So all the panic for nothing. Always best to wait to hear from the manufacturer. It's not ideal if you have the cracking, but at least you can use it still which is great news for everyone 👏
Thanks for letting us know
No panic. But when you spend £7500 on a bike you right it right!! Just a same they have to sort the problem out but at least they are the case.

I wouldn't kill the thread just yet. I would like to have the official statement from Giant here or on their web page. Also someone independent should strip the paint from one of those bikes with a big version of this crack and take a good look.

Yes it would be good for Giant to send a statement out regarding this problem so everyone is on the same page! Hopefully someone from Giant is reading these threads!?!

Very few, if any manufacturer would announce this. Especially when it's only cosmetic. If you have the issue contact giant and they hopefully say the same thing. Normal warrenty process. Still don't know if it's a specific batch as some bikes don't seem to get it. But either way just contact giant if you have an issue

To be honest unless it happens people should absolutely treat it as a warranty issue. I have never heard before that such cracks in the paint (especially those big ones) came up to be a benign problem.

Contacting Giant in most cases gives absolutely no result. This is not how they operate. They operate through LBSes.

This have come from bike shop.
Giant have confirmed that the issue is with a filler used over the top of the welding that is, under stress, flexing and then causing a paint crack, no structural issues. Giant have categorically stated the bike is safe to ride and they are currently pursuing long term solutions with the factory for anybody who has had this issue. They say it’s 100% safe to ride.
So at least we can ride the bike now!
Not sure what the long term fox is though!!

You are registered since 8 days mate. If you have some definite statements like that to write please try to back it up with something. "100% safe to ride". After reading the whole thread this is not my conclusion. The only conclusion is that the owners of this bike that have a crack should go to the LBS to try to investigate and possibly replace the frame.

Wow lots of great info and discussion in this thread. Curious to know how widespread this is so chiming in with mine.

How does it look like inside? Your crack is huge. If there is a structural damage you might see it inside under the battery. Although it may be hidden under the bracket that is welded there to the frame.

I don't want to be a pessimist but it smells like a VERY good candidate for not only a warranty issue but a full blown recall. It's very hard to believe that there is no structural damage underneath.

Only way to be absolutely sure is to carefully completely strip the paint off for at least 20mm each side of the crack. Is what I would do if only for my peace of mind. If there's no underlying crack it can be easily painted over.

Problem is that it might void the warranty.

I started contacting Giant on multiple channels. Let's see if they can help.

Are they doing anything about the paint cracking? It can only get worse. It needs foxing now! :ROFLMAO:

Only that they are in talks to find a solution. Not really sure what that means at all. All the bike shop has been told is that the bike is safe to ride and it’s not the frame that is cracked just the filler over the welds flexing and cracking! All I can think of is that they are going to have to make new frames and send them out! That will take forever!!

Filler or a spackle? Filler sounds like it's some kind of material designed to be there. If the aluminum underneath looks like crap after hydroforming and welding the bracket, maybe they used good old spackle. It actually might make sense if this is the case.

Another one in exactly the same spot starting from the mid point in the tube cracking down through the drive side.

So now we have cracking in Canada, New Zealand, Wales & the USA. Seems like the "bad batch" theory is out the window

The only thing that gives me confidence to keep riding the bike is that no-one has cracks on the inside. See.tomdit the explanation above its a filler cracking and not the actual frame. I don't have it yet, and would of thought I would have it by now so maybe just lucky. I know 4 people with one of these bikes and none of us have it. All do regular bike parks and ride alot

I can't tell if your being serious or not. Great news for everyone their bike has a nasty crack in it?

Can you imagine when you have to try and sell this bike and tell the buyer, yes its cracked but its okay..?

It's covered under warranty and will be resolved so non-issue there. Yes, it's a crack but not structural so just ride it. Not stopping you use it and it will be fixed. If they said it was structural, that's a different matter. But it's not, so enjoy riding

So one Reign is cracked right through and plenty of others showing cracks in the same place. You cannot categorically state its not structural when you don't know the details of each bike.

Of course Giant is going to say something to gloss over it, the biggest issue IMO is twofold

1. Bikes less than 2 years old should not crack or fail
2. I can only imagine how long its going to take Giant to replace these frames due to current stock and shipping issues

Giant won't lie. Would open them to a massive legal issue . Where is the one that has cracked right through and snapped? Not seen that

Top of page 3 of this thread... Might not have snapped in half yet... but can guarantee with more riding it will

I admire your steadfast belief in there not being an issue haha.

Taken to shop today and it's fucked.
100 percent cracked.

You could run your fingernail easily in one direction and it would catch in the other proving there is a step /height difference.
LBS agrees and has started the warranty process.
As much as I absolutely live this bike I have purchased a Norco range vlt c1 as I have no longer have faith in the design.
Kinda blows the old aluminum doesn't fail theory out the window. Just tapping this area with your finger you can hear how thin it is.
I will bit keep this bike whatever way it goes.
Sorry guys to be the bearer if bad news but this looks like a shit storm for giant!

The thin part doesn't add up. This frame is thicker than my grandpa's dandruff crust. It's so thick I couldn't believe my fingers. I thought the walls of the down tube must be hollow it's so thick.

Guys. Let's wait for some official info. Maybe @Rob Rides EMTB could help us with the issue?

It's getting beyond alarming at this point, what does it take to be an official recall ?

Giant will need to issue an official communication as soon as possible, it's not acceptable to have so many cracked frames and still don't know what's going on.
