I’ve got my Levos and Scott 930 bikes chipped for the family , so we can do 28 mph if required. we ride as you much described. Do these avinox bikes come with this power set up as standard? Great fun On these bikes,

On the Pivot Shuttle AMP’d sold in the US you can scroll to the Settings page and set the speed limit to 20 or 28 mph. If you select 28 mph the screen displays a warning that this changes the bike from Class 1 to Class 3 and asks you to confirm your choice. When the bike is turned off the max assist speed returns to the default 20 mph Class 1 setting. Clever.

I dont mind as much power as possible, I normally use the ECO mode on my bosch but on some very steep climbs even at 100Nm Im at my max fitness and max pulse trying to get up so gimme gimme gimme.

M1 power and refinement, in a soda-can format/size, with an ultra slim battery ? Insta buy !

and to reply to the biased question, i'd say power (M1 is enough, imho) is a safety tool, as long as we are speed limited.
Goin from a levo gen3 to an amflow, climbing black trails is more fun, allow more technical work / variation. And the generous torque secures failed attempts (i.e. no injury)

Who actually wants more than the traditional full power 85nm e-bike.

I dont need more. I miss the days when pretty much all full power e's were very similar power. We could go on group e rides and every one had a similar amount of grunt and when it came to a challenge like riding up a tech section then whoever cleaned that section was the better rider on the day. Now full power e's are wildy different and nz with different top speeds too. Now its not who cleaned that section best due to skill but who turned up on the most powerful bike...

I'm happy with 85NM /600 watts if I had a battery that'll keep up..... give me some extra range (I'm on a 630w battery), but I'll gladly take 100NM+ and 750w+ and a battery that'll offer more range. Seems to me it's the motor manufacturers offering more NM and watts that's pushing the battery tech forward. I want 100 mile epic adventures with an overnight stop......on one battery (or bat plus range extender), but maybe that's just me. Sure, the latest buzzwords since Amflow launched a year or so back was rapid charging in an hour, sounds bloody brilliant, but where are the network of charging points....oh that's right, they don't exist, except maybe, at a bike park, then errrm what's the bloody point?

I'm in the market for my first e-bike, and there are half price bikes around with the shimano ep801 unit. Or for about a 50% premium I could get a Bosch Gen 5 equipped bike (M2S is out of price range right now). Would I regret buying an ep801 bike in 2026?

Yes the Amp’d is available in the UK, but it runs different software which restricts you to 15mph. They still feel comically fast.

To be honest I never tried an ebike other than my Trek Powerfly 85 Nm / 25 kmh max. So, I can't say how actually feels riding a more powerful e-MTB. Probably is really amazing! And that's why I voted option 2.

However, if I wanted a lot of power without the burden of insurance, plate, license, etc. I would practice enduro motorbike, or motocross, not e-MTB.

I only weight 75 kg. But around me, many heavier buddies (90-100 kg) who went from levo gen3 or bosch CX gen 4 to some avinox ebikes, are more than happy.

I'm around 95kg and bought a EP801 equipped Rise LT in January. Couldn't be happier, although I mostly ride solo. Might be a different story if I had a bunch on Amflow/Bosch Gen 5 mates.

The whole discussion of ..oh, no one needs 150Nm/1500w is disproven by the market. If only a small percentage of riders want/need that much power...why then are almost all manufacturers racing to add Avinox motors?

If there is no weight penalty for the extra power....why wouldn't you want it available ? The whole notion that having 1500 watts is some kind of tipping point that once breached will bring down the force of government upon the industry is rubbish. How can the government know that 1500w bikes are creating some unspecified problems? Is there some organised group of people complaining, or is this whole discussion preemptive?

If the silly speed limits remain, as if you can't be a menase to other trail users on ANY bike (with or without a motor), having 250-500-1500w makes no difference. Just because you can climb a hill 5 mph faster with more power doesn't make you a more irresponsible trail user.

I reject the idea that power/speed limits should be enacted to protect against the (supposed) abuses of the least skilled & least responsible riders forcing the rest of us to suffer because of their behavior.

Same here. Trail etiquette is something that needs to be shared & shared. If we are to be the example to the rest of trail users, then let's make it a good example. Dismount from horses, slow & give ample time for others to react to your hail & approach, help others with technical or mechanical problems... in essence, don't be a top grade a-hole who doesn't care about anyone but themselves.
