I'm sick of smashing derraileurs. I'll be all in on a mgu when they can get them to 23kg with a 600wh battery and 180mm of travel with an enduro build.
@Rob Rides EMTB
Sorry for putting you in the spotlight and in an uncomfortable position. I know these are two completely different categories of bikes, but now that you’ve had the rare chance to ride the Crestline RS 181.2, would you still stand by your opinion of the Nicolai S16 suspension?
"It is the best suspension feeling out of any bike I have ever ridden."
Also, having ridden so many top bikes in recent years, which one stands out to you as the best overall package?
I’m with you — I’m sick of smashing derailleurs too. But I’d rather see shifting handled through software than go full MGU. A single-speed setup with the motor doing the shifting logic would be way more appealing to me.I'm sick of smashing derraileurs. Even a short cage 9/10 speed, with electronic shifting to avinox motor would be a good start. Giving loads more ground clearance and less weight in the rear.I’m with you — I’m sick of smashing derailleurs too. But I’d rather see shifting handled through software than go full MGU. Curious to hear your thoughts on and if you’d test the XX DH Transmission group set?Even a short cage 9/10 speed, with electronic shifting to avinox motor would be a good start. Giving loads more ground clearance and less weight in the rear.
Would be great to have a mid-length derailleur cage option. I've read the short cage on the DH AXS doesn't fit the regular derailleur, so that leaves aftermarket options. There are 3 or 4 companies making replacement cages, but none of them have a focus on being shorter. I plan to run a 9-46 cassette, so pretty sure I could get away with something shorter than how SRAM delivers it for a 10-52.Even a short cage 9/10 speed, with electronic shifting to avinox motor would be a good start. In other words, kind of like what EV cars like a Tesla/Rivian does now? - basically a fixed transmission and really on motor with a wide-band torque range, which implies a high rev range. It would require a different pedigree of motor, though Rivian is currently working on this for e-bikes. But unlike EVs, you have human power input deal with, so you either need a transmission that combines the power sources (hybrid transmission is best here) or a separate human power from motor power (i.e. pedal-by-wire). Either way, I'm there with you.I’m with you — I’m sick of smashing derailleurs too. But I’d rather see shifting handled through software than go full MGU. transmission has nothing, no limit screws, no b screw. all based on exact position of its systems. therefore, you can't have other type cassettes that are not exactly spaced the same (as is the new garbaruk). someone would need to make a custom cassette and a custom cage for this system to make it work with smaller cassettes, but still needs to be 12 speedUnfortunately spacing of the Transmission derailleur is specific to transmission cassettes.
The closest you'll get is cutting off the 1st gear to make it an 11sp and then using the low limit screw (did transmission even have a limit screw?) to prevent it from trying to shift in to 1st gear.
That’s weird, my 181.2 has 2 cable tubes in the down tube and 2 more in the seat tube that go to the top tube.
Interesting…..
Doesnt the 700wh give more room in the downtube though? Seems odd to leave it out on rh3/4. It’s round battery so I’d think it wouldn’t be a problem having the 2 in the downtube as the battery will just be biggest in the midline. So if you can have one on the left of midline why can’t you have the other side as well? Pretty interesting. I’d love to hear the reason for that and if it’s because of the 700whSize RH2 for Plaid has 2 in the downtube and 2 in the top tube. Pretty sure RH3 and 4 do not so it can fit a round 700wh battery.
The 700wh has vertically higher than the 800/600wh. So it makes sense that Crestline had make room for the the taller 700wh. Can't put two 700's side-by-side because then it would be far too wide than the 800/600 cavity would allow. Only one column makes sense with the 700 cell form factor.Doesnt the 700wh give more room in the downtube though? Seems odd to leave it out on rh3/4. maybe I wasn’t making sense. The 700wh is vertically higher in the center (it’s a tube). But the cable routing guides are offset from center. So if there can be one cable guide why can’t there be the other? Like right and left of center. The single cable guide isn’t dead center. But idk could def be something with the battery that I’m not gettingThe 700wh has vertically higher than the 800/600wh. So it makes sense that Crestline had make room for the the taller 700wh. Would the SRAM 7 speed T-Type downhill derailleur and cassette work with a small chain ring? I see a lot of advantages if you can get the proper range of gears. I am currently on a Wild with Gen 4 Bosch and never use gears 1-3. I think the power and sensors of the Avinox motor with the right range of 7 gears could work.Even a short cage 9/10 speed, with electronic shifting to avinox motor would be a good start. In case this wasnt mentioned, there are two guide tubes running through the top tube and pop out right in front of the motor. I ran my brake cable through it in 5 minutes. You could run a dropper cable through the other and then you can hot swap batteries without issue.My RH3 does not. It’s very annoying seems a bit cheap.
Every time I hear someone say they want to "hot swap" a bike's battery, I wonder if they understand what hot swapping means. You might be 'fast swapping' but you're not hot swapping. The bike isn't staying on while swapping batteries.
I truly think that’s why people use the term; and why I think a tiny bit less of those using it.Let's be honest Hot Swapping just sounds cooler.
This is true, it's an IT term, for hot swapping hard drives and power supplies on servers etc.Every time I hear someone say they want to "hot swap" a bike's battery, I wonder if they understand what hot swapping means. Sorted !Finally mine has arrived !
Trying to get the motor cover off but seems to be jammed on the right side!?![]()
