Hows everyone getting on with their New AMflow

I for one (Aussie) am enjoying the fallout and tantrum throwing that comes from the US exceptionalism mindset.
Amflow: “America, you can’t have this bike because of reasons”
US-MAGA-Person: “We didn’t want it anyway, it’s a crap bike made in a third world country and we’re the best, we only buy Freedom Bikes (please let me buy one)”
I’m a maga person? IOI , I could not be farther from it. I have had experience with Chinese manufacturers though. My old job required me to travel to China and set up production lines. I have worked with both mainland China and Taiwan. I have seen in person the old apple factory where they had to string up nets around the buildings to prevent people from killing them selves. In China they have so many laws that there is no way you can’t brake them, this allows the government to jail anyone anywhere anytime. People are required to get a job and hold a job. They do not give a crap anything except staying out of jail. As for my dislike of newer house hold items, please look up “Planned obsolescence”, most items are designed to fail these days. My neighbor bought a shiny new dryer with a 5 year warranty, the heating element lasted 62 months. You think that was just bad luck? Planned obsolescence built into most corporate house hold products these days….. knowing is half the battle.

As a non-maga citizen of the bluest state in the union, living in the most liberal part of that state with its diverse population and the world’s 5th largest economy we must be doing something right.
As home to many popular bike brands (Specialized, Santa Cruz, Ibis, Crestline) and a claim to the origin of mountain biking we have an inclusive bike community and great trail networks to share, so speaking for myself I think I’ll stick to get back to the purpose of this forum.
 

Looks like the paint is an issue so wrap it before you ride it. The screen came back on after he changed it so I guess he just had to turn it off and on again.

I just picked up the carbon PL, the bike is decent but the dropper is a piece of shit. I don't know if it's just the lever or the lever and dropper but it's stiff and feels terrible to use

I just picked up the carbon PL, the bike is decent but the dropper is a piece of shit. I don't know if it's just the lever or the lever and dropper but it's stiff and feels terrible to use

Thanks for the follow up but I don't believe it's faulty. Just horrible to use, the lever feel is not smooth and requires more force than I am used too. Over time I will become accustomed to it I guess.

We all know Ockers are closet Kiwi's and spend their whole lives wondering what it's like to go in the bush without something trying to kill you.
Seriously. How do you do it? I don't know if I could actually ride in Oz...with all the danger noodles, bitey bugs and drop bears, I'd be spending more time watching the surroundings and less time actually riding.

I have a similar problem with my bike also.
It's working fine but definitely has some friction and squeaking when you turn the cranks, sounds like a rubber or plasticy squeak

Hi johno1, to address the noise issue you're experiencing when turning the crank, let's first determine if the motor is the source. We recommend you turn off the drive system, lift the rear wheel, remove the chain, and then give the crank a spin.

a. If the noise is still there, it could be the friction from the one-way or needle bearings in the power assist unit (try riding for 200-300 kilometers to see if it improves) or the crank might be rubbing against the motor casing, so please check for any bending of the parts.

b. If there's no noise, it might be the front wheel brake touching the disc or the chain guard rubbing, which would need some adjustment.

Background - I have owned or ridden every system on the market, (and 1 not on the market yet) over the last 8 years. My Most recent bike, has the bosch (delimited.)

After a 2 month wait, I got an AMflow PL about a week ago, and I've ridden it almost everyday since, have about 100 miles on it.

Performance: I read somewhere, I think Pinkbike, that a trek (with inferior motor and battery), got "bike of the year" - I laughed, ...what a joke. In my opinion - The AMFLOW is not only the bike of the year, its the bike of the decade.

The performance of this bike is absolutely insane, in terms of power, but also in terms of control. The motor output based on rider input, is super impressive, especially when climbing. When hitting the 20 mph limit, it doesn't just cut out, rather it smoothly lets you off, while maintaining some support at the 20 mph mark. Regardless, the control (motor controller) is in a class of it's own. I would have thought they would use sensorless FOC control (like drones) but with the encoder on the back wheel, and maybe there are halls on the motor, not sure, - anyway I suspect its sensored closed loop control, and it is excellent.

Acceleration is nothing short of awesome.

Range: I have been getting a consistent 17 miles riding 100% on turbo (with 8% left in the battery), cross country super technical terrain.
I haven't tried trail mode only for an entire ride, to see what range I get, (turbo is too much fun.) ..but plan to.
With a mix of trail and turbo, mostly turbo, I got about 20 miles.
(note I have the modes all tuned for max power on the app)

The boost mode is wonderful, but hard to find a place to use in tight singletrack or technical, unless hitting a big hill.

Technology - the app, the touchscreen, etc - is also super nice and just superior to anything else. For any that understand motor and gear technology, the dual planetary with helical stage (that's for noise), offset to the spur, is super smart. IT looks like (from the website pictures) only the helical stage is plastic, but its larger than the other stages, so should be strong compared to the metal stages, (but it also depends on what kind of plastic they used.) Time will tell for reliability.

Getting back on a bosch feels like I stepped out of a 2025 Ferrari, and into a 1980's ford focus. There is no comparison really.

Initially I thought I might be disappointed with the travel @ 160 mm front, and 150 mm back, but this bike really handles fantastically from 0 - 20 mph and with most hits. ITs not a downhill bike, but not far from the feel if an enduro bike. I will probably upgrade to a 170mm Fox 38 up front eventually, but super happy with the 36 on this bike, in general.


