Whyte e-mtb

Clearly I disagree with fx1 as I spent my hard earned cash on one fortunately there is something out there for everyone
spec is decent as far as I am concerned, nothing is holding the e180 back and nothing is on the “upgrade before it leaves the shop“ list. I’ve just set up my shocks and spanked it from day 1

I get what you are saying about the alu frame. Let me tell you it’s a breath of fresh air whacking the frame/rims on a rock and shrugging it off. My other bike is an evil insurgent on sixth element wheels. I always wince when something clatters against that
I get ya.. I nearly bought one myself.

Great bike.

I'm a bit of a spec junky though and wanted fox this time. I also think bike shops are a waste of time. So I'm not prepared to pay any premium for them.

I also needed the 180rs and nearly 6k was to much for me this time around.

How can you beat the radon with local support and direct sales?

£5250 for the RS isnt cheap and the spec is average at best.

Whyte is 27.5 though and geo is nice but value is poor and local shops are not always good either.

No carbon frame is bad value.

Radon is a direct sales brand though? Seems to be only sold through bike discount
Yes but they have local service centres so the argument of local bike shop service goes away

Yes mate, completely see where you are coming from. I wouldn’t hesitate to go direct for a non e bike. This is my first e bike so I was happy to pay a premium for LBS backup should anything go wrong.

happy hunting, there are some incredible deals out there ?

I was very keen on the Propain Ekano but was put off by the lack of backup ultimately

If you live in Germany!
I've not checked lol.

I got the YT with the money saved I'll buy another motor and battery lol. Still a better spec than bike shop stuff. But if was going LBS now I'd get the whyte

The problem with the YT is that it has a proprietary battery, which if you have issues need to be sent back to Germany, can't be serviced by Madison in the UK.

Yes. But I plan on getting a second unit when they become available either 540wh or 700wh.

I got a 2019 model with £700 off which is near identical to 2020 model. So the savings I'll invest in a second battery as when at BPW or longer days out I can swap it out. Side benefit is if I get an issue with one I can just use the other.

But I do agree that the current 625wh battery from Bosch is better choice for this reason. The YT could have used the Bosch system had it been out at the time.

If you ask nicely the shops are open to negotiations. I didn't pay any where £5750 and now have some shop backup
Very happy here

Yes. They said wouldn't discuss on phone so drove to them for them to offer me £200 off. Gave up after the second shop and got a YT.

I wanted the e180 but didnt want to spend 5 grand this time around. So the 2019 YT at £4300 with fox elite suspension was hard to pass up. Maybe whyte next time for me

I was looking at the Whyte website and noticed this on the pecs page for the E180... E-180 RS

Bosch 625 Wh internal PowerTube
Reaches full charge in 8.8 hours with supplied 2A Compact Charger
(or only 3.7 hours with optional aftermarket Fast Charger)

They only supply a 2A that charges the battery from 0-100 is 8.8 hours? Surely that's a typo... shouldn't it at least be supplied with the standard 4A charger on a high-end bike like this?

It does seem a bit tight not coming with a quicker charger. Over 8 hours to charge is a pain as I would like to be around to keep an eye on it.

I'm pretty sure they all come with 4A chargers.

Yep 4A charger came standard with mine. The 6 amp is £120 odd, maybe a bit more ?

Yep it’s a 4a charger as std. I got the 6a as well and just use it when I need a quick charge.

Anyone have any tips on how to mount the rubber cable grommets? Think they are a pain in the ass to mount.

Been out 4 nights this week so far on my e150s since the weather has been a bit better, absolutely loving it, what a great bike.
The rear axle on my mates Kenevo knacked up the other day, yet another issue he's had on his 13 month old bike, it was great to see him struggling up a steep hill last night on his manual Cube while I was laughing at him from the top ?

Hey that's pretty awesome, how easy is it to slip the cover piece off to get to them?
Do they Rattle about that much?

Nice work ? also seeing where you have moved the rear mech cable.... how close does it get to the tyre? Squashed my second one at Gisburn today ?

The cover is two screws, but for me it's not often I use those things, so I prioritise getting them out of the way instead of quick access, at least when it's not racing.

Not rattling at all.

It's not that close. You could always stripe it to the chainstay If worried. But really hope Whyte finds a better cable solution for 2021.

Looking at getting a 500 wh second battery to carry on long rides anyone else done this just not to sure as it is a bit shorter than the 625 have asked dealer and Whyte but have had no response as yet.

Matthew, how easy was the cable re-route?
I've not had my Whyte apart to know what to know what to expect inside.
And is that a different rubber in the bottom of the frame?

Has anyone bought a tool to remove the Bosch drive side lock ring, it's smaller than the older one, and I don't have the right one in my toolbox.

It's not that hard, 30-60 min maybe.

The rubber you can get from Whyte. Mine is just there until I get some Kydex that I will shape and fit as a skidplate to cover the whole BB as it is so low.

I have bought that tool.
