Hi all.
I have a Shimano steps e8000 and I would like to change the handlebar switch, either the SW- e7000 or the SW- e6000, will it be compatible with the motor and display that I have?
At the moment I have the SW-e8000.
Has any of you changed it already?

Thanks all

Yes, commencal swapped the 8000 switch for the 7000 switch at my request when I ordered my bike. I think there's lot's of people on here who have gone from 8000 to 7000 or 6000

Yes. As @tedturbine says.

I swapped my E8000 switch for the E7000 and it worked fine. If it's an older bike, make sure the firmware is upto date.

I later wished I'd gone for the e6000 or similar for the additional display function button.

It’s an easy plug and play job, if you get the E7000 switch make sure to get one with the correct cable length. Works well.

Nice one guys, thanks for all the replies.

I have a 2018 Mondraker E-Crusher, it should be fine I guess.

I'm going to buy the e7000 I think as it is very simple, I habe also seen it on the new range of 2020 Mondraker ebikes at the cycle show last weekend.

Yup :) same here I just unplugged the E8000 one and plugged E7000 in.
I have no idea why they even bothered with that (reused Di2 Front mech) switch in the first place

I have spoken to some people who really like it .. I have to say, initially I thought it was quite cool that it emulated the Di2 switch.. The reality was that it gets in the way of a dropper post lever and it's very susceptible to crash damage.

I'll be making the "switch switch" soon. The SW-8000 is too prone to damage in crashes and the design also allows dirt and grit to get into the mechanism. Already had it fail once on a ride, and though I was able to get it straightened out and cleaned out and working again, it's gonna get replaced. I'll be putting the 7000 on.

It is also more expensive than the others, it looks chunky in the handlebar too.
I've notice many manufacturers now that don't bother anymore with the e8000 one, they just fit as a stock the e7000 or e6000.
I'll be buying my tonight.

Just following up on this -- I installed the E7000 switch and it "just worked" on my E8000 system. Didn't need any apps to configure it. It seems FAR superior to the E8000 switch. Lighter, takes up way less space on the bars, easier to find the switch, and less vulnerable to damage. Glad I made the switch! (pun intended). Definitely a recommended mod. Thanks for the suggestion!

Does the XTR Di2 shifter SW-M9050-LEFT work with Steps E8000 ?!

According the the compatibility pdf .. yes. BUT .. as others have said, the E7000 switch is much nicer, takes up less space, is easier to use with a dropper post, less likely to break in a crash (I destroyed mine on day 2), is more reliable. So if you're buying one, rather than re-using, give it some consideration.

I tried the XTR shifter for assist mode changing, but then switched to the E7000 as it is nicer like everyone says :) The XTR one is actually a downgrade over the standard one for mode shifting as it is harder to activate walk mode - you have to keep the shifter at the first click to stay in walk mode and can't push it all the way in to the 2nd click as walk then turns off ...

E6000 for mode switch, E7000-R for Di2 shifter. Plug and play, after installation, updated to latest firmware via E-Tube. Prefer E6000 on the left because of the third switch to check cadence and distance.

Far, far bettter and cleaner setup compared to E8000 clunkers.

For visual aesthetic i prefer firebolt shifter each side because firebolt shifter at right and small shifter at the left is not very nice to me ?

Any advice for me ?

When I plug a shifter xtr left m9050 for mode assist I loose display. It hors blank

Once I remove it. Display Come back

You probably need to update the firmware on the shifter - I had the same until I could connect it to a PC with the cable and use the PC e-tube software. I don't know if it's possible to update it using the mobile app now ...

Maybe by upgrading thé motor Fw ?
It will allow me to plug it with display ?

But I Lost 4.3.2 Fw file and do not want to be stuck on the 4.7.1 ....

Anyone give me link to thé 4.3.2 zip file or pm me it ?

For me it was the shifter firmware - the motor was fully up to date. But it was a year ago now when I tried it ...

I’m guessing you hacked your drive system this the reason you want to stay on 4.3.2. There are disadvantages to staying on old firmware. This may be one of them.

Your switch firmware is separate of drive unit firmware and separate of display firmware. You can have the drive unit at 4.3.2 and everything else updated to latest.

"4.3.2/4.7.1" you are referring to is drive unit firmware.

If you can't update just your switch firmware with E-Tube app you'll need to go to your LBS and ask them to do it via PC link

hi can somebody explain to me how how do i change the controller switch on my merida ebike the cables are running through the handlebar. I ve got the Shimanon E7000 and needs replacement, i ve tried but i dont want to pull out the cable to far

I am pretty sure you just unplug the cable from the display, and pull it back out through the bar? Not sure which bar the Merida uses, but on some of them the cable doubles back under the grips, do you may wan t to remove them

Can you take a picture of where the cable enters that bar and leaves the bar

Hello, ibhave remove the grip but the cable goes intobthe handlebar, how do you unplug the cable directly on he display, it looks like the cable is fixed to the display, i cannot see any videos online

you just pull it out, but grip it by the plug not the cable - there is a little tool for pulling them out which may have come with the bike, but you can just do it by hand.
