Bontrager has a decent pair winter riding boots. I’ve used mine for 3 + years. I use spd mounted pedals with them but with a filler they can be used as flats.
Warnings; kinda expensive.

Hi all looking for a new pair of flat winter boots any recommendations.
I've had these Columbia boots for about 3 months and they have been great for me.
I was suffering with cold toes and after a lot of internet searching, these came recommended by another MTB site.
Plenty of grip, waterproof and with a foil type liner.
Around £80 is what I paid from Amazon. Coupled with some merino wool socks, they are lovely and warm.
Go up a size though.

I don’t think that either Bontrager or Shimano can claim that their riding boots are waterproof …probably water-resistant.
The Bontrager winter boots are good for very cold weather. The Shimano boots are my most used for wet conditions.
Booth use the Boa lace-system.

I've got the Shimano ones without boa - they are like boats on me; to get the width they need to be long - I don't feel very secure in them off road

Also wear Shimano GF800GTX, not totally waterproof due to fabric gaiter. However, they keep my feet warmer and drier than normal flats for wet riding I do. If its actually raining, more than a mist... I just expect to be totally wet eventually, so long as I say warm. Either I sweat from the inside or get wet from the outside.

I agree. My first pair(Shimano )were too narrow and probably a size too small.
My next pair were wider and one size larger. I really like the Boa lacing. They don’t feel too large …considering the weather I use them in.

How can the boots be waterproof when they have a huge hole in the top? For many years now I buy a size larger in boots and wear Sealskinz waterproof socks or reasonable facsimilie. Now and then the boots get soaked through, but my feet remain dry inside the waterproof socks.
Sealskinz have a feature called "Hydrostop" which is 3 rows of tacky material inside the top of the sock. It works really well.

I use gaitors for the bit inbetween boots and trousers. Works well.

Wear Five Ten Primaloft (Mid) boots in winter (don't think they're made any more). If it's really wet also wear Vaude Black SE Short gaiters as recommended by @Rob Rides EMTB They are fugly but work perfectly. When worn out buy more in summer when nobody wants them. :)

Ive tried everything. I have almost 10 pairs of riding shoes in my garage right now. The only RIDING specific boot Ive found that keep my feet dry and warm are 45North Wolvhammers. There are a ton of versions over the years but they just work. I ride year around no matter the weather.

The DO look terrible, but the only thing that actually works!

I don’t know what attracts me to snow conditions? The challenge? The quietness? 🤷🏼‍♂️
My winter wardrobe saw very little use this year. Wet snow and too much rain. I think I only rode two days in the snow …and one of those days was not good. 😕
-2 degrees C was the best we could do.

Ah, the memories.…

Vaude AM Moab Mid winter STX
I have these as well and while I'm not cold in them, they aren't the most comfortable. They tend to poke at my ankles (from inside) sometimes. Also the top is very bulky. Not sure if I would choose them again.

Interesting... I really like them and going on my second season with them. Much better than the expedition style boots, like from 45NRTH (Wolvhammer). Granted, for truly frigid weather it may be the only good option.

I ride the Vaudes down to 5-10 F, which is about as cold as it gets around me. Two layers, thin poly and thick wool ski sock. I keep chemical warmers with me, if my toes get too cold, but haven't need them yet.

The "top" you mean the ankle gaiter? Depending on the pants I'm wearing, either they go in (thinner trail pant) or over (fleeced winter pant with ankle zipper) the gaiter.

Hi all looking for a new pair of flat winter boots any recommendations.
Definitely consider Endura MT500,( true to size and easy to get on & off) That's what I use at the moment, but I've owned load of so called waterproof shoes/boots, some goretex some own brand wp membrane......they all fail in my opinion and to this point I always back my mtb footwear with a waterproof sock and when that don't work, just wear good old Wellie boots.

Someone already mentioned 45NRTH. I've Wölvhammers and Ragnaröks. Depends how you define winter, what is good and what not. In Finland I used Wölvhammers regularly (not only cycling but also skiing) but after moving to Austria I haven't worn them in years. Ragnaröks are more than enough here.

So yeah, 45NRTH for the win.

Leatt are crap I had a pair. I swear by leather work or walking boots, but need to be low cut at back for me,add a pair of gaiters take a lot to beat that set up. If it's not a serious technical ride but you have to get out wellies take a lot of beating.

I win for heaviest boot. The only thing missing on these boots is the spots to install studs for ice. They used to have the studs holes on previous versions.

Winter riding is awesome. 45North boots help keep the feet warm. Sometimes I have to wear goretex socks for extra warmth.
