Guys,

I am building my own bike on M500, i am livinging in EU / Poland where on public roads we need to have 25km/h limit. I would like to have possibility to turn on and off this limit to keep bike legal when i will drive on bike lanes and turn it off for non-public roads and... my travels - i will travel with bike to other countries outside of Eu where is no such limit, i have a bigger project to ride world on this bike.

And the case is - have you some clues of how to make M500 configurable (to easy turn off the speed limit) and how to buy and get access to BESST?

Hi, first you can go here X-1 / M600 BESST Firmware Programming - Electricbike.com Ebike Forum and here Bafang M500/M600 thread - Endless Sphere (credits to markus datgloi)and see if you find someting useful(maybe you can ask someone there). Then if you sure you can tune motor, you can try to buy BESST tool on Luna site Bafang Besst Service Tool its 100+50 shipping with fedex+TAX i think. Or here Interfaccia Bafang BESST programmazione e aggiornamento nuovi motori Bafang. | eBay and here Bafang BESST UC 3.0 Diagnose Tool - Schwarz kaufen bei HBS

google found another one without besst tool M500 M600 Bafang Virtual access BESST

Where are you buying the m500 system from? What battery are you pairing it with?

I have readed about the issues with legal of self-build bike nad now considering to buy something 'ready', most probably also on M500.

There also this things SpeedFun GHOST for Bafang M500 Issimo - Speed Fun not sure how they works
Hi guys, I'm new here (this is my first posting). I signed up because of this thread. Just ordered a SpeedFun ghost for the Issimo bike. I have a Ego Movement Bike with an M500 motor with a comparable battery, so I thought this could work.

I'll come back to you after I've received the device.

you just payed 100 euro's for a simple CANBUS adapter that sends a single command to the motor :-P

interesting.they managed to find integrated light contacts:
The release device can be activated and deactivated with the ebike lights function.
With the lights off function the device will be deactivated and everything will be as in the original.
With the lights on the ebike display will show the real speed up to approx.

Exactly, and this is quite useful

When you exceeding the 25km/h its showing real speed value or something different?
20 KmH and beyond it will mark the halved speed.
In addition, each time the ebike stops, the system will initiate a compensation which will allow the display to show the precise distance. If the ebike resumes movement, the compensation will be suspended and continue to the next stop. This compensation function can also be excluded.

Not perfect, but working is better than perfect.
I am thinking about writing the bluetooth app what could allow to alter speed limit on one click, in theory it should be possible for displays with BT.
Anyway, it seems be interesting. At now i have been used BESST but the option to quick turn on and off limit is tempting and useful - turn off for offroad and enable limit for public roads.

it vould be nice if we can change wats too, from 500 to 250

Changing watts will not help in case when you would like to make M600 EU legitimate to use in 'bicycle', the engine need to conform the EN15194 to be legit. 250W is only nominal rating, M500 have 670 (48V) and 750W (36V) in peak, and M600 have 1kW in peak, so 500W rating cannot be changed because its on manufacturer. @ornias pls correct me if i am wrong.
Imo anything with M600, no matter how power will be cut will not be a 'bicycle'.

I thought M600 has around 2k peak?anyway its too much mountains here vere i live,so im afraid M500 will not bee enough to pull my 90+kg

I have been tested M600 firmware in M500 and it showed around 990W peak. I rather not looked like hit the display limit, but if someone is sure the M600 have more watts than 1kW in peak then its worth to document somerwhere.

ahh,i saw it on luna site:
OPTIONAL LUDICROUS MODE
As most Luna fans know, Luna has been hot-rodding Bafang motors for years with great success. Because of improvements we make in cooling (for example motor and controller cooling air vents) and changing certain parts, we think the ludicrous controllers are more reliable than the stock controller. However the Bafang M600 is a lightweight, tiny and sexy motor and we know running 2000 watts continuous can break things if you ride in the wrong gear up long hills or lean on the throttle too hard. We also know that in pedal-assist only applications there is no issues feeding 40 amps to this controller. Many new eBike riders tend to start out too hard in the wrong gear which is hard on the motor, controller and gear reduction. That being said this motor and controller have thermal overload protections that other Bafang drives did not have which makes it more reliable even for the less experienced riders.

what is LUDICROUS?its custom made controller?

I drive the m500 and do never reach the 670 watt in peak that you mentioned ?‍♂️. My display never shows more the 560 watt

It seems they like to push these 2kW on their "Ludi" controller with adjusted engine, however, by findings of the OpenSourceEbike/M500_M600 team the stock M600 controller should be able to push slightly more than 2kW, and stock M500 than 1kW.

So the quoted seems to be describing something different than M600 "stock"

I have 670W on firmware from Bafang for 48V and 750W is for 36V, both 'stock' for M500. Its peak power, both are for legitimate 250W rated M500.

Update:
max 720W peak version for 48V and optimised battery "CRX10NC4813i142015.8-28-2230-20210805.bin" added.

All good that the controller can push 1KW for the M500, but what about the rest of the motor hardware?

Has anyone tested the M500 for any length of time at the higher outputs?

What do you mean with "optimzed battery"? Attached you can see the details of my M500.

same as mine, i had same firmware initially.
Optimized battery - that what i got from Bafang representative when i provided the feedback an engine is loosing power in function of battery discharge.

Is the stator the same?

Bafang support representative informed me its different, but i have not verified that.

Is the 48V and 720W peak official firmware or customised?
