We have a very small whatsapp group of riders based in the North who occaisionally come together for a ride.. Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Co.Durham ,Northumberland & Scotland are all represented at some point when the stars align ..in essence we dont live in each others pockets but when we do get together it usually ends up being a fantastic day ..yesterday was such a day on a ride out of Staveley in the Southern Lake District .
Having learnt en-route that Wheelbase were having a demo -day the fear was that parking might well become an issue ..but additional parking had been negotiated for the event and four of the six of us managed to bag a free spot in an adjacent builders yard ..😁.
A pre-ride cuppa & bacon buttie in Wilfs cafe ( cheers Tony) had me bowing to Dave & Robs superior trail knowledge and an improvement to the route that I'd planned was made which turned out to be an inspired choice ( cheers lads) .
Blue skies, 15c and hardly a breeze contributed to near perfect riding conditions ..although ground conditions in places were soggy as a spot of bog snorkling had me soaked for a while ..
A special mention to Rob who cleared Garburn Pass ..I couldnt verify this myself as it was way beyond my skill set ..and he probably had a lengthy wait at the bottom before( being the last man down) I joined him 😯
I've seen better pics than mine from the other lads ..but these will give you a flavour ...View attachment 179955

My thanks to Ant , Dave, Drew, Rob & Tony .. for a brilliant day !
...tempered only by the fact that my usual sidekick wasnt there to enjoy it with us .
@The EMF ( Wayne) will be out of action for a little while yet after a severe otb in N.Yorks about a fortnight ago while riding with Dave & Rob ..
The worst of which being six broken ribs which kept him in hospital for a week while decent drugs & oxygen helped with pain management ..
We are all wishing him a speedy recovery his craic & company sorely ( no pun intended) missed..but in true Arnie style ..he will be back !

Any more info on how EMF came to grief? Sounds horrendous. Perhaps he will describe it for us when he feels better.

He's dealing with it very well ..tough as old boots and he was in good spirits when I visited on Friday ..but the details I will leave to Wayne if he ever feels inclined 😉

Right enough it was pic of High pressure he sent me yesterday. I think he was there on Friday ? got a pic of the spiral staircase at Kirkhill. Said he never crashed not sure I believe that one though.

I think he goes to Kirkhill during the week and Tarland at the weekend.

I'm happy to show you around Kirkhill some time if you want. It's usually a weekend afternoon trip for me due to kids/family stuff.

First ride with summer tires ❤️ Put new T9 Gravity Butchers on, holy shit what a traction! Great tires.

Thanks , Sunday is usually my only weekend riding day I get enough during weekdays. Off to Skye Friday so provided I get freehub back I would take bike and do something enroute or on way back.

It's always nice just to get out for a bit.
Bit of a hectic weekend, but found time for a couple of hours on my own in the forest and had a great time tootling about like an old man on a holiday.

Sweet pic. How does the half spokeless Sbarro wheel ride in the wild ?

After skiing on the last bit of snow near Lake Tahoe I rode over to California’s Donner State Park. Here’s a pic of the Memorial to the pioneer settlers traveling across the country by wagon trains who were trapped on the east side of the Sierra by early and heavy snowstorms in the winter of 1846-1847. Tragically about 40 people (almost half of several families including the Donner group) froze or starved to death.

The height of the pedestal (22 ft) represents the depth of the snow believed to have accumulated that winter. (That’s not a toy bike model. It’s a size Large 29er.) The snow depth is often about a third that high even in March, but this year less snow and record warm temperatures has led to what’s being called “The Great Melt-off” and is raising concerns about water for California and Nevada.

Following on from @The Hodge 's documentary earlier about the EMTB Forum Geriatrics Section group ride out around Staveley, Kentmere and Garsdale, here's a few additional pics...

Tried out my new 7idp Sam Hill knee guards today. A little warm but no chafing. Level 2 protection but fortunately I didn’t test that today.

Best kneepads ever! I'm on my second set and least year I stuffed my left knee into a boulder sticking out of a bank while riding my dual sport motorcycle and sustained no damage! It stung but I was able to walk it off!

I don’t mind my mud/rock guards. They are permanent. I think they almost look like they came with the frame. Also more for rocks in summer. Rocks really beat up the frame at speed. Front guard is almost invisible only protects the SWAT tool and my face in riding position. Luckily there’s a phat Levo down tube in between my legs to catch 50-56% of the slop🤣

I‘m usually using a smaller, permanent rear guard for rocks etc as well. But for muddy winter condition the ugly one is much better.

How is your rear mud/rock guard mounted?

Just thought I’d add this pic in reply to my post above to emphasize that we are having very warm conditions in the western US. (Apologies for the lack of any e-bikes but didn’t think you’d notice anyway.)

That’s better than looking at pictures of Hodge and his cronies!
