Hey guys

I'm after some proper waterproof MTB pants (I already have the Endura MT500 Spray which are great for light showers.... But given the lack of summer here n in Cumbria, I'm after something better).

The fox ranger 3l seems to be a good choice, but stock is virtually non existent and the defend doesn't rate as well.
The mt500 waterproof are not a good choice for me as they are crinkley and the fit is not good (compared to the spray).


Any recommendations guys?

I'm 6'2"ish with a 36"waist.....

As I said elsewhere:

"I use a lightweight packable waterproof overshell which I carry in a back pack, put it on when it chucks it down and take it off when it stops. Same with trousers. May not look pretty but I'm too old to care."

Edit: have Endura waterproof trousers but sweat to death in them so they sit unloved in a cupboard.

I wear trousers more than shorts (unless the temperature does actually go above 20c).....

Even above 20C the stinging nettles can be really nasty but now seem to be losing some 'stingability' [sic]. Got some Endura MT500 ultra lightweight trousers which wear in summer 'cos lot of what we do is XC in nettle lined countryside. Got a pair of mens and a pair of women's, both fit just right. 😉

Have they changed them in the last year or two? I found the fit so different to the Spray version, so sent them back (that was a year or two back)

technical fabrics will eventually leak - so I’ve a few options dirtlej suit for slopfests and some genuine and some not so much via aliexpress POC trouser and shorts and some endura mt500’s various option from depth of winter to depth of summer

Madison DTE 3-Layer waterproof Trousers, the Dungarees are also top notch, Leatt Hydradry 5 are also excellent, living here in Yorkshire the aforementioned recommendations have brushed off all that the weather has thrown at them.

TLD Resist.

They feel a bit rubbery when you touch them but they feel fine when you're riding.

They do let water in eventually. I think last time I wore them was in the Peak District and it rained for 7 hotlrs solid. They kept me dry for a surprisingly long time though.

There's 2 different versions. The old ones are quite tapered at the ankle. I can just about get them over the top of my Lake boots. Grip Grab gaiters over the boots, then pull the trousers down over the whole lot.

Wearing them with shoes would be pointless, all the water would just run into your shoes. Water proof socks...? Maybe that would work.

I want to try the Madison DTE dungarees. I've got so much Madison stuff and it's all excellent.

I bought a Leatt dirt suit thing from CRC during their fire sale. Haven't actually worn it yet. I'm not sure I can bring myself to wear a Onesie

Don't listen to the reviews I've had fox ranger 3l and defender 3l, I think the defenders are better.

Bumping this thread; I have two pairs of the above but cut down to shorts so work really well.
I have some Alpinestars trousers I'm yet to try out but what I really need are trousers with just a waterproof arse so you aren't riding in a bin bag on days which are dry but there's still a lot of water on the trail
Only ones I can find are the Dyfrs ones at 150 a pop

Madison Zenith 4 Season.

Waterproof bum and inner thighs. Normal material everywhere else. Thigh zips to vent a bit of heat.

I've had mine for a couple of years and they get worn pretty much exclusively from November(ish) until it's warm enough for shorts again. Only if it's properly raining do I leave them at home I favour of some TLD Resist.

They also do 4 season shorts which are the same but erm, shorts... Those are my go to all year round until it's cold enough for trousers.

bit early to say but i have these and two days of riding in Afan and then Bwlch Nant yr Arian, in the gloop and rain and they were great , i have the hardshell vest also , which i combine with my Gore Lupra jacket

Not waterproof but warm, shower proof, comfy and not massively over legged like Endura's for us guys under 6 foot, on Amazon at £32.

I'm that impressed after riding through wet muddy water today and keeping dry (also wearing Sealskinz socks) and the rain showers on Friday I might buy another pair. Not a 'big brand' name but noone gives a damn at your leggings when it's wet.

Who can tell. Endura aren't exactly known for their consistency with sizing!

I've got 30' TLD Resist and they're true to size. I'd usually buy 30' waist in everything else and the Resist fit nicely. Maybe a little looser than I'd like but fine for on the bike.

The ankles are tapered and not stretchy. I can just about wiggle them down over my Lake boots but the boots are a tight, wrap around neoprene cuff. The trousers wouldn't fit over a hiking type boot.

I've got some Mavic boots with a padded ankle cuff and the Resist trousers definitely don't fit over the top of the boots.

try the following , good price , good wet ass protection :), have some other bits of their kit too , quality on par with the big brands Gravity MTB Pants

Hi, I had the Troy Lee Resist, it is new, but I feel
Rubbery feel inside and do not like me. Is normal on this type of pants? I did not ride on Rain, I only ride on little mud.

I am thinking to return (100€ is muc money) and buy the Decathlon ones. Thanks.

Yes, that's normal for fully waterproof pants. I'd send them back and for that money you could probably buy two pairs of Decathlon pants so that you would always have a dry pair. 'Showerproof' is all you need probably.

Edit: when you get hot in fully waterproof trousers your sweat will stay inside the trousers! 🫢

Just came back from 30km wet trail ride, +7 celscius and some mild rain. Just the weather what I bought Resist pants for this autumn. They have been great. They are rubbery but I ride with long socks and knee pads so there’s not so much skin contact. They keep me dry and comfortable. Wouldn’t ride them in summer or dry thou…

My Resist were the same and I nearly sent than back.

I've kept them and have been using them for 2 years.

Although they feel rubbery when you put them on, I don't notice when I'm riding. I do t feel like I sweat any more than I do in normal, non waterproof trousers.

I probably wouldn't wear them in summer but I'm a hot person so general rose in shorts.

I'd say keep them. They're brilliant trousers.
