New RideControl App

Just installed it, and it needed to apply an update to the bike.

one slight bug I've noticed is that if you change measurements under personal details to imperial, the units change from Km to Miles but the value stays the same (In the total miles value, I've not tested live speed/mileage values yet)

........did it update your bike correctly, thats the important thing ! ?

Can´t seem to find it.... maybe it´s only available for Android users? Hopefully will be available soon for iOS in Spain!

Found it on the Play store. Took a long time to download for some reason.
Had to sign up again as the old account doesn't work.
Connected to my 2019 Fathom E+2 and upgraded successfully in about 2 or 3 minutes.
Nice looking app. Will try a ride later.

........ did it do the software update automatically or did you find and a manual button to update software please ?

....... I meant did it do the software update correctly on your bike ?

Yeah it seemed to, no errors came up, the bike turns on, and the app connects to the bike.

I don't know what, if anything, was changed though

for me, the app wouldnt connect to the bike unless you install the update.

You must manually start the update.

...thanks for that, so your software is now the latest 20200304000 ?
the software version on mine is 20200106000

I just tried connecting again to check the version, and again said there was an update available. I clicked update, but it failed saying the battery wasnt connected.

I had to restart the app and the bike, and it let me connect without mentioning an update.

Looks like it's still a bit flakey!

I have an Android phone and cannot find it on the Play Store App. Whatever I type into the search box it just brings up the old app. It also shows all the other various Giant apps, but not the new one.

But if I open an internet app on my phone and go to this website page and click on the link above it instantly opens the Play Store App and opens on the new app!

When you install the new app does it update the old one, or does it install the new one as a completely separate app (is the old app still on your phone)?

....mine hasn't done any update, but I'm guessing our bikes are different, I've got the 2019 Fathom e + 3..... so I suppose it would have different software ?

We just got a new Liv Tempt E+1 XS. In Xxxtra Small it's is a versatile commuter that anyone can ride. Electric-metallic midnight blue and 3d embossed LiV decal, it's a quality, big bang for buck all mountain commuter for ladies, men, kids, pets etc. To me, it's the first electro BMX in the garage.

What a great bike.

The app? Fortunately I no longer find any app necessary on any bike but wtf Giant ?? There's no point putting walls around your garden if you don't know how to do the gardening. Kind of like Specialized, open up your environment & invite creativity & innovation.

One massive way to improve on Specialized's approach, reject surveillance capitalism or whatever you want to call it, ditch big data income streams, respect privacy and everyone benefits. BTW I don't think bike companies are necessarily the culprit, just a link in the chain.

'Too much info' is a phrase I love. That sums it up.

When you are on Google Play and looking at the OLD app page, scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and look for the new dark blue Giant icon with the text 'RideControl App', click that and it should open the new app for you.

Thanks. That works, but it is very strange that it still does not appear anywhere if you search for Giant apps.

installed the app, and it did do the bike update. Now to see if when we ride 1 mile will it show we rode one mile or 10?? Will it map correctly??

I installed the new app and gave it a test run today. I only used the old app for firmware updates and to randomly check my battery health so I don't really know what the problems with the old one are. Here is my account of using it a few hours ago. I use a garmin watch to log my rides and I have a data field that reads my battery level and assist level.

After installing the app, which took a very long time to download and install (minor but worth mentioning I guess) I took a quick look around and everything looked nice. The UI is definitely better on the eyes. On first connect I had to do two firmware updates on the bike (2020 Trance 2 Pro). They were labelled as "3/4" and "4/4". I could not let my screen turn off for the updates to work. I got frustrated a few times trying to update because I set my phone on the seat and walked away, if the screen turned off I had to restart. I even looked away for a bit to long and had to restart it once. That being said, when I paid attention and with multiple restarts, the updates went through fine.

I made a couple quick adjustments to my support levels and proceeded to start a new ride log. After 3km I checked on the phone to find that even though my phone and bike had been connected constantly, it logged nothing. It was still reading battery levels and even had a breadcrumb trail on the map but was showing zeros across the board for stats. I reset my bike and restarted my phone and reconnected. Started a new ride log and after a few km everything was working fine. When I got to around 16km I stopped and checked the app again. It was only showing 8km and had an accurate breadcrumb. Battery level, range etc was still showing accurate but by now I had given up on caring about the apps accuracy and continued on using my garmin as the true measurement. Checked my app again around the 25km mark and noticed huge problems with random breadcrumb lines shooting out and back (I was carrying the phone in my pocket so I don't expect gps data to be very accurate). The app was still showing very low kms compared to what I had actually ridden. I kept an eye on it occassionally for the rest of my ride and things continued to be wildly inaccurate. The interesting thing is that after about 15 minutes from finishing my ride the numbers all became accurate. The final number was 3km less than my watch, exactly what it should be after restarting everything. My breadcrumb map is still all over the place but I do expect that from not using a bar mount and keeping the phone in my pocket.

I did feel that my battery capacity was better, I had more juice left when I got home than normal. Typically I ride eco on approaches and use auto mode for trail riding. Auto mode felt good most of the time but occassionally did feel laggy as it did before the update.

Reviewing the post ride info is alright, the UI theme is nice but the graphing is hard to read at times. I appreciate that they include a graph for gps signal quality.

Unfortunately, I do not see an assist level graph nor do I see a battery level graph. Also, immediately after my ride I could see my battery usage (53% which was inaccurate, based on battery levels I used closer to 65-70%). Looking at the ride again now the battery consumption just shows 0%.

Ride time, elevation, distance (eventually) were all accurate.

Like I said, I rarely used the old app. I only logged one ride with it, and now I've only logged one ride with the new app. Based on my incredibly limited experience with the two, the old app worked better. I hope this is a one off and I hope we see some significantly better experiences trickling in in the next few days. Good luck!

I also find it interesting that early when I installed the app I was able to find it on the play store without any links. I can't find it that way anymore, the only way I can see the app on the store is by following the above link.

At least the new app shows total distance of the bike. This is all I was asking for to time my services :D

Installation went smooth as others pointed out already. Two FW updates were necessary.
After turning my bike off and press on again it wouldnt start. But removing the bikes battery for a minute solved the problem.
