New wheel issue

Hi All, Excuse my lack of knowledge I am new to EMTBs and how they function. I recently got a new Orbea SL Rise which I have been enjoying. As most of my riding is mainly pretty casual the wheels and tyres (Wicked Will) are fine for most applications. However I also got another set of wheels and tyres (DT Swiss bike wheels and Maxxis tyres) for when I need to be more glued to the ground on gnarly terrain. My problem is when I put on my new DT back wheel back wheel. My 'Shimano Steps computer' runs an error code and two red lights flash on and off on the controller also the motor assist does not work correctly. As soon as I stick the original back wheel on the bike everything works fine again! Anyone have any idea of what might be going on?

Ah, I see I told you I knew very little, and indeed I did not even know there was a wheel magnet! Where is this magnet to be found?

It will be held on to the brake rotor on many bikes. Some bikes have it on the tyre valve I believe too.

The magnet basically tells a sensor what speed the wheel is moving and the bike then can provide assistance accordingly.

Many thanks, what a great help! Can you buy magnets for different wheel sets instead of keeping on moving it back and forth?

I have a new Haynes Rotor on the new wheel so hoping I can find something to complement that. However you have given me some brilliant info. Glad it seems quite an easy fix. I will now set off on some research many thanks Money Pit.

if your wheel uses a 6 bolt rotor then its super easy with a bolt on magnet, allows you to use any 6bolt disc rotor
