After 40 or more fires caused by Lithium Batteries, Western Australia are issuing a "critical" warning to the public, link here from ABC Australia

"Make sure you get the manufacturer's charger that comes with that device," Commissioner Gary Newcombe said.

"Do not leave devices charging overnight, particularly in the house or the garage."

Mr Newcombe said the batteries should be charged outside, away from flammable items and not in direct sunlight as they can overheat.

Ï would say it's up to manufacturers and local country regulations to require such quality that user can trust the product to be safe.

if you buy an aftermarket charger that permits you to see the % of charge then be sure you buy one from a known quality fabricator. You should be able to use it without fear - except for damage to your wallet.

But yeah, charge lithium batteries outside.
If you have no outside location to store the batteries you can buy a heavy duty steel box for storage indoors.

BTW, my EMTB's dual batteries are made by SAMSUNG, which I have heard makes very reliable li-ion batteries.
(fingers crossed)