Not a bike for beginners, however if you are technically skilled, and like to ride Olympic level Fast, both uphill and down, this bike simply rides like no other.

Overall, this is the ebike of my dreams - I absolutely love it, awesome job DJI.

This post has made me extremely jealous. And questining my recent purchase decision 😞😬

I may see if I can get a deal when the V2 releases inevitably later this year or the discounts start however while DJI is far from perfect they seem to have really delivered something a step ahead in how it delivers the power.

How did you get the Amflow, in the USA? Thanks.

Regarding the bike of the year comment: some riders prioritize the motor and others prioritize the chassis. I fall into the chassis camp myself. That said, I intend to order the E-Druid the day it's available for order with the DJI, based on what I know about that brand and the bike they are releasing, and of course the world class motor system.
 
Its not at all, difficult to handle, ...if you are a reasonably skilled rider, its dreamy. Once you get a feel for it, after the first few miles, how controllable the power is, is really one of the most impressive parts of the bike to me, (outside of the torque and accel speed). It is noticeably different.

The motor really shines and puts out, with higher cadence. But if you are on a super steep hill, in a low gear with tons of torque...the motor won't spin out like you would think,... its hard to describe...it just gives you exactly what you give it, and what you need. Pulling a wheelie...and you'd think it would be hard to control, & throw you right over backwards...but it doesn't (of course, it will if you try). I've been riding in all wet / rain conditions so far, can't wait to try it on a dry day.

With the power, however,...I was just saying for an unskilled rider, it could be dangerous, ...but that's what makes it so much fun for me, and for those that have the skill, to ride this machine.

In the eco mode, its super tame.
 
Yeah, of course, "Bike of the decade" is just my personal opinion. Blows away an ebike I have ever ridden.

ITs only for sale in the UK, AUS, China, and Germany (I think)...maybe Canada? Not sure.

I bought mine in China, and had it shipped, took about 2 months.
 
Sound like a bit of gambling importing a bike without any local support if/when something is going wrong.
Hopefully it's soon available in US with adequate support.
 
Pretty sure dji will not come to the USA with China’s new sanctions. Also pretty sure the bike exceeds class 1 status.

It was a total gamble here in the US, glad I got it this year. Especially because I couldn't try one before buying, and I got the Pro, so it was a big chunk of $$$. A good friend of mine who lives in Europe, got one in Germany, and told me about it, so I had some sense of what to expect. It exceeded my expectations however.

I thought about that ... , definitely gambling. However found this forum because I saw Amflow is supporting those in a thread here, and I am hopeful and somewhat confident that DJI will support me as much as they can based on what I've seen. I have a DJI drone, love it, and have never had any issues.

Best case - my wishful thinking: the quality is as exceptional as the design, and I won't need support or parts for a long time, ideally never until the battery cycles are near the end.

Bad case - is that I need a new motor, battery, or display in the next couple of years...that all seems easily replaceable on the bike,..., the down side, I agree, will be until they are in the US, or if never, if I need parts, I will have to ship from another country, and pay for + wait the time it takes, for that.

Absolute worst case: Its finally garbage quality and design, breaks all the time, and I give up on it - I just lost $12K. I accepted that risk when I bought it. In the US at the moment, and because its new / there hasn't been enough time for people to really put serious miles on them.

I have no idea what to expect or will happen long term, but the bike is so awesome, so far... it was worth every bit of wait, $, and gamble, for me for sure. Technically its a super smart design so that gives me some confidence.

But ......Riding it does feel like hitting the Jackpot at the Casino. It Rips.

The worst thing Amflow could do is not to go an extra mile in warranty and support cases since it's a new brand on the market aiming high and all brands especially new will have some types of problems.
Specialized has mainly kept their market positions due to very good warranty and support but the same can't be said about Canyon now handling battery issues.
At least for me warranty and support is key and bad news travels fast.

Maybe Drones will have some issues moving forward, due to use, ..I see the law suits in the news, but bikes? Come on now.... Doubt that. (Bikes are not used for military purposes as far as I know). After the lawyers battle it out, I think DJI will be here eventually, or at least in canada soon, seeing that forbidden rumor.

Pretty sure you are wrong about it not being class 1, or being able "to be classified" as class 1. There is no way they would be selling in Germany, if that were not the case. There is so much BS in the industry with Torque and power #'s, always has been.... at the end of the day, all that matters is the continuous nominal rating at room temp, which the manufacturer defines at some nominal voltage. The intermittent range of an electric motor, is always above the continuous.

Class 1 is 750 watts, continuous, must be pedal assist and must max at 20 mph, if I understand correctly.

IF I had to guess the "800 watts" being claimed is exactly 750 watts cont. from the motor, max for class 1 (and you putting in that extra 50+ watts with your legs). Even if the motor puts out 750 watts, there are always some efficiency losses in the drive, gearing, etc...

OR it could the drive puts out 800 watts, but with efficiency losses, ends up at 750 watts output.

1000 (and I even heard 1250 watts or something) intermittent peaks is no problem for a motor that can drive at 750 watts cont. And who knows, some of that power being "claimed" is maybe coming from human power too.

Regardless of the technical claims and #'s, the feel of this drive ROCKS.

I feel, its about time someone made a true "class 1" ebike, that doesn't weigh a ton. Pretty sure, DJI did just that.
