EMTB Forums verdict

The all-new 2023 Reign E+ is Giant's purebred full-power enduro eMTB, ditching the old freeride numbers for a longer, slacker, race-bred chassis. It pairs 160mm of Maestro rear travel and a 170mm fork with a mullet (29in front, 27.5in rear) wheel setup, and a flip-chip lets you tweak the head and seat angles by roughly 0.8 degrees plus 10mm of bottom-bracket height.

Power comes from Giant's own SyncDrive Pro2 motor (85Nm, Yamaha-derived) fed by a downtube-integrated EnergyPak Smart 800Wh battery, with a range extender option on M and up. Three aluminium trims spanned the range: the AXS-equipped E+ 1 with Fox 38 and Float X2, the SLX-built E+ 2 with a RockShox ZEB, and the value E+ 3 on a Domain and Shimano Deore.

Now discontinued (the line carried into 2024 with revised pricing), it remains a long-travel, planted descender that rewards aggressive riding. UK RRPs at launch were 6,999 for the E+ 1, 5,499 for the E+ 2 and 4,999 for the E+ 3.

What the numbers mean on the trail

Computed from this bike's geometry, spec and build kit — reach, wheelbase, chainstay, head and seat angles, travel, motor, weight and the fork/tyre/brake spec — and worked out per size, because a fixed chainstay can make an S and an XL feel very different.

Size
Setting
Descending
93

Slack 63.7° head angle, 160mm travel and a long 1265mm wheelbase — composed in the chunk, confident when it gets steep, and stable through fast corners.

Playfulness
32

More planted than poppy — better on steep terrain than tight, fiddly singletrack.

Size balance
98

Rear-long with a planted front in L (FC:RC 1.79) — easy to weight the front and quick to turn, though it can feel light at the back at real speed.

Technical climbing
72

Giant SyncDrive Pro2 and a steep 76.7° seat angle keep the weight planted over the front — a proper winch. 250W of peak power and 85Nm of torque — a strong full-power motor.

Best suited toFast, steep, rough tracks — and riders who want maximum composure.

Rewards commitment; it should feel calmer as the speed rises.

Watch out forNot a flickable, playful bike at 25.5kg — built to plough, not pop.

Brilliant on fast, rough, steep terrain; less fun on tight, mellow trails.

⚙️ Adjustable geometry: this frame has a high/low setting — low drops the BB and slackens the head angle for more descending stability; high lifts the BB and steepens slightly for clearance and a perkier, more playful feel.
Computed from geometry + spec, not a paid review. Scores are guidance, not gospel.
