The e-max mobile app which I think costs £1.99 will give you battery levels as a % plus overall distance covered by the Rise.

I have the Garmin app on my watch so can see battery % etc. and also sync to Strava but want to see the actual totals for the motor, not just tracking. I think that on the Shimano EP8 with the little screen, you can see this. I think maybe only way may be to ask dealer to plug in.

I have a stupid question: If I only use Boost mode, is there any difference between "Profile 1" and "Profile 2"? I'm new to Shimano (Levo owner) and I don't really get the profile thing...is it effectively giving you up to 6 different modes instead of 3?

The characteristics of boost in profile 1 and profile 2 are different from stock . The stock setting for boost in profile 1 doesn't give you the full 60nm , stock setting in profile 2 does if I remember correctly . Basically I've left profile 1 as it came out the box , that's my harder workout / get me home setting if it's looking like I may not make it on a battery in profile 2 .
Profile 2 I upped eco a touch , I guess it depends on your terrain etc but I found I was less likely to use trail mode into head wind or on long steady hills . I think I've got eco at 29nm , trail at 42 and boost the full 60 . You can then alter the characteristics of how that power comes in . Boost I've basically maxed all 3 settings in profile 2 , if I need boost I want all its got lol .

The emax gives total for the motor

Wow I didn't even think about that! Looking at the screenshots in the Blue Paper, you're right, Boost in Profile 1 has less assist and torque. Even in Profile 2 it looks like does not have max assist.

My bike's at the shop awaiting Ride Wrap so I can't play with it yet :( Do you know if it comes with Profile 1 or Profile 2 activated by default? Puttering around my driveway in Boost felt good already, if the bike has even more power I will be impressed!

Agree 110%. I don't see a reason to run reduced power if my rides are short enough to allow it (which they usually are). For me it has nothing to do with fitness, I can push just as hard in Turbo on my Levo as I can with the bike completely off, but I can cover triple the distance and have way more fun.

FYI, these screen shots are showing ECO mode and not Boost, I think. It looks like ECO is highlighted in white.

I think they all come set in profile 1 as default. I also think that Boost in profile 2 is maxed out by default, but I'm not sure. The settings you showed are for the eco setting in both profiles.
I don't know what the teal and yellow dot represent. If you look at the top, you must select Eco, Trail or Boost to see the individual power setting for them. Eco is underlined in blue so these are the settings for eco mode only.

No, they aren't. The app shows all 3 on the same screen. Pay attention to the little teal and yellow dots.

EDIT: Which is a cool feature if you're someone like me who can't remember numbers for more than 5 seconds, you can compare all 3 while making changes :p

I stand corrected. I finally found some documentation on it. I haven't played with customizing the settings within the profiles at all, just changed between the two standard profiles. I really wish there was a good tutorial on how to use the app to it's fullest and what all of the stuff means.
From Shimano:
  • The white circle on the slider indicates the initial value.
  • The setting values of other modes are displayed on the top of the scale (ECO in light blue, TRAIL in green, and BOOST in yellow).

I'm not going to try upping the power, Rise has plenty for me at 60Nm (y)
Even connecting to st Unlocker the ep8 motor logs all the data your warranty is void now.
I know 2 people have just connected to the app both lost there warranty

This is what i got told to , I would love to try this app not to derestrict but for the info it shows , been told that as soon as it’s connected shimano warranty is void , so sadly won’t risk it

Regarding the basic Emax app this doesn’t affect the warranty it just pulls information from the bike and doesn’t leave a trace. It also forms a platform for Emax tuning options but these have to be downloaded separately.
For those interested, the EP8 RS can be derestricted or otherwise have a region change to US 20mph. Much depends on the firmware version on the individual motor. It seems most of the RS tune motors have the latest firmware updates thus limiting tuning options. You would have to then change the firmware back to an older EP8 version. Markus at Emax (based in Germany) has very detailed instructions on how to do this either via Bluetooth or using Windows/PCE01 cable . He says that his products have been carefully designed to be completely removable without leaving a trace in respect of warranty issues. Personally I have not tried this but I do think that the US 20mph option would be of considerable interest to many riders.
PS I have absolutely nothing to do with Emax but have found the owner a very interesting and helpful guy to deal with and a mine of info re everything Shimano ( in terms of motors). Contact is [email protected]

Except that your work intervals are 3x as short, and doing more of them doesn’t make up for the fact that your avg heart rate goes down with all those breaks.

Not trying to be a dick, but ime you really have to pay attention if you’re going to try to replicate a similar workout to analog. Doing more and shorter intervals isn’t the same as doing fewer and longer. To get the most bang for your buck without changing your routes to add longer climbs on e, work harder than normal on your short climbs, since you’re doing repeats anyway.

Just connecting and reading information Will Not void your warranty. Only changing params will do. I have talked to orbea directly

It’s Shimano you need to speak to not orbea
Not really, they sold the bike to me and they will do any repair I need, this is a custom motor by Orbea, they have the stock and they will replace it whenever I need to. That is what they said.

I hope your correct

I know with Specialized if a motor goes wrong first contact is to report to Specialized which then claim a motor from Brose , specialIzed will then check to see if software had been used that could mean brose reject the warranty claim

I am pretty sure If something went wrong with your bike orbea will log a warranty claim to shimano and they will then Obviously void the warranty

I can’t imagine orbea would tell shimano that’s they Suggested or authorised that you could use third party software

For a new motor they will file a warranty claim with Maddison UK which is the distributor for Shimano UK.
You can take your bike to any Shimano dealer which will process a warranty claim
Only time you need to get intouch with orbea is snapped frames

The thing here is that shimano allows end users to use their pc software to get some info about their bikes and change some params if needed, in example when changing wheel diameter.

however you are not allowed to change power above their factory limits as this will of course void your warranty.

the manual and the software for the pc software is public and the mobile app uses the same interface.

I could be wrong but as long as you are within allowed parameters you are good to go. This is the reason shimano has disabled the ability to change bike region or wheel diameter with the mobile app, because it was to easy to do and will allow you to use your bike ilegally but they did not mention ever that doing it would void your warranty, because it is something needed and the dealer can do it easily.

anyway... do it at your own risk, I was trying just to help and I will never recommend changing params to the ebike from the mobile unofficial app.

p.d: the reading of the bike values is exactly what the etube app does when connecting. Stunlocker and etube just read the same values using the bluetooth interface

good luck!
