2020 rear mud guard

Long shot I guess... but hopefully someone can help.....

I was hoping I could use a mughugger fr guard on the rear as people have with the 2019. But unfortunately it doesn’t even fit between the frame and tyre. Anyone found a useful rear mud guard?

Just fitted one of these, expensive but fits very well. Not been out yet though. Had a front mud hugger on the back last year but it split as I had to butcher it to make it fit. Front mud hugger on the front is still going strong.

I used some CAD (Cardboard Aided Design) to replicate a template of a RRP Enduroguard large and then messed around with it until I was able to create a couple of cutouts that allowed me to put it ABOVE the rear cross brace on my 2019.

However before actually cutting my Enduroguard I trial fitted it and found that once the zipties were tight it was OK under the brace. I still have the template though and if you're interested I could send a photo.

I should actually add - I went out for a wet ride earlier this week and whilst it obviously keeps some dirt / water off the area around the back of the motor the bike is still filthy in that area!

First picture shows the template I made (laid over a spare enduroguard large). The holes allowed it to fit on the outside of the brace to give more room. I also trimmed it at the back edge so that it fitted better. I did have the option of threading it a bit further down (between the tyre and the lower arm) to try and cover more of the gap, but it got very close to the tyre then

This picture shows my bike after a wet ride last weekend, the guard definitely stopped some dirt, but you can see that a lot of water / dirt still hit the rear of the motor area

How effective is it with mud flick on your back?

Zero protection from mud and water up the backside / back. Its way too far forward around the wheel for that.

I think it will keep some dirt away from the linkages / motor so will leave it in place, but its not a perfect solution

the guard needs to wrap further around the tyre to protect the linkage/seat post etc because the tread pattern pushes water/wet mud away from the centre of the tyre to the edges. I made my own rear mudguard from a sheet of plasticard such that it fixed to the far side of the cross member rather than between it and the tyre. I also made it long enough to reach the top of the wheel circumference so that most of the mud etc thrown off the tyre hit the guard......that does depend to a degree on how fast you are going though!! It lasted from March right up to last week when it split just forward of the lugs that are zip tied to the seat stays. Strangely just a small section of the guard at that point on each side had become brittle...hence the split. The rest of the guard is still flexible so I do not know why the material failed just in that area. Up until then the guard worked really well and it only cost £3 to make ( details are on the main thread dealing with "best" rear mudguards in the Specialized forum. I still have the template but now wonder if the plasticard I bought is not the right material...…...….damned complicated all the various types of plastic!! I may just make a batch and accept that each of them will probably only last 6 months or so.
ps I though the 2020 bikes used a 2.3 Eliminator rather than a 2.6 Butcher....well that's what the Spesh website says? If so would that not increase the clearance with the cross member?

ps I though the 2020 bikes used a 2.3 Eliminator rather than a 2.6 Butcher..

They're specified as coming with a 2.3 but everyone who has one has the 2.6 ... so maybe it's a typo.

Trouble is once the suspension is compressed there is a gap right where you don't want it

Whilst the genuine enduroguards are around £10 there are many similar ones on ebay / amazon etc for a few £, it might be worth you buying a cheap one and having a play to see what might fit

The clearance is small whatever you do. I was thinking in terms of using a different sized tyre when the Butcher needs changing. The advertised sizing of tyres is anything but accurate though and also depends on the rim size.....so deciding what to get is not easy.
The alternative is to do lots of skidding to wear down the tread!!!!!!

I like the Sicomtb design, but their page says on 2020 there is possibility to rub and they recommend replacement with a smaller tire? Do you have original 2,6" tire?

15mm clearance where? Even without a mudguard there is no more that about 5mm clearance from tire to upper linkage (see picture in post #3) ...

Had it on my 2018 Kenevo and 2020 Levo with loads of clearance and it stops any muc getting on the back of the motor or the shock

Plenty of clearance with 27.5 tyres, not tried it with the 29ers as i took them off as soon as i got the 2020 Levo

I have the same (Kenevo), but I trimmed it down so it stops above the bottom swing arm pivot. The downside of this is that as the suspension moves, it creates a gap and the crap gets in - hence why Christians double guard would potentially work better. Did you managed to get yours down between the frame and the tyre ?? I wasn't sure it would fit, hence trimming down.

I have a 2020 base and also the carbon sicomtb. The top piece fits tight, but the lower piece does not, or at least i cant get it to fit. The chain stay protector comes just inside the wheel arch, tried trimming that but still wont seat flush.

However, sicomtb has tried to work with me and i have not returned their email, so its not like the vendor is not trying to address the issue.
i like the way it looks, may not be as practical as i think but oh well.

Yes mine goes all the way down the back of the motor housing (all Gorilla taped up to stop any rub) so there are no gaps when the suspension moves, this is how i ran it on the Kenevo and now the Levo, still get a bit of mud sprayed up my back but its main aim is to keep the back of the motor/suspension linkage/shock clean
