witchfinder General 😃), with the sundial probably being much older than the 'Reedified' date (i.e. restored). Trig point on Madge Hill (299m) near Kniveton. The 'lake' in the third pic is Carsington Water (a reservoir) which you can cycle round (I did about half of it, it's nothing special) taken from Madge Hill. Yesterday I was on the opposite side, about 10 mile or so away on the (just visible) far skyline.

In Germany there are in some areas wide bridges crossing the Autobahn that are mainly build for deer etc to cross. Maybe the same here?

Yes, wildlife will be able to use it, but it’s just the scale of the thing. For context, the bridleway that crosses it follows the path of a disused railway line that has been reclaimed by nature. In the summer it is basically singletrack and approaching from either direction you have foilage brushing your shoulders as you ride through . Then you emerge from the undergrowth and there it is! It must be similar to emerging from an Amazonian rainforest and seeing an Aztec temple for the first time. Or not 😀.

Today on international sex education via beer bottles.

I'm struggling to work out what they're trying to tell you.

They seem to have the usual avoid pony tail dudes and drunk chicks.

Then they seem to suggest using at least there different positions and changing regularly, Good advice,.avoids cramping and over excursion of certain muscles.

Interestingly, you get 10c back for the bottle in Australia or new Zealand so I'll be keeping my empties and taking them with me next time.
