Long-range Shimano EP801-powered electric hardtail with 630Wh battery

The Orbea Urrun 2025 is the Spanish brand's properly-geometried aluminium hardtail eMTB, built around the Shimano EP6 motor (DU-EP600, 85 Nm, 250 W rated, 500 W peak, 3.0 kg) and an integrated 630 Wh Orbea RS battery. Travel is 120 mm at the fork only. Head angle is a properly slack 64.0° (slacker than most hardtail eMTBs which sit at 66°+), claimed weight 19.6 kg, and UK base price is just £2,799. The community verdict is positive on the bike's modern geometry and Orbea's MyO custom-build configurator — although note higher trims use Shimano's EP801-RS, an Orbea-exclusive reduced-power version of the EP801 that @Backflip identifies via "blue RS sticker on right motor cover".
Drive system and range. The Shimano EP6 (DU-EP600) is Shimano's mid-tier mountain motor — 85 Nm of torque matching the EP801 figure but with 500 W peak rather than 600 W. The unit shares quiet operation and E-Tube Project app integration with the EP801. @dellyend1 notes the entry-level Shimano SC-E5000 control unit "does not have Bluetooth connectivity" — a step back from higher Shimano displays. The 630 Wh integrated battery is generously sized for a sub-£3,000 hardtail; expect 1,400-1,800 m of climbing per charge in trail conditions, helped by efficient hardtail kinematics. The pack is non-removable, which complicates off-bike charging and winter storage.
Geometry and handling. A 64.0° head angle on a hardtail is genuinely radical for the segment and signals Orbea's intent: this is a proper trail hardtail, not a fire-road tourer. Reach progresses S 440 mm, M 465 mm, L 490 mm, XL 515 mm — generous modern numbers with a 25 mm jump between sizes. Chainstay length is a long 458 mm, which keeps the bike planted on climbs and stable at speed. Wheelbase opens 1,260-1,335 mm — properly stretched out figures. 29in wheels front and rear. The geometry sets the Urrun apart from rivals like the Giant Fathom E+ (66°), making it more capable on technical singletrack than typical e-hardtails.
Build and value. The Urrun base at £2,799 is a value standout. Higher trims through Orbea's MyO configurator let buyers upgrade to RockShox or Fox suspension, Shimano XT/SLX drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes and various wheel/tyre combinations. @markloch confirms the stock spec runs "Maxxis Rekon 2.40" 120 TPI 3C MaxxTerra Exo+ TLR tyres on front and rear" — a notably premium tyre choice for an entry hardtail. Higher trims with the EP801-RS get full Bluetooth, full Di2 compatibility (with caveats) and over-the-air firmware updates via the Shimano E-Tube app.
Community-verified strengths. @Plaache upgraded from a budget hardtail to the Urrun for daily city and woodland use and reports satisfaction with the platform. The slack 64° head angle and long reach numbers receive consistent praise for making the Urrun genuinely capable on bridleway and singletrack — more so than rivals at the price. Orbea's MyO custom-build configurator allows riders to spec the bike with paint, components and accessories within budget.
Caveats and known gripes. The Orbea EP801-RS motor on higher trims is power-reduced compared to the standard EP801 — @Backflip documents this is an Orbea-exclusive variant. Di2 auto-shift configuration is a known headache: @Jon_boy reports "E903 error means abnormality due to different settings between units — occurs when adding Di2 derailleur without changing gear mode setting". @Astro66 rates auto-shift as "pretty useless" because "it cannot predict the terrain ahead, so shifts too late". Internal headset cable routing is unusual on a hardtail and adds maintenance complexity — @levity notes installing forks on Urrun is "more demanding" with multiple cables through the headset. Integrated battery limits flexibility.
Verdict. The Urrun is for the rider who wants a genuinely modern slack-geometry aluminium hardtail with a big 630 Wh battery, MyO custom-build options and Orbea's dealer network at £2,799. It is not for buyers chasing the latest 100+ Nm motors, riders who want a removable battery, or anyone put off by headset cable routing on a budget bike. Production status is current with the platform available through MyO across the European Orbea dealer network.
