Pic of the Day

I know I posted this pic before, but the same spot is worse now.

I won’t be as foolish though.
I’m adding water-wings to my daily ride. 😉
Good pictures should be posted every 6 months at least. As many as you like. This is my only social media platform so no guilt felt for the many pictures I post.

Sadly no pic from me. But seeing that watersplash reminded me. On Sunday I was riding along a long and old-established sand ridge, much used by motor bikes. The Gorse bushes were close in and above my head. The trail was about 8 feet wide, reduced by the overhanging gorse. The trail had multiple water-filled hollows, which was surprising given it was all sat on sand. One water hollow was a particularly long one. I couldn't tell how deep the water was, but it looked vey murky. I could see the bottom near the edges, but the gorse stopped me riding along the edges. I got as close as I could on the right-hand side, but I got too close and caught the bars! My left foot went into the water. I counted myself lucky that it wasn't all of me! But the water came half way up my shin and I could feel the mud squelching around my boot. I'm glad that I was wearing my waterproof socks. :)
Because I was riding someone else's bike I chose to lift the bike to keep the motor out of the water. To do that I had to put my other foot in the water and wade out carrying the bike! Still feeling lucky though, it could have been much worse! :)

The mud was a greyish white when it dried, must have been the coal slag under the sand.

SURPRISE! Fun isn’t it?
A few times my EMTB acted like a submarine. (That would include my underwear ).
Funny though …no water ingress to the motor after all these years.

Btw Steve …don’t sell your bike. Upgrade it. 👍🏻

With what? It's already top spec everything that that I want. I have no desire for carbon rims or bars. If I could waive a magic wand and get a more powerful motor and a bigger battery I might change my mind. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the bike as it stands, I just want a new one!

I had aimed at a Santa Cruz Vala 90, but there are other bikes out there. I'll start looking. Something may catch my eye.

Had a spectator on Red Mountain Rush this morning. Added a video clip so you can hear the rattlesnake cheer me on as I pass.

Playing his tiny maracas!

The best way to avoid snakes is to ride in the afternoon heat, of course, it's not the best way to avoid heat stroke so...I guess tiny maracas are the better alternative.

Not sure where Arizona is ?. My visits to US is limited to Mobile , New Orleans , Providence and Block Island . All work related.
Never been to Block Island, but Providence RI and New Orleans LA are both places with great food!
Revival Craft Kitchen in Providence is just spectacular. IMG_2236.webp

Providence and block island during covid never got off ship yet. To rub salt in wound 5 days in Bermuda not aloud off again ,remember it well. Sailed home to Falmouth in UK then retired.

My daughter is in culinary school at Johnson and Wales in Providence. There are some great restaurants. Love to visit there. Just can’t sleep through the wheelie gangs when we visit. They are so loud at night. Groups on dirt bikes wheelin around. I’m a rider. But not at night….

Great weekend on the Centenary Trail in our nations capital Canberra.

We have a very small whatsapp group of riders based in the North who occaisionally come together for a ride.. Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Co.Durham ,Northumberland & Scotland are all represented at some point when the stars align ..in essence we dont live in each others pockets but when we do get together it usually ends up being a fantastic day ..yesterday was such a day on a ride out of Staveley in the Southern Lake District .
Having learnt en-route that Wheelbase were having a demo -day the fear was that parking might well become an issue ..but additional parking had been negotiated for the event and four of the six of us managed to bag a free spot in an adjacent builders yard ..😁.
A pre-ride cuppa & bacon buttie in Wilfs cafe ( cheers Tony) had me bowing to Dave & Robs superior trail knowledge and an improvement to the route that I'd planned was made which turned out to be an inspired choice ( cheers lads) .
Blue skies, 15c and hardly a breeze contributed to near perfect riding conditions ..although ground conditions in places were soggy as a spot of bog snorkling had me soaked for a while ..
A special mention to Rob who cleared Garburn Pass ..I couldnt verify this myself as it was way beyond my skill set ..and he probably had a lengthy wait at the bottom before( being the last man down) I joined him 😯
I've seen better pics than mine from the other lads ..but these will give you a flavour ...

My thanks to Ant , Dave, Drew, Rob & Tony .. for a brilliant day !
...tempered only by the fact that my usual sidekick wasnt there to enjoy it with us .
@The EMF ( Wayne) will be out of action for a little while yet after a severe otb in N.Yorks about a fortnight ago while riding with Dave & Rob ..
The worst of which being six broken ribs which kept him in hospital for a week while decent drugs & oxygen helped with pain management ..
We are all wishing him a speedy recovery his craic & company sorely ( no pun intended) missed..but in true Arnie style ..he will be back !
