• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Giant Yamaha PW-X3 tuning

@goroncy - if I understand the information on the vendor site correctly, the VOLspeed needs to be activated each and every time when the bike is powered on. Can you confirm?

I do confirm. And you can make your own combination of keys. I did. In case anybody stops you just power off the bike. After turning it on again it will work as the stock one.

Thx! I see the advantage behind it, but since I often have smaller breaks on my tours where the bike automatically switches off itself I find it a bit inconvenient for me. It would be cool if one could set the timeout in the Giant App ;-)

I agree, it’s a PITA to constantly turn the unit on every time the bike is turned off. It would be better if a code was used just to disengage it rather than the other way around. Retaining the settings even on power off would be way more convenient.

Absolutely. The chip doesn't change a thing in the settings. Until you cast a spell (magic key combination) the chip just sits there and transmits the signal in unchanged form. When you switch it on all the tuning settings still apply. The only thing that was so so is that after I installed the chip all the settings were reverted to factory settings. 30 second later I had my settings back.
Are you still using the Volspeed and does it still work ok with the latest Yamaha Firmware with the Updates to the Power profiles ? Do you update the Firmware with the Volspeed in place or do you have to remove it ?

I am still using Vollspeed. I didn't upgrade giant's software for a long time now (a year?). One. There is no need. Two. Rumors were enough for me not to upgrade. I don't want to brick the bike. Everything works. And going above 25kmh is absolutely my priority. So updating the software now doesn't seem to make any sense.

Yep. I'm using Garmin edge and sometimes just the watch. When I press the special key combo to turn on the tuning chip maximum speed appears on the display to show that chip is on. Then you have couple of seconds to change the max speed. It's in the Vollspeed manual. Before switching on the chip your Garmin has to be connected with the bicycle.

Thank you That will help, I have read the manual talks about RideControl App but did not see other bluetooth devices mentioned. Thanks again.

On VOLspeed page there is no chart but they clearly say above which version the dongle stops to work:

is there any way to check what version software i have without using the app?

No there isn't.
But you can use the app without doing the Updates.
Just connect the Bike in the App and then swith to Airplane mode with BT on and now open the Bike settings in the App

Hi, has anyone found a working tuning unit for the latest software? I would like to update the software because i have problems with battery charging.

Hi there, Speedbox have recently launched their 3.3 Giant for Syncdrive Pro2 (85nm) and Sport (75nm). Feel free to send us a message in a few weeks/months to see how performance and reliability has been.

PLANET3 still works with almost all Giant e-bikes that are physically compatible (hub and spacing) and since you guys are mostly OK with ~35 km/h as the speed limit, then the 38 km/h that the dual planet configuration of the PLANET3 for Giant provides should be sufficient. One user tried riding a single planet config (3:1 ratio) and got the 6A error within 2 days resulting in a motor lock, so please heed the warning that comes with the device - it's mandatory to use a dual planet config with a 1,5:1 ratio.

More info at PLANET3 for Giant e-bikes.

I checked on www of both companies: speedbox and volspeed. Both say NOT to update the ebike's software and that both devices are not compatible with the newest software. I stopped updating and using ride control app before the made this recommendation so my chip still works. But the fact that they are not able to bypass the software for 2 years now is a big bummer. I would not buy this E-Bike without ability to tune it. 25kmh in EU is just not enough.

I felt like getting a bike chip, I have updated to the latest firmware version.

Peartune claims that their chip works without any problems, regardless of the firmware version. I know one user who has it, but I don't know what firmware version he has in his bike - he claims that it works.

Speedbox version 3.3 has also appeared, but here on the forum in the threads you can read that the motor appears to be damaged, even though it still works, as far as I understand.

I don't know what to do, I don't want to cheat the magnet - I care about real readings. Does anyone know how to solve this or maybe has a Peartune?
