Official Merida eOne-Sixty thread

Last week I rode at Rotorua for 2 days.

Ive entered a 63k race there in April, I may not have been thinking right at the time. It has 1500m of climbing. So I started training my fat ass. I spent time working on battery management to help make the distance on one battery. I can climb slowly on Eco mode and keep my heart rate reasonable. On my second profile Ive setup Trail to have less power so that helps.

I did a ride of 40ks, climbing 1000m and had 40% of battery left.

Hope to lose some weight and gain some strength before the event as well.

Today I changed the stock Maxxis tyres out for some Mavic Quest Pros and saved 1100 grams off the wheels. Will see if I like them over the next couple of weeks.

What do you think of the new motor and the noise of it ?

the first rides I heard the noise, riding downhill.
But it seems after all those rides I don’t hear it anymore.

tbh I found the e8000 more aggressive, but maybe this has to do with some different settings

Be wary. The battery covers still fly off. Lost mine yesterday and ended up doing the whole loop again to look for it and found it. Fell off again 500m later but noticed it this time.

Yeah after riding my 2020 eOne sixty 9000 and now the 2021 model . I can't see the need to upgrade to the new model. The noise is bad. And the extra power is hardly noticeable.

And regarding the cover. I don't see how people are loosing them . Mine has never fallen off on both models. First ride was down thredbo in Australia no sign of the cover coming off.

Just because it doesn't happen to you, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Think im going to put a mount on my battery cover to hold my little tool bag. I strap the cover anyway.

Anybody know if somebody makes a bash guard for the motor cover? Mine has taken a couple of hits already.

So took my new e160 700 out for it's first 'real' spin yesterday morning

It's been a while since I've ridden proper singletrack and skills were pretty rusty
The extra speed and momentum you carry in turns takes a bit to get used to

However, the motor boost is freaking amazing - when you find yourself smiling on the way back up you know it's good

Other observations

EP8 motor noise is hardly noticeable - both the 'clicking' when coasting and 'hum / whir' when pedaling - not an issue at all for me
The rear hub freewheel buzz is more annoying

Marzocchi Z1 is excellent and much better than the old RS Sektor I've got on my analogue
Really supportive even when fully open - no ducking or diving in turns - and very smooth when hucking !

The weight with the battery fitted is surprisingly heavy
My analogue felt feather lite when moving it in comparison
But you don't notice it so much when actually riding other than what I noted above

Double thumbs up so far

Hello and greetings from Finland!

Here is mine Merida E160 8000 2020, size L.

I have Lyrik 160mm, Zee brakes, 10 speed cassette (11-36) with Zee derailleur, 30t chain ring, Saint shifter and new seat (clour coding ;) ).
27,5+ front and rear wheels (from E160 900) with Suomi Tyres Fat Freddie 3". Motor is new, because E-tube hanged up and bricked the motor (I just did one 30km ride)

Have nice weeknd for everyone!!!

We collected my wife's new bike today. Merida eONE Sixty 700 in Teal/Anthracite.

Planned on a eONE FORTY 500 but it didn't arrive in the drop on Thursday so he offered us the 160 700 as he had a Medium spare.

Yes please! Over specified for the missus and we did discuss swapping her fork and shock to my 160 Limited but I eventually came down to warranty concerns so I've left it stock. I'll just have to upgrade mine later!

Its an absolute beauty spec-wise and the colour is beautiful (she loves the colour!).

My LBS got a drop of Merida bikes on Thursday and already sold 5 by this morning. Go take a look to see what's left...

Here's website pic with colour shown.

Took her out for a sighting/familiarity ride in the rain today - only 6.5 miles but never heard her giggle so much on a bike! Took an hour to get the smile off her face. :)

It truly is a nice looking bike
I’m currently reclining on my couch with a nice glass of McLaran Vale Grenache and admiring mine ?

Hi All.

I should have bought an e160 900E in 2019. The Di2 system, Saint brakes and suspension components are big pluses in my mind. And the external battery would be very practical for recharging in the work office. Of course, it’s way too late to buy new. But this is the bike I still daydream about!

I’ve been keeping my eye out for a used example in size XL given this is the size recommended for the current Merida eMTB range. I’m 188 cm tall, with a inseam of 88 cm and arm length of 63 cm. Weight currently at 115kg.

But I’m now wondering if Merida changed their frame sizing in 2020? I say this because I’ve recently uncovered the geometry table for the 2019 versions of the e160 900e. The rider height range for the L version covered 177 to 190 cm (quite a range!) And the geometry specs seems to place the “2019 size L” more toward the “2020 size XL”.

If this is true then I think a “2019 size L” could be a good choice and this would likely have been a more popular size. As luck would have it, there was a mint condition 2019 size L sold here just recently. I passed it up thinking I needed an XL.

Can anyone confirm my “2019 size L” is a near equivalent to a “2020 size XL” theory?

Good advice appreciated.

I am 178cm tall and I had L-size E160 900 (-19). Now I have L-size E160 8000 (-20) and only difference what I noticed is that front end is slightly heavier than previous bike.

2020 Merida did sell a bike with a same framegeometry like 2019 E160 700/800/900 was. But not in 2021.

Here is comparison E160 900 vs. E160 8000 frame geometry.

Tob tube:
2019: 634 (L) / 658 (XL)
2020: 628,5 (L) / 652 (XL)
2021: 629 (L) / 652 (XL)

Seat tube:
2019: 470 (L) / 510 (XL)
2020: 470 (L) / 500 (XL)
2021: 470 (L) / 500 (XL)

Reach:
2019: 460 (L) / 480 (XL)
2020: 460 (L) / 480 (XL)
2021: 460 (L) / 480 (XL)

Chain stay:
2019: 439,5 (L) / 439,5 (XL)
2020: 439,5 (L) / 439,5 (XL)
2021: 439,5 (L) / 439,5 (XL)

2019 E160 has only longer tob tube length than 2020/2021, but thats because 2020/2021 has steeper seat tube angle.
If I were you I would go XL-size, no matter what model year it is.

It seems the XL version is the unicorn of the used eMTB market. Since I've been looking I've found two L versions, a chicken with teeth and a pile of rocking horse poo. But no XL version :)

Would it be possible/practical/sensible to turn an L into an XL with bars, bar clamp and "long travel" seat or seat post mount?

Anybody? I seem to have killed a 29 page, 3 years running Topic with a single post!

Has anyone any experience in changing the integrated headset for a standard one on the 20/21 models if so what’s available? Cheers

no certainly not.

theres a one sixty 8000 in XL in stock at wheelbase north east store?

All the talk here seems to be about the eOne-Sixty and the eOne-Forty hardly seems to get a mention.

Are there any particular reasons for this?

Because this thread is about the eOne sixty not the forty

Sorry, I meant in the Merida forum in general, and even wider "online" for that matter. On paper I think I'd prefer the handling characteristics of the 140, but have an eye on residual values and if the 140 is not very common then may lead to lower resale value down the line.

Does anybody know if the 630wh battery will fit in the 2021 e160 500?

Contemplating the 500 and then adding the larger battery at a later date, but wasn't sure if it will fit / is supported.

Merida have said in their press releases that the frame on the 2021 is identical to the 2020 with the battery mounts moved to allow the longer battery.

They knew the specs of the ep8 series while developing the 2020 and engineered it to support both.

Assuming that the frame has both sets of bolts then it may be possible.
