Engineers may find a way to keep them quiet as they wear but the solution can’t be something that artificially shortens the life of the gears by applying pressure to keep them from making noise when not under load.

I am an engineer, and that's utter nonsense. Gears bed in, them starting to make noise has nothing to do with bedding in. It's poor quality materials and tolerances. No other motor has this issue. It's a gen motor. It has some issues. They will be improved.

Good news, turns out the small rattle I thought was coming from my Avinox motor was not the motor after all. It was my Fidlock bottle holder, now fixed.

That's why personally any battery improvement above 10% capacity gain and an amflow frame slightly beefed up, with replaceable batteries or a decent range extender and non-trunnion shock would be a bigger deal than anything they could realistically do to the motor.

Now in a dream world I would love to see what power they could get out of a 2kg motor, but an SL doesn't seem to be on the cards.

Seems like DJI is trying to run this like a tech/consumer electronics company instead of a bike company given their release cadence and "consumer electronics" features like a USB-C charge port, fast charge, and battery health. If they want to be Apple of the bike world they're going to introduce improvements that we don't even know we want yet. Active chainring damping (O-Chain that turns itself on/off automatically, or manually), accelerometers to determine if you're going uphill or downhill and adjust the motor accordingly are two ides I could think of off the top of my head. I'm sure DJI's engineers are thinking of tons more than this. I didn't know I wanted a drone that was controlled by hand gestures until DJI made one.
 
I haven’t read the whole thread, but an industry guy just told me Pivot will be releasing another updated ebike with “a very popular” e bike motor around sea otter and it’s not a Bosch unit.

I’m guessing an M2
 
If you're in the market for a Bosch equipped bike it's sounding like there could be some fire sales later in the year 🙃

(not a dig at Bosch's offering at all, just it's going to be a tough market)
 
I said it before; DJI is used to fast product cycles and I don’t see that changing when it comes to EMTB motors. This is why I think Shimano is out, because their culture is 100% the opposite when it comes to product cycles and they have already been dropped by almost every EMTB manufacturer.

Bosch is close but they have ties to other industries which are in a major financial decline (namely German auto) so my guess is R&D vs. ROI weighs heavily on them. Regardless, DJI isn’t going to wait around so Bosch will need to sharpen their pencils.

Very good point.

ZF, another German car parts manufacture, just announced that they have canceled their eMTB motor. Most likely due to car industry issues and not having the capitol to diversify right now.

I admittedly haven't looked into it, but the unit i saw on a video last year seemed to be cool design.

"heavy batteries" isn't really a fair complaint. When compairing batteries of similar capacity, they all weigh about the the same. The only real place to save weight would be the housing material.

nope, they were about the same weight as last gen bosch. and the design sucked, thing was loud af

Maybe. No hints were given. But rumors being what they are, it’s seeming like Avinox is taking over.

I’d love to see one on an Ibis. And HPR 60 would be cool too.

On another Note, photos are flying around Facebook of the new Avinox screen showing 130nm and 1300w of power.

Seems a waste, the m1 was already too much.
Refinement and weight reduction would have been my preference.

I don’t disagree.

Having said that you can always tune it down to the setting you want.


Honestly, when I rode my buddies Transition Relay with the Fazua 60, it felt more than adequate. I’m not sure I’d ever really need more that that.

But I will say, blowing up a fire road at 1300w sounds pretty nice if you’re pressed for time. I don’t think that’s even remotely usable on single track though.
 
There's 3 different screens coming with varying capabilities and power output for lights etc.

Maybe I’m in the minority but the lack of efficiency has me thinking otherwise about this motor. I don’t want to need an 800 battery even when I turn the power down.

To be fair the Avinox rattle varies greatly based on bike, rear hub engagement, terrain, when produced, how worn in, your speed, your hearing, etc. So you can't assume that you're minimal rattle is the same as what everyone else is experiencing.
The Bosch disconnects the gears from the pedals so when functioning properly should never develop rattle.

I have a combined 1,000+ miles (1,600km) on my 2 Bosch Gen5 powered bikes (Crestline S180/2026 Orbea Wild) and have absolutely no noise/rattle coming from the motor.

Stories like this concern me much more. This is from the Unno FB group

"...its Avinox. Very slow on assistance, parts, motor, battery. It seems non existent brand. Imagine your bike is sitting in the shop for more than 2-3 months and still no parts. For Unno it seems they’re ignoring emails, washing their hands when things go wrong because its not their problem specially on the avinox system..."

Mountain biking is an important hobby to me and I only have two bikes total and only one e-bike. Uptime, reliability, support are all super important to me.
I ordered a new Bosch bike.
 
Also have to factor in that Unno are very low volume and possibly are in bad terms with avinox for spoiling the embargo.
