500wh battery in a Voima!

Check this out. Openly plagiarised from a post on the Pole bookface page.
I'm really interested in a smaller battery and less weight.

Most of my rides will be within a 500wh capacity.
Plus if I have 2 batteries it makes perfect sense to have 2 different sized batteries. 1250hw toral will give me a good day at the bike park!

With this mod I could potentially get the voima into the 22-23kg range.....

I would really like to get this too. My bike would be 47lbs with it! Great for short rides or bike park! I didn’t see an English language setting on that German website though. And I wonder if they would ship to the US? Is that the only company that sells the adapter? I searched the part # and didn’t see anyone else that sells it.

It seems that adapter is only available in Germany. But more research reveals that there are quite a few adapters out there for 500 to 625 are the same distance. So I guess 2 x 500 to 625 adapters of a different brand might work too. I'll definitely be testing and sorting this out when the voima turns up.

Perhaps one small issue is the 750 smart system battery terminals aren't the same as the 500 and 625.
Well the chargers aren't compatible so I assume the terminals are the same.

I'll have to check all that out when I have the batteries in my hands. Wiring and terminals isn't too hard for me.

I considered running a smaller battery too, in the end it was easier to just get another 750.
Actually I just checked the 500 and 625s are now available in the smart system. So yep, just a spacer you'll need.

So I have the spacer on the way from Vision Velo and I got a battery from my local bike shop. But when I got the battery, it had a different plug and it’s not for the smart system, (I need a Bosch BBP3751). The problem is it doesn’t seem to be available anywhere in the United States! The next problem is I can’t find any company that will ship one to the US! Does anyone know a shop that will ship one to the US?

That was the problem I encountered in nz. No smart system batteries available in smaller sizes that 750wh in nz.

But why though? Why is it only available in Europe and why won’t they ship it anywhere else? Is it just because it’s new? WTF! I need answers and more importantly, I need the battery!

Supply and demand I guess. If there is minimal demand for the smaller sizes then they won't stock them. What current bike designs use a 500wh smart battery? I dont know if any.

Update! My Vision Velo adapter and battery cover have arrived! Now I just need to find a source who has the 500w vertical Smart System PowerTube battery, (bbp3751) and will ship it to me in the US. If anyone knows where I can get one that can be shipped to the US, let me know! By the way, the Vision Velo adapter and cover are really nice and light, 172g for the adapter and 80g for the cover.

Any idea how to get a 500 Wh battery to Finland? I'm a bit confused now, any german webshops I found aren't delivering to Finland, even though we're in EU. Would love to decrease the weight by 1,3 kg, because I normally don't need more than a half of the 750 Wh capacity and in longer adventure days I need second battery anyway...

I’m the same. I actually contacted Chris from Pole to see if they had any or could get one. Unfortunately he said they didn’t have any. But I’m sure if there were enough Voima owners who wanted them, they might order some and make them available on their website. In fact, I just emailed him again asking this question. 🤞🏼

So unfortunately Pole said they can’t get any 500w smart system batteries right now. So I’m SOL at the moment. Until I can find someone to sell and ship me the battery.

I think we're "in the same boat" - restricted shipping of the Li batteries. Even though every shipment from Germany to Finland come through ship in practice, not as flight cargo. Even within Finland a 160 Wh battery had tight labeling requirements and an extra day delivery time.

I got a reply from Pole and they said they weren’t able to get any at this time.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the 500w vertical PowerTube for the Smart System is not in stock, but I just emailed them to ask how soon they will have more.
Probably of not much help to you but the 500w is in stock here in Aus. I'm waiting on my adapter to confirm the quality before getting the smaller battery.

Well, ebike24 is a no go for the battery. The short version is they can order me one, but the shipping would cost $300-$500 not including the cost of the battery. That’s not going to happen. So I’ll have to find another source.

This is their full email response,

“Thank you very much for your Email and your interest in our products.

We do not have the battery in stock right now. However, our supplier it is available at our supplier so we should be able to get it within 1 to 2 weeks. If you place an order online, our purchasing department will be notified and place an order with our supplier.

Shipping to the US is possible, it is a bit complicated however. We have to ship it as hazmat via air freight. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of airlines willing to transport these type of lithium batteries.

For deliveries to North America, we work with a British dangerous goods service provider. In our experience, shipping usually ranges between $300- $500.

If you would like to proceed, it is necessary that you place an order online with your full address data. If you are able to provide a business address, the shipping costs may be a bit lower than shipping to a private address. You can choose "Bank transfer" as the payment method. This way, you do not have to pay anything at the moment. Once we clarified the shipping costs we will send you a link for payment. This step is required because the freight companies will request an order confirmation.

Please note, that we cannot cover the shipping costs in case of a return. This has to be taken care of by yourself. This is why you should always double-check if the battery fits to your bike before ordering.

Furthermore, you have to take care of the import of the battery as well as all occurring customs / import duties. We ship via Incoterm "DAP".

I hope this clarifies the whole process of shipping a battery to the US.

In case of questions do not hesitate to contact us.”

Thank You. I thus don't even need to ask. And there should be a Bosch adaptor available as well, so let's wait for half a year and maybe we finally get the proper feathers (Y)

The adapters are already available from a few sources. Mine is 3d printed from Vision Velo, the same guy that makes the Voima specific fenders and battery covers. I still have a couple of possibilities to get the battery that I’m working on, so hopefully I’ll have good news by next week.🤞🏼

Can Bosch USA order you one the slow boat with their next shipment?
Bosch will not sell anything direct to consumers. You have to go through a Bosch dealer. However, I have emailed Bosch USA to ask where I can get one and I’m waiting on their response. My local bike shop, (who is a Bosch dealer) is also checking with them and other parts sources .
