Hi All,

Me and my son are looking at going to Bike Park Wales next month. Has anyone got any experience on riding up and also queuing for the uplift?

I guess my queries are, if we ride up on the e-bikes, are they going to run out of battery quite quick and therefor finish our day early or have to charge them and lose a couple of hours of riding (my sons battery is a 500wh and mine a 625wh), or, we get the uplift passes and queue.

I’ve seen a few people saying that the queues can be quite bad, even on weekdays, is this still an issue or have they sorted this out by running more uplifts? The dates on the queue time complaints where 3-4 years back.

been twice, once in july once in august, queueing was never any longer than 10 minutes at the worst, loved it, fantastically well run place.....sorry ive never ridden an ebike up/down there for a day.

Thanks for the response. It’s quite a drive for us to get there so just trying to figure out the best plan to get the most out of it
 
We are going on the 17th. Looking forward to it. We did it in one day last year but this time we are staying in Hereford and doing FOD on the 16th which should be a nice warm up. Looking forward to it.
 
Personally i take 2x 700wh to make it worthwhile.
I only ever go midweek, avoiding school holidays etc. The queue has never been an issue if im uplifting.
 
I always go on a week day and never had to queue for long, If you want to make a good day of it and get as many runs as possible in I would use the uplift rather than peddle up, you could be looking at 5000ft plus of climbing.

Thanks. I’ve decided to go on the weekend, what’s that like for the uplift? Also, what’s the deal with getting on the uplift with an e-bike? Are you frowned upon? 😅

Nice. Unfortunately we’ve only got the one battery each so it’s looking like we’ll go for the uplift
 
Was there last Sunday, it was very busy, car park was more or less full when we got there at 9.45. We never had to wait more than a minute to get on the bus, they had loads running and it was a constant process of loading. No complaints at all.

Loading a full fat bike on the trailer is hard work by the end of the day.

I ride Bpw regularly, possibly too regularly and crashed a few times:p

I have the anual eeeeb pedalpass and average 25miles riding if not more in a day (720w battery) but usually put the battery on charge dinnertime (I take & use my bikes charger but the park do own several of the 'common' types)

as to pedalup or uplift - thats your choice🤷‍♂️ plenty of eeeeb's on the uplift and plenty of 'keep-fit' bikes pedalup!
if you pedalup it can be done in about the same time as the uplift (if you push it) but this allows you to easily session sections of the hill and learn trails as opposed to winch&plummet riding.....

also, the park organise uplift busses around a certain number of customers (36 per 16 seat bus iirc?) so have a lot of buses running on busy days as to minimise waiting times - although it usually takes longer to load/unload the trailers especially if people dont load their bikes correctly as the drivers have to chech bike security befort leaving and this can holdups:rolleyes:

got wet there today but something to remember about that hill is the ground has more grip when wet than dry🤷‍♂️
 
I uplifted last time I went. Rode up previously and towards the end of the day I was too tired to concentrate properly on the descent.
It's a bloody long climb to be doing a few times in the day.

i somewhat enjoyed FOD more than BPW, great place.

Never been on a weekend, you won’t be frowned upon, loads of e-bikes there and no one else cares what people ride, all just having fun. I spoke to a woman on the uplift with a step through shopping bike in jeans and a jumper, she was loving it, said she was working through her bucket list.

I dont mind tbh, I'm not really a jumper but i do like drops and a little tech (Peaks, Blackrocks, Cannock) are my local ride spots.

Thanks for the response. Really looking forward to it.

I’ve booked the uplift to save riding up, although I think we’ll do some pedalling to some of the lower down trails to warm up

Perfect, do I need to bring some sort of proof for date of birth? My sons on an e-bike and there’s an minimum age of 14 so I’m wondering whether/what to bring if they require proof

Ride the official DH trails of you’ve not done them, then maybe head down the valley to the off piste above the stoneworks

Only by really unfit people who feel like they're dying pushing DH bikes up the uplift queue (me!) 😅.

Nope, I regularly see kids who are clearly under 14 riding ebikes there.
 
I've only been the once on my ebike and pedalled up. I only managed 3 runs before running out of energy, not battery. The trails are fantastic without a doubt and very long but the fee for an ebike is a little off putting IMO. I live 20 minutes from FOD and much prefer it for a number of reasons but then at 77 years old I'm not a "hardcore" rider.

How much is day entry for FOD?

If you like drops and tech BPW is right up your street. Not much particularly steep but lots of tech starting at easy red and working its way up.
 
Was there on Sunday with my Non E (Giga), don't think i had to que for uplift for more than 5 mins.
The uplift is even quicker now they have made a shortcut up the hill for the buses.

Unfortunately my day ended on a big crash on A470 on one of the bottom tabletops, i managed to overshoot and went straight over the bars on landing!

I landed head first, and the TLD helmet did a very good job, as no head injuries. But managed to break my right hand pinkie, and dis-align my left collar bone.
But the Giga was undamaged!

Bloody hell, that looks nasty. My son literally done that same thing a couple of months ago. Torn a ligament and fractured a bone. His helmet was damaged in exactly same place as yours, just didn’t crack. Had a huge dent in it covering about two thirds of the helmet and a sharp edge dent within the larger one. Any lower on his face and I dread to think of the worst outcome. I have just ordered him a full face helmet due to that and coming to BPW.

Was that a d4? Broke a Stage on Sixtapod a couple of years back, lost the front wheel off the top of a berm and superman’s onto my chin.

Full face is a must for bpw. Or dental insurance.
