trail eMTB

The Giant Stance E+ 2025 is Giant's value-focused trail eMTB, an aluminium single-pivot FlexPoint chassis aimed at first-time eMTB buyers and shorter-distance trail commuters. Headline numbers: 150 mm front and 140 mm rear travel, a SyncDrive Sport 2 (Yamaha PW-S2) motor with 75 Nm of torque, 25 kg claimed weight, 65.5 degree head angle, reach from 400 to 470 mm across four sizes (XS, S, M, L) including the smallest size in the segment, and £3,499 for the Stance E+ 2 trim. The community verdict is that this is the budget bike to buy if you can stand the cheap-and-cheerful Suntour suspension out of the box, because the chassis itself accepts proper Fox 34 and DPS suspension upgrades that totally transform the ride.
Drive system and range. The SyncDrive Sport 2 (Yamaha PW-S2) motor delivers 75 Nm, which @Kiwi Giant measured as 7% more than the older PW-ST and at 2.85 kg around 0.55 kg lighter. Real-world range on the 625 Wh EnergyPak Smart pack (current generation matches the trim sheet) sits in the 30 to 45 mile bracket depending on assistance level and terrain, with the EnergyPak Plus range extender bottle available for big-day riders. The Yamaha system is well-established and dealer-supported through Giant's wide global network, though it lacks the OTA polish of Bosch Flow App or DJI Avinox.
Geometry and handling. The 65.5 degree head angle is steeper than modern trail norm, biased toward agile climbing and tight singletrack rather than steep-descent composure. Reach progresses 400, 415, 445 and 470 mm across XS to L, with a fixed 435 mm chainstay and wheelbase scaling 1145 to 1226 mm. The XS reach of 400 mm and 1145 mm wheelbase make this one of the few eMTBs that genuinely fits shorter riders out of the box, an important point for partners-and-families buyers. The 140 mm rear travel via FlexPoint is conservative but predictable.
Build and value. Single £3,499 trim listed in current gold (Stance E+ 2 in Giant's nomenclature). Stock build is the SR Suntour XCR 34 LO-R 140 mm fork with tapered steerer and 110x15 thru-axle, the SR Suntour Raidon R 190x45 mm shock and a generally entry-level finishing kit. @Kiwi Giant describes the Suntour shock as "pretty cheap and nasty", with the older Stance using a better RockShox Monarch R. Standout is the price-per-motor on a Yamaha eMTB with a fully integrated battery. Questionable is the suspension out of the box, but it is also the bike's biggest upgrade opportunity.
Community-verified strengths. First, the chassis genuinely supports proper suspension upgrades: @sdrider swapped to a Fox 34 Factory Grip X 140 mm fork (saving 840 g) and a Fox Float DPS Factory shock, transforming the bike. @FL-Roadrunner went bigger still on a 2021, fitting a 160 mm Fox 36 E-optimised Factory. Second, the bike is genuinely fittable for smaller riders, with proper XS sizing. Third, basic service jobs are accessible: @anfos notes that to change the rear brake cable on the Stance E+ 2, "only the motor cover needs to be removed, not the motor itself", which is rare on integrated eMTBs.
Caveats and known gripes. Suspension upgrade cost is the elephant in the room: @petro1head's thread asking for fork and shock suggestions ran long because nobody recommends keeping the Suntour. Dropper post fitment is fiddly: @sdrider notes a PNW Loam 120 mm cable run requires dropping the motor to route below it. @RustyMTB warns that some Stance E+ hubs use cup-and-cone bearings rather than sealed cartridge, which become uneconomic to rebuild if the cup wears.
Verdict. The Stance E+ is in current production and is Giant's entry-level trail eMTB at £3,499. Buy it if you want a Yamaha-powered, dealer-supported full-suspension eMTB at the lowest sensible price, you have realistic expectations about the stock suspension and you are willing to upgrade fork and shock over time. Look elsewhere if you need a slack 64 degree head angle, a 160 mm-plus chassis or premium suspension out of the box.
