Between the less than stellar recation and Brose being bought by Yamaha I think Specialized will cut their losses on this platform long before 2029. I think they will have to bring something new in 2027.
Specialized doesn't use Brose motors anymore.

What’s wrong with this motor?
It’s a little porky but possibly over engineered. I’d rather have porky and reliable tuan to light and things break.

I’d be curious to know how many motors have blown with this design (yes there will be) but % wise of sales. Every motor has failures.

It has More than powerful enough.

specialized has a rich racing history. If they want to keep that they can’t get more powerful as UCI has strict rules on power if you want to compete.

I have not seen any Amflows racing UCI sanctioned ebike events? Not here anyways.

As much as would love more power I feel if we continue on this route e-bikes will eventually be banned from trail systems as they start creeping up to mopeds.

So I’d rather keep the trail systems open…. Work harder with my legs and enjoy what we have and not be to power greedy

There's nothing "wrong" with it but it seems somewhat behind the times compared to Avinox. It's big, heavy and "underpowered" with bulky batteries. With al the brands hoping on Avinox this year Specialized will find it increasingly hard in the market with their current offeriing.

I don't think Specialized put a whole of importance on UCI emtb racing tbh. It's pretty irrevelent in the grand scheme of things.

I had a carbon fiber pipe guard on a moto. After first wreck it was a bunch of needles.
I use a UHMW tape on my motor guard. It’s so great. I don’t hear anyone using it. It’s crazy slippery, ultadurable. I can replace as needed.
It really does work great.

do you put that over the existing guards that came on the bike or do you put that over the new guards you get?

Existing. It has already worked. It’s all beat up and my motor cover is safe . I’ll get a pic. You can’t even tell it’s there.

Taken a few big hits.

Thanks for confirming that someone else is experiencing this. Did you try changing your assist modes in a customized way that could get around this? The loop out is easier to control now that I am expecting it, but I still am frustrated at not being able to climb these short steep ups at all, so looking for a different customization in settings to be able to manage it. I think I will try the race preset, "no time to waste" initially. Specialized must be aware of this so maybe they'll come out with a fix eventually.
Try the long setting for your chainstays. I had a similar experience (not the pedal thing, just that the power was greater and the ability to overpower the front end was there. Long Chainstays fixed my issue and made it more manageable.

I really like the long setting. The lowering of the BB is a downside and I definitely get more pedal strikes and BB strikes with it, but I've decided it's worth it.

I agree completely. I don’t like that the BB is lower but the benefits are great enough to put up with it.

I ordered some of this stuff and put it on the top tube and down tube. You can definitely tell it’s there. I’ve already got some battle damage so at this point it’s just to hopefully not make it worse

It is visible on yours. Maybe the bike color? It’s white on mine where it’s peeling. Otherwise it’s fine with me.

I’ve noticed a few People replacing the genie with other shoxs. Is the genie of this new Specialized not one of the wow factors ? Is it not living up to the hype ?

It depends on the use.

For gravity riding, the Cascade Long Shock linkage is much more capable. It makes the Gen4 a preview of the new EVO.

It’sa fine shock. I replaced mine because I long shocked it. Other people just prefer coils. I’d be curious how many people kept the same travel but replaced with a different air shock.

I wouldn’t have replaced the Genie if I stayed on stock travel.
It’s a decent shock. Aggressive riders will reach its limits very quickly. Normal riders shouldn’t mind it once setup properly.
Easy to adjust, easy to add bottom tokens. But to get it to stop bottoming I had to add tokens and psi. This created a situation where I was loosing small bump absorbing, chasing bottom out resistance.
EXT coil with HBO, and 170mm fixed ALL that. My bikes suspension is unworldly dialed. Dreamlike composure, plush without being soft, predictable off the face of jumps. I am 1000% satisfied with Cascade Components and EXT .
But the Genie is a fine shock🤘🏼

Sizing question here: I'm 5'8", 30" inseam so shorter arms and legs. When I plugged in my particulars on Specialized website they recommend an S2. That shows I'm right at the upper edge for that frame.
My only ebike experience is my YT Decoy size large. They told me to size up because of that same issue but I've regretted it ever since. I mostly like to ride technical rocky climbs and decent (never been to a bike park but would like to try it).
Any thoughts or recommendations? FWIW the wheelbase of the S3 is really close to my YT and the S2 pretty much matches my old analog Kona Precept 150. With these heavier ebikes is it better to go little long?
Thanks

I have a Gen 4 Levo in S3.
I am 5-8 with 30 inch inseam too. The reach is little short but I think it is because the seat angle is steeper. I think I could have bought a S4 and that would have been ok. I recommend test riding the various sizes

Like "Ride 2d@y" suggested, you should test ride each if possible. I'm 5'-9" which is on the edge of S3/S4 sizing. I have long arms and inseam (32-1/2") for my height so, the S4 fits me better. The salesman at the store asked my height and then suggested that the S3 should work for my height but given my arms and legs, I should also try the S4 to be sure. For me, the S3 felt "cramped".

5’10 medium dude in every way.

S4 with a short stem
I like a larger cockpit.
Tested S3 and S4
S4 was better for me.
I’d heed the advice repeated above and probably below. Go see….
A quick pedal with both and BOOM ! You’ll know

Hope you're right. So far I've only been able to try out an S3 on a basic fireroad and it felt good but that's a far cry from the technical stuff I want to experience it in. Hard to find any kind of rentals on these. Have located another shop with an S2 so I can at least ride it around the parking lot.

A parking lot test ride was all that I got on the S3 and S4 but it turned out to be enough. I was able to go back and forth between the two sizes a few times which really helped. If possible, try to find a shop that has both of the sizes you're looking at so you can swap back and forth. Good luck.
