Coming off 4 seasons on a Levo SL, and looking for a replacement. I'm 5'9" 160 lbs, an old guy with 40 years MTB experience. I am NOT an aggressive rider, NOT looking for a shuttle bike, but rather tend towards 3-hour backcountry rides, built/flow trails, long climbs to a view AND having FUN getting back down!

Who makes an SL Trail/All-Mountain bike that meets the following criteria?

Carbon frame
Mullet wheels
Sub 45 lb weight
150-160 front / 140-150 rear
400-600 Wh battery (light weight)
50-100 Nm torque (I DON'T need 130 Nm!)
Bosch, TQ, Avinox motor (NO Shimano or Fauza)
Mid-level Sram/Shimano build kit (electronic shifting would be sweet but not required)
***NOT an overly stiff or aggressive frame, but FUN and FORGIVING to ride***
Sub $10K USD price
Available in the US

Some bikes that I'm considering:

Pivot Shuttle AMP'D
Pivot Shuttle SL-AM (This bike looks really interesting, but concerned about lack of motor power and battery life)
Transition Regulator
Yeti MTE
Propain Sresh LT
Orbea Rise LT
Revel Rerun
Amflow PX

What should I rule out and WHY?

What should be on my list but isn't and WHY?

Thanks!

I was in a somewhat similar situation, tried to buy a new levo sl sworks, dealer wasn’t able to get it (in Europe). I tried the Trek ex+ with the tq 60 motor (great motor!) but the geometry was not right for me. After trying the new Amflow, I ordered the px pro. I don’t need the power, however now I will try to ride technical uphills which I previously couldn’t (I could do more technical uphills with my 9kg bio hardtail). This was not an easy decision as the Levo SL2 was so great, however while so much has been improved with electric bikes over the last few years, the SL hasn’t. What killed it for me wasn’t the Lack of power, it was the battery. 320wh is just a joke at this point. I did 1-2.000 m in altitude including the range extender, but it just took so long and doing a third or fourth round of the flow trail wasn’t possible,…looking forward to the new bike, but I‘ll still miss my Levot…

To Start the Amp'd, the MTE & the reulator CX don't weigh less than 45lbs.

Why not a Trek Fuel+ MX ? Its 160/150, under 45lbs, is mullet, 580wh battery, New TQ HPR60 and I'm sure you could get one for under $10k USD

On the Pivot Sl AM, I wouldn't worry about power the Bosch SX is a beast and will easily do 600w max with 400% support its a mini Gen 4 CX.

I considered several of the bikes on your list and ended up with Pivot Shuttle SL/AM (29") and Transition Regulator SX (mullet). Both are very capable and fun, suspensions are plush and forgiving, the Bosch SX provides ample power, and, with some modifications, weigh approximately 41 lb (with pedals). I demo'ed the Yeti MTe, but the HPR60 was clearly underpowered. I'm still tempted by the Revel ReRun, and will keep it in mind if I start riding trails or lines where I'm repeatedly bottoming out.

Any issues with battery life on the SL/AM? 400 Wh seems like weak sauce compared to other offerings? I can't complete a 2-hour ride on my Levo SL with adding a hefty range extender.

My routine rides along the Front Range are just under 30 miles/1000ft elevation gain, and I've never depleted the CompactTube. As the motor provides great support (especially at cadence > 90), I use the 2 lowest settings 98.6% of the miles, according to the FLOW app. For my every day rides, the Bosch SX provides near optimal power and range for its weight. I did purchase the PowerMore extender for a couple of trips this summer when I'll be trying more elevation in Eagle and Summit County.

how is the motor rattle on the sx? I also live on front range and have a 2024 rise h30 with ep6 that does rattle while coasting but does not bother me.

Norco Sight VLT TQ checks a lot of boxes. Bosch SX I believe will be updated soon because of coasting clatter and range

I bought both bikes last year, and have not noticed noise above tire impact going over rocks or the tractor tracks on dirt roads; certainly nothing bothersome. For 6 months, I was also riding a Santa Cruz Heckler SL with the Fazua 60, and didn't hear any significant difference between that and the Bosch SX bikes.

I have a Rise LT and it's an awesome bike, but it has a Shimano EP801 motor which you've said you're not interested in, and it's also full 29". A shame, as it ticks all your boxes otherwise.

I have an Ari Nebo with the Fazua motor with a 430wh battery (42 pounds with pedals and tool kit under seat + the EDC tool in the fork). You don't want Fazua, and that's fine. This is just for comparison.

I'm 73 and ride in the Wasatch (Utah, USA) so the climbs start at around 7000'. I expect I'd get better mileage and climb numbers if I was biking at sea level, but up here, I can pretty easily get 35 miles and 4500' of climbing out of that small battery. My only point being that range for that size battery isn't a big problem unless you're always in max power modes. Being in the Tahoe City area, I expect you're like me in that regard. I have the power set pretty low, though.
Generally, I'm in "Breeze' with it set to give me 120w one-to-one as I apply 120w with low launch.

The AM-SL you're looking at has 55nm and good power support - more than the Fazua I have, I think.

Don't rule out high power motors. Something like an Avinox is extremely tunable and it's so small and light that you're not paying a weight penalty for it, and you can run it at very low power settings which probably help with motor life. Plus, for us seasoned citizens, these newer motor systems have a heart rate interface, which can be pretty handy. I think Bosch is also moving in that direction, so you may want to consider that.

Maybe outside your price range but the Trek Fuel+ MX with XT Di2 might fit the bill at $10.7k.

Well reviewed. TQ HPR60, quiet, good range with 580wh battery, sub 44lbs (medium) with a burley build. Is there a particular reason to ask for an mullet wheelset? Based on your "NOT looking for a shuttle bike, but rather tend towards 3-hour backcountry rides" comment I would think the 29er EX+ would be better.
