I'd have kept my dirtbike if it was truly streetable, like your 350. Riding a 300cc 2T on pavement ain't much fun. Areas to ride dirtbikes are getting fewer and farther between, unless you want to camp out in a cow pasture and zig-zag/hare scramble through tree lines. FWIW, FL has a ton of really cool dedicated MTB riding areas with some serious double black diamond single track and some really good elevation changes. Our eMTBs are welcome on all of them.

We are on the leading-bleeding edge of this technology and as a result we're involved in a lot of the ugly facets of the learning curve. With my 2T, I had enough spare parts or parts available within a couple hours drive to keep me going even if I nuked the motor. I didn't expect the exact same from Shimano but I did expect MUCH more resiliency from such a major manufacturer.

I believe Fezzari will do whatever is within their reach to get me back on the bike ASAP and I really hope it won't be 23 days... Expecting more info soon from them.

I’m in Cali so no plate for me! It’s a 350 sxf. Yeah sorry didn’t mean to imply riding not good or demanding in Florida... just not huge mountains and bike parks at elevation:) if someon lived at base of alps.. well at least there’s that.

my 350 has been flawless, it’s a 2012! If they can make these motors on Ktms that hit 13000 rpm and survive they should be able to make an ebike motor that will make it past 1000 miles! That’s just criminal.

Wishing you best on getting your bike sorted.

I also think that there appears to be much greater lead times with brands that use bespoke batteries rather than Shimano ones, this is because to diagnose a fault both the battery and the motor have to be diagnosed, if the bike uses a Shimano battery then you can just send everything to Madison, but if it uses a proprietary battery like Focus, Norco and YT, then the bike has to be sent back to them first to check the battery and cabling to rule out any issues with that.

That sounds logical but I have been told that just the motor on my Focus will have to go to Madison.
Rather not name my bike shop at the moment other than it is way up north.

My LBS are currently removing my E7000 motor and returning it to Madison. Wiggle have agreed to pay for LBS costs. Let's see how quick this gets turned around...

Hi all. Just joined the forum but have been following this thread with interest. I had exactly the same problem as the original poster with EO10 and WO13 errors on my e8000 Meta Power. Tried all the usual tricks with no joy, so ended up taking it to a localish e-bike specialist. They weren't able to diagnose the problem and have had to send the whole bike back to Madison. Bike has been with them two weeks now but haven't looked at it yet, so I'm interested to see how others are progressing.
In total it's been nearly 4 weeks without a working ebike so getting jittery ....

Same problem with my Focus, which was with the dealer but is now back in my garage.
Was told Madison will not look at it until new motors are available, which will probably not be until November.

Ah man, that's really rubbish! Sorry to hear that
I'm still hoping (probably naively) that it might be an easy fix (wiring / connections etc) and I won't need a new motor .....
Fingers crossed!!

Quick update - I've just had my bike back. Madison fitted a new motor so it looks like there's availability again.
Haven't given it a proper test yet - just a quick ride around an industrial estate but all seems to be working as it should. No real feedback about what the issue with my old motor was but I'll see if I can find out.
Incidentally the new motor has a two year warranty on it from today (rather than from the date of the original purchase). Thought I'd read something different on here but may have been in reference to Brose or another motor manufacturer.

Great to hear you got your bike back before for the winter sets in.
I know the feeling because my bike was returned to me last week also, after being away for 75 days, as written in my previous post I had a horrible experience dealing with CRC.
To be fair on Madison I don't think they're part in the proceedings took more than a few weeks.

You're right on your point that you read the warranty on the replacement motor was from the time of purchase of my bike. That is CRC's stance on the issue. Which is poor, because that would have left me with just a 4 months warranty.

However. I have since contacted Madison directly and they have agreed to give me a 2-year warranty on my new replacement motor which is the same result as you achieved, which is a major step forward in the battle on this Shimano steps issue.

They also say they are taking action to put out more spare parts and make the motors repairable with their uk-wide service centres.

They didn't offer me a refund on the cost for my local bike shop to do diagnostics. but they have offered me a complementary Madison jacket which is a nice gesture.

So happy E biking guys, remember that
E biking is in a development phase and with our constuctive technical feedback we can can push the suppliers and retailers to provide a better product and a better service.

Heard nothing from my LBS after they told me there were no motors available until November.
Think they might be feeding me a load of b.s.

