I have a 2020 (Dec) Rail 5 625 XL which has Rockshox 35 Gold RL Debonair motion control forks (160 travel) and Rockshox Deluxe (RL) select + rear shock 230 x 57.5.

Looking for a more plush ride (better small bump compliance?) and to start, upgrade the rear shock. Bought a new Fox Float X at a really good price but can't yet tell if the air can will clear the frame at full compression. I suspect maybe not (jn which case will sell on). The fitted standard shock has no aircan. So my questions are: what would fit? No coils please, too expensive and what would improve my ride? Also, can I increase the stroke to 60, 62.5 or 65 to give me a bit more travel (currently 150).

Leaving the forks at the moment as thats a bigger investment.

Thanks!

Could fit a Megneg on the shock, makes big improvement to ride.

If a Trutune fits the forks* that would also improve ride.

Edit * Trutune website says that it will.

Here at the shop we have a Deluxe and Float X with EVOL can on it. Max outside diameter is the same at around 52mm. The widest part of the Float X is about the mid point of the shock, whereas the Deluxe is widest at the eyelet. Looking at a picture of the bike- the widest portion on the Fox is going to be close to the belly on the seattube. I would definitly give it a try- much better shock. If you do not have the low speed comp adjuster on the Float-get one installed.

as to overstroking, I run 65mm stroke on my Rail5 and the only issue is bb hight on compression being lower with the longer stroke (obvious I know 🤭 )

depends on what version Fox Float X it is?

some dampers have external reservoirs and these can clash with the frame / downtube

and in it I posted trial-fit of an x2 in 230x62.5...

wasn't using full stroke before clashing - might give an idea (y)