Had always intended to buy a 'winter' bike as my Focus has quite a serious issue in cold weather.
Bought a low end Canyon, once again with a Shimano motor, and yesterday, with only 60 miles on the clock, the motor started making the most dreadful noise. It's been referred to on this forum as sounding like a bird chirping.

Think I might take up golf.

That's shocking two steps motors and both with issues

I can see why you've lost confidence and faith in the Shimano steps motor.

I feel the same way I don't trust them either

I also bought myself a backup bike which is a Canyon Torque, but it's a manual bike not an Ebike. . Sick bike. And in my opinion way better than golf

If I were you, that new Canyon you bought, I would send it back to them and ask for a refund or exchange for a regular bike.

Then email customercare@ madison.co.uk
Ask them if they can help.

WAY to GO FEZZARI...

They are sending me a new motor and a shipping label to send the dead DU8000 back to Shimano. The motor is only 6 bolts and 3 wires on my bike, so it only takes 20 minutes to R&R***. I'm STOKED Fezzari got involved with this, put it on a fast track and got it sorted for me in an acceptable amount of time.

***You do need to have specialty tools or a nearby shop who will R&R the lock ring. See attached snip from manual.

Just a note: The lock ring is righty-loosen, lefty-tighten...

I’ve joined the E010 club my e-Sommet gave up the ghost in the Alps at the beginning of August, it had a few wobbles before finally going tits up. CRC eventually picked it up after giving me the run around.
It’s been with them for over 5 weeks with no information from them despite me phoning emailing and live chatting them every couple of days. Just heard yesterday it’s off to Madison so hopefully things moving in the right direction.
Incredibly frustrating and the customer support has been deplorable. I’m sure buying components and clothing is fine (no it isn’t tried to buy a bolt kit for the esommet motor should be 6 bolts and they only sent one, twice, still waiting for the other four- I bought a frame on eBay and am building up another Esommet bought a motor from Holland, got tired of waiting for CRC)
I’d think twice about buying a bike from them especially an ebike.
Things do go wrong and I didn’t expect the bike to be perfect but the lack of interest and support has been shocking, I still don’t believe how poor the customer service has been.

Feel your pain Bro'

CRC shocking customer support, learnt my lesson .... AVOID.!!!

My E sommet was 52 days with them, total 75 days out of action.

If you get the chance, ask them to give you their reference number for your bike warranty with Madison. Will be WF ------ then six digits.

This will enable you to to direct to Madison in the future. [email protected]

All the best.

Looks like my 2018 sommet vr joined the E010 club yesterday, im going to try I get it dealt with via a local shop even if it costs me a bit more. As soon as I should the mechanic he said looks like the torque sensor has gone. Seems these shimano motors are dying at quite a rate from this thread.

Make sure the bike shop that you take it to is a Shimano Service Centre.

To give you some hope ... I am pretty sure the Shimano motor is good but the issue may well be in the bike build and cable routing. That's not to say you can't get a fault with the motor but after a spell to my local Shimano service Centre they have cracked the intermittent faults. They rebuilt the motor assembly and tidied up the cable routing and I an back in business. I did have the motor replaced and faults continued but since they rebuilt and tidied the cabling it's been faultless.

Hope that helps. ?

My Focus had its motor replaced and been ok so far but have only done 100 miles with it. Last motor lasted 1800 miles.
I'm just hoping there was a dodgy batch.

My Esommet as succumbed to the dreaded EO10 error code, bike is with my LBS who hopefully will pbe able to deal directly with Madison, owner of the shop did say that the current version of the etube software is hopeless at diagnosing faults and that Shimano are bringing out an updated version with better functionality when it comes to diagnostics.

Just been told I have had the motor replaced ready to pick up tomorrow from LBS, gave up trying to deal with CRC rather pay my LBS to deal with it.

Does this mean I have another 2 years warranty?

I've heard differing statements on this. I'd ask your LBS for confirmation. I'd email them, or otherwise try to get it in writing, just in case.

I'll reach out to my Shimano rep for a statement on this too.

Anyone know of a good Shimano service centre in SW of UK who may help out with this? Same w013 ans e010 issue?
I know I can sent it to CRC but don’t want to lose bike for months.

Any decent LBS with a Madison account (uk Shimano importer) should be able to do it for you

To add to what R120 suggested, just check that the shop has experience with shimano ebikes, some don't. You want an experienced one as that'll reduce your downtime.

LBS (ride on in Rawtenstall) sorted my Esommet with Madison without me having to go through hassle of dealing with CRC
